Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
my head may be a little slow today, but...

why do people say "nice stats" .. i mean, i get the concept, but where does "stats" come from. if we were playing baseball and not the application game, i would get it, but really there are no statistics in this conversation. really, it's just "nice gpa and mcat", right?

It's good not to have interviews for a while now. I can finally catch up on schoolwork.

Anybody watching this one? Good game.

I just use Expedia.

bing actually searches expedia, orbitz, kayak, etc etc and gives a result of those and you can choose to track it. its only beneficial for certain circumstances but i think it will help with my cleveland situation

NBA referees are now formally locked out.

I used to shadow cardiologists and while following around some fellows in nuclear medicine, I got to see danny crawford take an exercise stress test. even though he's only a ref he's in great shape. no ed hochuli tho

just had baylor today, i know you weren't impressed by it, ksmi, but i personally thought it was pretty awesome 🙂. then again, it was my first interview.

I didn't say I wasn't impressed. Just not as much as I thought I would be. It is still a pretty awesome place.

Damn straight 😎

For a mid-season applicant like me (complete at most schools about 10 days ago), when should I expect the majority of interviews invites? Early october?

washu and wake were fast and processed my app in less than a week

Working on Saturdays sucks and boring. Good thing I have a computer.🙂

Yeah, I guess October, November.

Just woke up, got in from Houston at about 2:15am. I loved 😍 Baylor.
Texas Medical Center = amazing.

Congrats on everybody's interviews!

Also, while I was at Baylor, I got a Vermont interview! It's scheduled fairly soon, so I'm not quite sure how I'm going to deal with this now. It's just sooooooo far away...

Alright, off to another busy day.

yeahhhh...I worked til 1:30 - 2am on Thursday night finishing a work product...then she changed her mind on Friday and I had to redo it. Got an email this morning saying that she had changed her mind AGAIN, and now I'm working on Saturday...

but at least I'll make it to my 45 hour minimum this week without having to take a day off for my UNC interview on Friday 😀.

So Northwestern panel interviews are kinda awkward/artificial... but awesome school nonetheless. UChicago on Tuesday. 👍

Hope everybody else's fall semester is going well! It's hard to keep in mind that I'm not just a med school applicant, I'm also a senior college student. 😛

whats that mean? i heard they had a sick simulation lab

Don't get me wrong, everything about the school was amazing, I just found it strange to be simultaneously interviewed with 2 other applicants by 3 interviewers. Maybe it was just me, anybody else interview at Northwestern yet?

nah its probly just you that interviewed. i think u are really early.

do you think that they just didn't have enough faculty or do they believe in their methods

what kind of questions can they ask in that situation. do you just go down the room and talk about each. it has to be a fairly long interview then right?

i have had those "orgy" interviews for jobs. but job interviews tend to be way more professional and less personal than med school interviews. those situations would lead to case studies or group work rather than "so.. why medicine"

it must be fun for the interviewer to ask a topic like healthcare when they know (maybe by the PS) that the applicants will disagree on and start an awkward fight or something

going out to a club = no pockets
going to a professional event = pockets
thats just me, it will go unnoticed though, especially with a suit on

I ask because most of my dress shirts don't have pockets, and personally I like them that way. Gotta buy a few more and can't decide which to get.

OK, this is going to sound really stupid, but I just took a *close* look at my dress shirts and apparently they all do have a left pocket.

Pockets it is.

It's just the way they do it, they seem to realize people don't like it because they were justifying it/holding it up as a model for their team-based PBL learning curriculum. It was an hour and fifteen minutes long, and it was probably 85 degrees in our tiny little room by the end of the interview, what with that many nervous people in the same room.

I don't mean to diss on Northwestern, because I think it's a great place and the students were incredibly welcoming and friendly, and their location is unbeatable. I just disliked that one aspect of the interview day. In addition to the panel there is also a one-on-one conventional interview with an admissions person, by the way.

They did make us do this strange group exercise where we had to discuss with the other applicants a scenario and come up with a group solution, then present it and our reasoning to the committee. The situation involved a 4th-year medical student who caused the death of a patient basically through negligence, and we had to "decide" on how to discipline the student. The situation is based on an actual student who was at Northwestern.

The only dress shirts I have w/out a pocket are my short-sleeved I'm going to go get ****faced at the beach type dress shirts.

but I have no clue as to the actual etiquette rules surrounding pockets.
