Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
wait, you just drop a bin of stuff and leave, and it gets magically autoclaved? weak. wait again - i just reread that. you don't even fill your own boxes!?! 😱 bizarre. all our labs buy our own supplies - often different styles/brands of tips - and fill our own boxes. and sometimes, if i'm in the mood, i'll just fill a box steril-ly so i don't have to autoclave something before i need. but when i have time, i like the autoclave. it's like opening a giant submarine door.

yeah. well...i seem to recall at least a few schools that have more structured interview questions, so it in those cases the "tough question" wouldn't apply

we buy our own tips, but they pick up those packages and have it in a section and they fill it for us and autoclave

so anybody getting new invites lately?

Nope (I got one last week, first in several weeks).

Seems like it has really slowed down. Only a smattering mentioned over on the school threads (well, the school threads I frequent).

Well, most of my interviews were more conversational...

I got UCLA this week and UW last week. also 2 more holds🙂

not a fan of talking about med school admission tactics and what not but here are some stuff i have heard from different ppl on the committee that i have randomly talked to or through my parents

4. if they dont ask you tough questions, they aren't interested in you (i dont know if thats true) - so try to namedrop people or throw them off

im screwed then lol. UCD is the only school that asked me somewhat challenging questions...they werent challenging as much as i felt the were more in depth and what people think are "hard"

the rest of my interviews were so conversational and more interested in my background and my path to where i am...some didnt even ask why medicine or simple things like that....i always wondered if that was a bad sign.........:scared::scared:

like i said i think people just say random ****
probably right, not too worried regardless...i just dont like waiting 2 months + to hear back from schools post interview...wish they could make the turn around time abit better 🙂. All that time to think about the interview makes me think about the possible pitfalls i had🙁

really? i totally forgot my interviews

i feel like all of them went really well, and that if im rejected or waitlisted it has to be something else but that you cant really know. itd be nice if they were more transparent, like clothing

Wow... I haven't been gone for less than 24 hours and 5 pages have been added to the conversation!

Anyway, how's it going?

I thought you might find this entertaining. The word of the day on my google page: triskaidekaphobia, the fear of the number 13.

Hold from Maryland.

At least I know that med schools haven't lost my email address, so I'm actually taking this as a positive. This is the first thing I've heard from a non-interview school in about 3 weeks or so.

me too.

Man, hold from George Washington University. First I've heard from any school and it's a darned hold.

i haven't heard anything since 10/02. i cant stand going into the school-specific board b/c the rest of the schools have passed over my completed dates. tough wait.

I just sent thank you emails to all 6 faculty I met with last friday. Whew. Too bad I don't think they have any say on admissions... ah well. They were all nice.

oh, and this week i've only heard from the school I just interviewed at (to fill a rating form, and to "stay in touch," etc) and from Michigan because they want my picture. I still think that's weird.

i stopped sending thank yous after vandy... which was my first interview

im gonna have to buy some thank you cards or something

They just want to make sure they free a special interview day for us where they give us the secret cool stuff and tour. We're just too special for everyone else and UMD doesn't want to make the others jealous. 😀

haha that must be the reason!

i think lot of us are at hold there

blue, me, d dubs, some other peoples

you can add me to that fun club

They put so many on hold, pretty big nerve for a school that was on probation recently, still is if I recall.
well considering the apps they get it shouldnt be surprising...not to mention honestly, i dont think any of us really think of gwu as a number one choice that wed take over our current interviews....correct me if im wrong. Im sure its not high on any of our lists.

Yeah, I sent em to my first interviews, and then I only sent them at my top 2 choices after that.

EDIT: I would like to point out, I have the first post on page 666. Muahahaha.

Good evening everyone!!! I haven't heard any news from schools in a while...just had my Drexel interview today - I think it went well! Hoping for a little more activity in my inbox soon from other schools...this was my last scheduled one.

And I have yet to have one "really tough" question. Though, I thought some NJMS questions were a bit tough (and illegal?). Yet, I feel confident...time will tell...

Oh yeah, I'm on hold at GWU as well :/ Bleh.

I just noticed that! I think it's only fitting that Halloween is so close... Any supersticious 2014ers out there?

What do you mean illegal? What did they ask?

yeah it stars sasha grey who's an adult film star in real life... the movie was shot pretty intelligently, its an independent film put out by magnolia films but i got it at blockbuster

sasha grey 😍

ok ksmi stop guessing

OSU with elmo or rockaction?

😱
i speak for the state of minnesota, which is greatly offended by this statement. MN and WI are bff's. go study a map.

:meanie:

I heard MN is exactly like WI, except a bit worse in everything.

i heard some people have to do their own autoclaves? does any one have experience with this? we usually just leave empty tip boxes or anything else that we might need autoclaved (and filled) and someone usually comes by and does this every couple of hours

At my lab we have to do our own autoclaving....

I really don't feel like trying to find my 666th post, so I'll just bring some new pics to set the mood for this page. Enjoy.

I was asked about handling a future career as a physician being a woman, being possibly a wife, and then trying to juggle in raising a family. I was asked how I plan on juggling it all, blah blah blah. I'm pretty sure that's technically "illegal," however, I didn't really mind.

p.s. - I am not married, nor was I inappropriately wearing a ring on my fourth finger, left hand. lol

Not sure if that's illegal or not, but I'm pretty sure this is not uncommon for an interviewer to ask.

yes, it is illegal for them to ask these questions. my mock interviewer told me this, and my dad (lawyer) confirmed it.

Marriage is not, but pregnancy might be, since only women get pregnant and it could be sexist.

So I've a wad of one dollar bills in my wallet and I've bookmarked Fat' Joes "Make It Rain" on my computer, so if get an acceptance I'm going to make it rain on dem hoes.

Apparently a lot of interviewers ask the "illegal" questions about potential family/sexist things and what other schools you applied to. It seems the issue resides in whether you take offense to it or not. And you also don't have to answer by pointing out your concerns with the legality of the question.
