damn you got me figured out. i also have a friend of mine pretend to be a mugger after the movie and act like he's going to rob us. i, of course, save the day. after, i tell the girl that i have to go home to call my grandmother on her birthday and hope that she is comfortable walking home by herself. i have my friend pretend to stalk her (pop up around random trees as shes walking) so she gets scared and she has to call me later in the night. im gonna have to switch my game up now

nah its cool, i have my friend drive a VW Beetle while stalking to make it obvious.
 
my idea of a date is like going to a scary movie, going to olive garden and going somewhere afterward for dessert. and then coming home and telling my friends how sick that movie was and then going to watch it again, getting drunk, going to olive garden in the afternoon hungover. sleep

I 😍 scary movies. I've heard that Paranormal Activity was very good. It's supposedly in an avant-guarde filming style... I'll probably go see it Halloween weekend.

Really delivers without all of the gore/dumb "monsters"/etc. The way it is shot really adds to the 'realism'.

2 Interview Invites this morning as well:

- NYMC (going to schedule this later if I can due to the 'meh.' reputation I've heard)
- Downstate! WOO! Was hoping to hear from them. Definitely very excited for this one.

LurkerMom here - need a forum for whining for a moment. Two of my boys have been diagnosed with H1N1, I haven't slept well in a week, and I'm falling hopelessly behind in my classes. I'm so grateful I got into Maryland, but my acceptance is contingent on finishing my 2nd degree, and I'm starting to worry I won't be able to. /freaking out.

🙁 I'm sure you'll be able to pull it off. It's only halfway through the semester anyway. No worries yet. Plenty of time to get caught up.

I don't know how you do it with a family, but if you've gotten this far, I have faith that you'll make it through.

you WILL be able to! all you have to do is finish. you don't have to be perfect or even good. you got into medical school-- the biggest hurdle is behind you. i, too, had H1N1 and while i was miserable for a few days, i recovered pretty quickly overall. i hope your boys start to feel better as fast as i did! and keep in mind that we're rooting for you! :luck:

Good luck to you. People with stories like yours are really the ones that deserve to get in. The next few weeks are going to be rough, but at the end of the tunnel it's going to feel so good 🙂

So, I got my UVA letter and I was rejected. 🙁

I just don't get it. My confidence is at an all-time low now. That's two outright rejections after interviews. I felt like I really had a shot there. I was on their first interview of the season! Do I really interview that badly? I know I'm already into LSU and I should be counting my blessings, but after getting these invites I had expectations and put all my stock into these other schools. Now I don't even know if I'll have a choice.

I know how you feel and it sucks.

Makes you wonder why the heck they even invited you. At least this is what I felt. Just get through it, and don't beat yourself up for feeling bad. You have legit reasons for feeling like you do, just get through it and look ahead to the rest of the news that is soon coming your way (likely to be more positive, I'll bet...)

Yea that's kinda odd, but the good thing is you already have an acceptance in hand. Maybe you could try some mock interviews?

Interview skills do matter, and there is a myriad of things that you can screw up on. I interviewed pretty poorly last year and I had no clue why, 'cause I have no problem socializing or holding conversations and I don't get nervous or anything either. Turns out it was my posture and general attitude(i.e. unprofessional and lackadaisical), which my friends helped me improve. You could ask some of your friends to help as well. It doesn't necessarily have to be someone who knows medicine, just someone who knows proper interview etiquette. Maybe ksmi can help if she has time?

I see what you're saying and have a feeling that was the case for OSU, but the UVA interview went great. Maybe it is my interviewing (which was no problem at LSU), but maybe it's also one of those "thought it went awesome and it might have, but we still hate you" kind of things.

I doubt you have any serious problems, maybe just a little tweak here and there, or maybe it's nothing at all. But if you've got interviews you'd like to nail down, it wouldn't hurt to do a mock or two. I thought my interviews went fine last year too, the conversations went pretty smoothly, and I was invited to an early interview at my alma mater, so I thought I've got it all set. But turns out things didn't work out that way, and there actually WAS a reason for it, so it might not hurt to give it a try. After all, you have to do this crap all over again in 4 years.
 
sorry to hear that metallica, but isnt UVa like a state school that likes to pull more Virginians
