You wanna get there by 10:45. Then you go on the interview, 45-60 minutes, then the tour and the lunch. Then it's over.

guacomole in it?

nah. i like my guacamole separate, not in my burritos. i'm weird like that.

Just done with Downstate interview. I love this place!!😍

yay! new york FTW!!

oh MAN my experience was so different! i had been rescheduled from 11am to 3:30pm because my interviewer had a family emergency. the dr who ended up interviewing me was an ophthalmologist and was in a lecture about eyeball pathology until almost 4... which i got to sit in on for 20ish minutes. then our interview was slightly over an hour long. he was pretty awesome, but being at downstate from 11-5 was a looooong day.

WashU has the best lunch. They have a pretty good sit-down resaraunt in the medical center, and they pick up the bill.

at least that's what they did last year.

Sounds awesome. I'm waiting in my class for the professor, who was supposed to be here 15mins ago. I'm leaving in 5 mins if he's not here by then.

oi. my boss has asked me to stay until oct 2nd to switch jobs. so in 2 weeks i get to run two more experiments (three days, one per week) and do all of the analysis and he wants me to write it up before I go. unfortunately, i started the project in june but haven't done much background research yet because i've been too busy. oh, and he wants me to analyze all the data from some other experiment so he can write it up as soon as I go. on the plus side, it'd be another paper i'd be on, but still. in two weeks?

fun times.

Hey guys, what is the rule of thumb on writing thank you notes? Like email AND write a thank you note? or do one or the other, or email first, then write thank you note a bit later as a reminder? what do y'all think?

i wouldn't do both. as far as email or handwritten... i don't think it matters much at all. whatever's easier for you. the admissions office may have implied that one or the other was better for them, but beyond that i doubt it matters.

LurkerMom here - I got a letter from U Maryland yesterday saying I was not accepted early decision but was put into the regular decision pool. Not the end of the world, but still a little disappointing. Then, today, I got an interview invite from them! I'm on an emotional rollercoaster lol. So excited, though, and my interview's next Weds! Just had to share - good luck to all...

Hey everybody.

Finally had a couple of minutes to post so I thought I'd do just that. 😎

GW and WF were great. Love the locations. I guess I'm really not that picky though.

Got an invite for Stony Brook!

Excited that NY is showing lots and lots of love.

Story time:

1. I had a girl at one of my interviews who absolutely had to keep repeating (even in front of committee members 😱) how many interviews she had, how great she was, how wonderful Vandy/DC/etc. schools were, and how she was really cool. I kid you not. Man do I have some stories for when the cycle is finished. 😀

2. During one of my interviews, the interviewer stops me in the middle of talking about my current research. He proceeds to tell me "I just got through reading a great news story about exactly this...is this a different lab?"

Well, my lab people were at a conference and apparently while I was away interviewing some of the media/conference people decided that our research was BIG NEWS. At least for this particular field. So it turns out that the interviewer knew my boss and appreciated (understatement) the work we are currently doing.

So I get back to work and find out that our lab work is being presented (based upon preliminary data) as the first cure in existence for a big illness using an already FDA-approved drug. I e-mail the interviewer being like "hey, turns out it was my lab...thanks for everything!"

He e-mails back, "how about working in my lab between year 1 and 2..."

🙂

I think it went well. Something tells me. But you never know what the whole committee will decide.

Alright, I'm out for a little while.

Back to all that work I haven't had time to do. 🙁

Oh, and I had a busy day updating every school with the "big news."

And I got stopped (then released) by a state trooper after he found out I was an EMT in the area.

And a news station did a story in my lab about the Yale student.

Too much news for one day. 👍 👎

JJ, I may be using the public transportation. It all depends on if my host is on-call. She said she'll pick me up if she can, but if not I'll let you know how the public transportation works out.

Cool, thanks. How late are you getting there that the public transportation won't be available?

Ugh... my genetics test was miserable... I think I was maybe 1 out of 10 people (in a class of 300) that actually finished it.

How was everyone else's day? For those of you who had interviews, I hope they went well!!

Wow, my hotel has a full kitchen and a living room w/ fireplace. Pimpin'.
It also has a shuttle to the hospital.

So, I just bought $100 of beer for my roommate since they don't sell it in LA. It was a whole shopping cart of beer = beautiful.

Now, I'm going to find some food.

OK, cool. How did you get a host? I didn't know they had them.

Bamtuba, the medical school is at the Wake Forest University Medical Center, not the undergrad campus, correct?
