Hey, a question for all of you who interviewed at Wake. Do they have a student host program? I can't seem to find it.

This is what scares me. My bf is currently planning to enter medicine as well... and though I'm sure it's possible, I'm terribly afraid that there's no way well be able to have a family and both be docs as well. 🙁

I didn't do them either; then again, I think the only one you guys would care about is Baylor (other than that, I just had the Texas publics), and I think I've already been a little overzealous in carrying the banner of Baylor 🙂
 
sometimes people on SDN really piss me off. especially whenever the subject of financial aid and/or debt comes up. 🙄

Well, if you're both doctors, then you'll have the understanding part down pat. It IS still a concern, though, because you'll be really constrained time-wise. Marriage between MDs happen pretty often, so maybe you should ask for advice from those who've made it work.

Yeah... I mean, you don't want to go into this career blind, but you're not going to be poor as a doctor, either.

Nah, I'll do them. Just don't feel like doing it right now. Call it procrastination.

haha. point taken. but still... i'll be considering many things before i consider the $$ when choosing which med school to attend. you might not be doing the same, but we should still be able to respect each other.

my parents were both docs. they actually had me during med school. we were poor for most of the time and since they decided to have another kid 9 years later they are still repaying loans (med school to car loans to mortgage).

i definitely didnt see my parents at all regularly but they did stay for my brother.

it works out for the most part. im also ridiculously independent

i dunno the whole situation obviously, but if he can't handle now, what will happen during Step 1 studying? 3rd/4th year? or residency?

maybe it was for the best.

i actually had a lot more respect for them when they didnt come home often. it made me respect medicine a lot more.

i dont plan on having a family at all though
 
one thing people dont realize about medicine is how much moving around you are going to do

sure you can try to stay in the same place, but sometimes things dont work out

Did you feel that you were missing out though? With your parents being so busy?
 
we actually talked about pre-existing relationships at Duke

they said that approximately ~1 incoming relationship survive. pretty scary stuff.

nah im pretty self absorbed, didn't feel that way at all

yea i mean because we moved i had to make new friends a lot but you deal with it

obviously depends on the kid, im pretty self absorbed. i dont think it would have worked with my brother (but you never know)
 
that lets end the debate thread is ridiculous (school specific)

if you are what you eat, how do tools survive for that long

oh yea. my parents trained/worked at different locations too. so i lived with my mom even tho my parents weren't separated or anything

I totally agree with this. There are way too many people on this forum that are just, take the money and run no matter what. A lot of people underestimate the importance of location. What if you hate being in the city of the school that gives you $$$?

Unless I get a full ride (which I won't), I'm going to be in debt anyway - so I'll choose where I want to go based on what I like and where I feel comfortable. Or wherever accepts me.
