Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
for real, but from the looks emory seems to be a short app (last year's thread) and i kinda like that they gave us a a couple months to not obsess about their interview

I had warm Jose Especial all last night. It wasn't bad, haha. And I don't consider it expensive at $18 a bottle.

Yeah, I don't mind warm tequila either. Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever had cold tequila...

So who's up next? Who has the next interview in this thread? My earliest is 9/3.

Just say Go Blue!, mention the word 'maize', and comment on how Rodriguez will definitely turn things around this year and you'll get in - guaranteed.

 Lots of people have mentioned how zealous they are about promoting their school image... maybe I should wear a blue tie to the interview. 😎

What would happen if you wore a scarlet and gray tie?
You would be mauled by a pack of angry wolverines.
Ha, see what I did there?
I'm actually attempting to go somewhat school-color based as far as shirt and tie. As long as I don't have to buy any more - I'm working with what I have in my closet.

How bright of a tie can you wear before it's too much?

Don't know. I guess it depends on the shirt you wear it with and how shiny the tie is. One of my ties is kind of shiny, hope it's not too shiny. Don't go with lime green or hot pink.
I might pick up a purple tie if LSU talks to me.

I love my purple tie... not applying to LSU though. I can't do the south. 😛

Im at Mich on 8/28 as well. I haven't really done anything to prepare yet:scared:. You have any ideas Stein?

Haven't done much either, just going to look over my application and secondary to make sure I remember everything I wrote down.

I won't be at school until September so I can't do any sort of formal practice interview before I go... I'm just going to be myself and we'll see what happens.

im going seersucker suit if i get any SEC interviews

That's what I've been thinking too. I'm going to read about the school, read my own app again, and try to be genuine. Good luck:luck:

Good luck to you too! :luck::luck:

There should be some kind of discreet SDN pin that we could wear on our suit pockets so we could spot fellow SDNers at interviews. 😎

Some dude at Vandy had a white and hot pink tie. I still think he's looked professional. I was the only one in a non-dark color. Surprise surprise.

Best way to go. 🙂

How was Vandy?

Vandy was so awesome! 😀

the question of health care is pretty complex. i might have to just keep it short and say something ridiculously general like "well i think we need to focus on information technology" (like who doesn't)

I'm just afraid of it getting political... it's hard to talk about our opinions on the future of health care while completely sidestepping politics. Anybody have any thoughts? Maybe just generalize it to what we would theoretically want to see in a health care system? Too many details and you could potentially sink yourself on this one...

yea man. the thing is the economic issue of healthcare is pretty important. the target of the gov't is to not only go for a universal coverage but to cut costs over time. thats pretty tough to do, esp if you wanna keep the quality of care. how do you cut physician salary if you have such a shortage?

for me, i have to focus on tax/capitalism/government involvement aspect of it and what not. but i know that if an interviewer is a PhD then they will most likely be very liberal and will have the mentality that healthcare is an absolute right and that medication shouldn't even come up in TV commercials and whatnot

its a tough call but i'm just gonna talk about how i can have a positive role in it

I would say emphasizing your own role in it as a future physician would be the best way to go, since they know we're not going to go out there and write health care policy any time soon. 🙄

I'm going to focus on patient empathy and experiences I've had shadowing physicians where the doctor told me after the encounter that there was a medication they would have liked to prescribe but couldn't because of the prohibitive cost. Depending on how brave I get I may mention how we are already rationing healthcare based on cost, and that a government solution may be the only way to reign in powerful insurance companies who are taking advantage of patients in their moment of weakness. Denial of service based on pre-existing conditions and dropping coverage on an insurance company's whim is unacceptable, and we can do much better.

Just can't go into details on the bill or the messy politics of it all or I could get burned... will make sure to watch my mouth.

Blue, you know the Therma Base jacket that says San Francisco on the front? Have you happened to see that in gray? I think I have but I might be playing tricks on myself.

I only seen them in black. Maybe it's out there though.
