I've completey blown off this Friday AND Saturday, and all I can think of is NFL games today. And I have a lot of hw and midterms next week.🙁

Same here! I have a gigantic midterm this week that I haven't begun to study for... This always happens on game day weekends!

Heaven forbid boys be attracted to someone who is their intellectual equal...

Dude, I told you that I wasn't gonna mention it to anyone else. You dug this hole for yourself. And I thought it was especially amusing because the member in question was a boy.

Hey, I already clarified my statement! Besides, you're probably gonna have a hard time finding an intellectual equal....

With no interviews for me for almost a month, I actually have to concentrate on school now. No "I'll be out of the state" excuses and such. 🙁

But I have to go to RadioShack to buy a new phone charger, and WalMart to buy some food, and other stuff... Back to reality now.

i WISH i were going through this (and through everything else) with a SO. 🙁

I feel very strongly that my SO has been a terrific source of strength to me throughout this process; I am so grateful for this.

Who cares about that game? Come on Pats! And go Niners!

So here's my question...

It's breast cancer awareness month, and it's all fine and great that the NFL teams are wearing pink to promote it, but did they reaaaalllllly need all new caps, cleats, gloves, shirts, etc. with a pink stripe??? And how much did that all cost??? They could have attached pink ribbons/pins to things and had the same effect, while the money they saved from not getting all new outfits could have been donated to breast cancer research.

Wow.

You guys all got really busy the past day or two! Very impressive, especially the part about swiffering at 2am. Interesting.

So I went out last night for the first time in months. It was fun.

Needed it.

And speaking of complete crapshoot/not knowing how your interview really goes I have a story for ya'll. So I finally checked the WF site (after not hearing back from them...go figure), and got the post-interview rejection. Real classy wording too...something about "your application has been declined after blah, blah, blah." Felt like I had just handed someone a bad credit card or something. 0/1 so far and wow was I shocked about this one. So I called to find out wth happened, I mean really, not even waitlisted? I didn't remember insulting the dean's mother and running over any pedestrians getting to NC or the like. So I called admissions and asked if they could give me some info. And they eventually did.

Here's how it went down:

Me: So, I had an invitation from one of my interviewers to come work in his lab during school between the first two years. Um, what's going on? Was there something about my app. that was good enough to get me invited but so detrimental that I wasn't even considered WL worthy?

Peeps: Well, your interviews are marked "avg."

Me: Really? Everyone, on average, is offered a job upon interviewing?

Peeps: Well, one interviewer had you marked as "great," another had you marked as "above average," and the third (Biochem PhD) had some concerns.

Me: Interesting, well thanks for your time.

Turns out the PhD interviewer didn't like me in our 15 minute speed-interview. I wasn't shocked to learn this, as he was probably one of the most intense, personality wise, of my interview season to date, but was blown away by the fact that one (apparently) awkward 15 minute session could so negatively counteract two great interviews with corresponding positive comments.

I'll miss you Wake. You were, alas, a great option. One I would have loved to have had.

Oh well.

Other fish in the sea. Gonna keep being myself and not let it get me down. Just kind of sucks having this news come first!

Just hope I'm not really coming across as an *ss in these things...😀

But now think of all the cool new jerseys, hats, etc. with pink stripes they can sell! 🙂

Sorry bamtuba. You'll get plenty of love elsewhere.

Wow, I didn't know interviews were that important. Guess L2D was right after all.

So yeah, I'm pretty convinced that Wake has a mean interviewer each day just to see how people handle it. I think that's just mean of them. Mine was pretty douchey and I don't think I did a very good job with his "concerns." He flat out told me that he didn't think I was culturally diverse because I went to school in the same city that I grew up and that I like the LSU culture. And he argued with me about my belief that scientific research doesn't offer as much of a diverse group of people to work with as medicine does.

Sorry about the rejection, bamtuba.

Sometimes, they work it out so that the shoe/cleats/etc. companies donate at least part of the money they earned for selling those products to the cause they're advocating.

Yeah, I've always figured that interviews are MEGA important, but it was really interesting. I mean, he wasn't really even mean, I think he just didn't like my background nor my answers to some of his questions involving the reasons I got involved with research. Weird guy. Just kind of scary that they would ignore 2/3 of the interview committee.

Sorry to hear that man, maybe they do try to stress you out with one of the interviewers. They sure hand out rejections pretty fast too.

Wake has 3 interviews? That's intense.

LSU-NO had 3 interviews that were supposed to last for 40 minutes each. One was closed file. It took quite a while.

WF did speed dating: 3-15 minutes each, closed file, with no break in between and before touring anything (at least for me...).

Kind of odd, but to each his/her own.

I do appreciate the support guys. This process can really suck.

Alright, done dwelling.

It's possible that they want candidates who can get along with all 3 types of interviewers. Kinda like how a 35 MCAT with a 15 15 5 is not as strong as one with a 12 12 11. Odd how they do it through. It doesn't sound like you did anything poorly in your interview, it sounds like the interview just didn't like your profile from the get-go.

To quote the New York lottery: "You never know."

Sorry about the rejection, bamtuba. I'm sure it makes it even worse because it was a post-interview rejection and they didn't even bother with the waitlist. I find that whole interview weight thing odd. Maybe I won't even bother with Wake anymore.

Did the other interviewees your day think he was as intense as you thought?

We really didn't discuss it. My interview group was very NOT COOL. There was one girl from Vandy that was AWESOME! But there was A LOT of the whole "oh, I'm so great, I have 7 interviews"...and the dean ate that person up at our meet and greet...scary.

I don't think the guy liked that I was A) married B) not from NC and C) a musician encroaching on "his territory." I have specific reasons for believing this to be the case, but it doesn't matter. In the end the committee didn't think I was great enough to outweigh what happened in that room.

Don't give up on Wake. Think about it like this: if I had only had the first 2 interviewers, things would likely have played out well. You have to try.

But, I was a little ticked that they didn't even e-mail me to let me know considering the time and money we all put into this. I mean, no e-mail POST-INTERVIEW?!?! That was kind of lame.

im going to ****ing choke mark sanchez and his choking ass. i hate USC and their recent lack of NFL worthy talent. how do you throw away so many close drives

Screw Wake, bamtuba. They're not worth it. You'll get in at a better place!

Yeah that dude was intense. I wonder how we'll fare.

That was probably the most blunt thing that I would never say out loud. 👍

Thanks.
