Congrats!! Interview invite on Labor Day? Geez.

Woohoo! Now you need to go pick out your lunch. I've heard they have good options!

thanks y'all!!! It was a complete surprise -- not just b/c it was on Labor Day. My stats are...not in their usual range...to use the euphemism of the year 🙄. Totally thought I was getting a rejection email.

gives me hope for the process in general 😀 😀

hey guys just wanted to get some quick advice but it is not important enough for a thread. A doctor told me I could shadow her tomorrow afternoon. I emailed her back to ask what time I should get there, but she never emailed me back. should I just show up? maybe around 1pm?

I would wait for the email until tomorrow morning, But if still no news, I would just show up.

Cool I don't want to make her mad. I guess if she seems surprised to see me I could just ask if there is a better time to come, make a real appointment and then leave...

one last rant before i head to sleep...

this hotel is the taunting me with those bottled waters in my room. they have those tags saying if i open it, its $5...so i try to go to the vending machine for a water, i only have $1.55, a water is $1.75. sooo. thirsty. FML.

hey guys, did any of you bring anything to your interview? like a notepad or carrying case sort of thing? do people do that?

A portfolio with a notebook, but I didn't take any notes.

I brought a notepad but I never wrote anything on it... make sure you have a pen. if you need a pen and don't have one you will feel like a tool. most schools give you pens and stuff though but just in case they don't i think you should bring one. So because you never know what you are going to get in an interviewer I always bring a copy of my app. They may have lost this ( i have had this happen for a job interview so who knows with med school). I think this may be helpful too if your interviewer is super anal and wants to know dates that you did things. I also write down the dates that I started new activities that are not on AMCAS in case they ask. I also bring copies of my resume just in case they ask for it. I also brought copies of my papers that I wrote for research in case they REALLY want to know a detail I can't remember. I just put it in a nice padfolio which also carries a nice looking pen. I write down any questions that I think of during the day about the school so I can make sure i get them answered. I just want to be super prepared but I am super crazy and I am sure I bring too much.

I was actually about to ask the same thing! I think I'll probably just bring a notepad and pen?

interesting...i never really thought to bring a copy of my app. and as far as papers go, i was told they won't want the papers bc if they are published they'll be in pubmed, but i guess it wouldnt hurt to bring them.

good stuff. thanks

I just brought a pen and one of those ~3X5 sized flip notebooks that I could fit in my pocket. Not sure if I ever actually wrote anything on it, maybe an email once or twice.

and here's another random question that I asked in the interview clothes thread but am still not too sure about-My suit top has one button and when I stand up the suit lies flat but when I sit down the bottom parts of the jackets kind of go out to the side. Is it acceptable to unbutton the button when I go to sit down for the interview or is that weird? I'm so clueless with these things😛

When the guy lost my app it was super weird. He had read it previously but just really wanted it as a crutch to ask questions from. I guess without it he kind of felt naked lol. anyways when I gave him a new one then he could control the interview and had something to write notes on. This also made me feel a lot less nervous because he botched it not me! 🙂

Yeah i wouldn't give them my papers just for my reference. I know some places they match you up with someone who does similar research so they may be really interested in the details. Some of my research I did three years ago so I think they would understand if I didn't remember the name of a certain drug and if they were sufficiently interested would allow me to quickly look it up. I think that most interviewers just want a quick run through in less technical terms though.

i bring a black portfolio with an attached notepad.

i never write anything on it but sometimes they give folders or whatever that i can put it on. plus i approach the interviews like job interviews, bring my resume, publication, abstract, etc. now i dont give them out randomly but if the situation asks for it, i pull it out quickly. kinda like how i do it with women

Yeah, good question. Who knows about suit etiquette rules?

Hey Y'all, I recently graduated and I was looking for a job in a hospital environment. Just in case I get an interview and they ask me what I'm currently doing. Anyway, I just got a job as an Insurance Coordinator in an Optometry Clinic. Is that going to be good or bad towards my Image? or should I find something a bit more clinical?

I don't think you can be too picky with the job market like it is. It's definitely not gonna look bad that you are working. They don't expect us all to have clinical jobs. That is, after all, why we're going to med school (to be able to get awesome clinical jobs). Just take the job.

Agree with this.
