yeah, i think that's how i'd do it.
 
zerial, I'd go for the early slot -- just take this weekend and prep like mad for all your interviews -- that way you'll have crip sheets for every school to review the night before.

I just spent an hour looking all over the building for a meeting I was supposed to go to -- my client had based this meeting on 5 documents, 4 of which I'd made in the past week -- we were presenting them to a bunch of big-wigs who work with my project manager...

the meeting invite doesn't stipulate a meeting room -- client says she'll come get me and we'll head over together...nope, that never happened. She told the folks in the room that I was "busy" -- I was busy looking for the ************ room!!! 😡

I've heard through the grape vine that she was challenged on MY data, and rather than ask me to be there, she assumes I screwed up. My PM just emailed me and I explained the whole data set. He's forwarded my explanations on to the rest of the execs, but I think the damage to my reputation has already been done 🙁

Anyone else feel like there hasn't been enough news lately?

I mean, I've been slammed with info from schools until just about two weeks ago, both good news and bad, and then suddenly nothing.

I've heard from 1/2 of the schools that I applied to and just wonder what the heck is going on with the others?!?!?

job interview next week!

weird this is - I don't know the PI, but he's in the same building as I am now. But the person who emailed me (not the PI) works on the same floor as me, and I see her in the lab meetings...and I thought she was in my dep't. weird...

I thought about starting cross fit a while back, but ended up passing on it, because I felt like I was wasting my gym membership.

Cross fit is awesome though, but people new to it need to be very careful about their form or they can really hurt themselves.
 
actually, i've been seeing a lot in the last 2 weeks. but i took my time with my secondaries (1-2 week turnaround time). mostly complete in mid july to mid/late august

So, what are you going to tell them about Med school? I'm currently applying for some PRA/study coordinator positions as well and am not really sure how I want to go about this. I was thinking of just telling them that there is a possibility I will start med school in the fall, but probably not until 2011, based on the number of schools I've applied to and the number of individuals who have to apply to med school a second time. That way, if I start in the fall of 2010 I don't have to feel bad leaving, but it also makes it more likely that they'll want to take you on and train you. What are your thoughts on this?

I am going to try to play it down as much as I can. There was one job looking for a one year only position, but that was taken too fast. My mother tells me I have no obligation to tell them in advance that I will leave - that's just how the job market goes. People expect some of their employees to leave sometimes, it just happens. But if they ask me, yes I will certainly tell them.

How many schools have you completed? I don't know if I would recommend telling them you might get in this year but probably not - I know that it's true, many people to apply multiple times - but at an interview might not be a good point to bring up that you don't think these other schools will accept you. Get what I'm saying? I don't really know, maybe they wouldn't care. But personally I would either tell them I'm applying this year, or not.

Nah, I hear you. It makes sense. I wouldn't downplay my application chances, but I would rather just educate about the process. My previous career was in sales, so I think I could sell that without making myself look bad or unqualified for med school. I agree with your mom though, we have no obligation to tell them. I won't be telling any other company I'm applying to that I'm even applying to med school. I talked to a VP of marketing yesterday when I was setting up an interview and told him that I have all that research exp. and sales gap because I was considering medicine in the past, but now I'm ready to get back into sales... etc. I don't want to say this type of stuff to researchers though, because I don't want to leave them hanging in the middle of their research project and most projects require a 2-year contract. Sure you can break it, but that just pisses future colleagues off. In sales, I don't care. I owe them nothing and I'm just as expendable to them as they are to me. I guess it's a perspective thing. Still not sure what I'm going to say though. Good luck on your interview. You'll have to let me know what pitch you decide to go with.
 
yeah, i'm not sure. i feel like i'm going to mention it, it's obvious in my career goals, etc. and the person who I took over for in my current position actually started in november and left in june when I came - off to med school for him. and he really didn't know what he was doing either. haha. really his first research experience, and as soon as he sort of knew what was going on, he was done!

oh and also... what's up with all the people posting things like,"oh, i was complete july 20 and no interview invite yet, so i'm assuming rejection" in the school-specific threads? here's my opinion:

1. they are misinformed, and really annoying about it
2. they are informed but fishing for compliments-- "no way, you won't be rejected, you're so awesome, that II is coming soon!"
3. i am crazy and should actually be expecting rejections from half of my schools because they have already started interviewing and didn't invite me yet.

i think i need to leave SDN for the day; it's slowly driving me insane

i agree, school specific threads are the ABSOLUTE worst. I met someone like that in my interview - they kept asking for where else we have heard from and why they did not hear back. like goddamn, fall back. too much thinking going on

No joke. Most people are like that on SDN. I'm slowly starting to think about not coming back anymore... It's so annoying and it's really not worth listening to these tool bags cry all the time. *present company excluded* 😉

lol. That's exactly my problem. My posting lags when it's summer/vacation, but school starts back up and I go back to inflating my post count.:laugh:

I do feel slightly bad about it since I'm supposed to be studying 6 hours a day or whatever:laugh:.
 
this thread and SOME of the school specific threads are the only ones i look at on SDN. I cant STAND all these neurotic premeds who reply on every other post confused to why the ADCOMs havent looked at THEIR application... like their s*** dont stink or whatever. I honestly cant believe some of the users on here

same dude...here is really the only place i go...i cant even stand some of the school threads now with the OMFG OMGOMGOMG the 1st interview invites went out but i didnt get one WTF IM SO AWESOME. If it werent for this thread, id prolly never come on sdn lol. im glad that sdn is the minority of people not majority.
