What is going on this week for me?!

2 Yesterday... now Temple invite today. 🙂

temples an amazing school. not gonna lie, that was one of my top choices. even though its in a tough neighborhood, the faculty there are really welcoming. i get emails from the Emergency Med dept all the time (which is always popping with crazy cases):

"I'm sorry for the delay and to tell you that, instead of working this evening, I will be working in the ED from 11PM to 7AM tonight.

I can see who is on and can be fairly certain that anyone would be fine with having you there to shadowing this evening. Otherwise, it's the overnight shift.

Let me know if you want me to call an let folks know that you will be coming this afternoon.

Best,"

and they tell me whenever they have a crazy night or expect a crazy night and residents really pull you over and are extremely friendly. obviously the clinical side is ridiculously fast pace and they are a stronghold of philly because they see a specific type of patients and all that. yea, i really like TU.

the new building is pretty hot

dont let the drive through the neighborhood discourage you. the people have a lot of personality there.

what do u think about drexel?

the attendings always introduce me to the residency directors and stuff too, even though i have no clue whats going on. i love neighborhoods where people are getting shot and stabbed and **** though, and then getting their lives saved.

what do u think about drexel?

i like drexel a lot. hanhemann ( i cant ever spell it even though im in the building) is a pretty famous hospital. the people there are really cool, and if you end up there, i'll probably know some of your classmates - who are all welcoming.

one of the things about drexel as a university system is that they have a pretty good co-op system for undergrad. i think the school has a better job placement record (in the last couple of years) than penn, so their endowment has been going up a lot. that means that they have been able to give aid as well as build new buildings, and philly being a healthcare city, hospitals and research facilities are a primary concern for any school.

you have a great MBA program w/ drexel and if you like the city of philly, they have a pretty strong track record (as does temple jefferson penn) w/ orthopedics.

the staff at all philly schools are cool

but they are mad slow

Yeah I have heard some awesome things about the school...especially about the beautiful new building. I am really excited to go here and was really hoping to hear from them. Can't wait!

I am Dec. 3 which means winter. I need to be there around 11AM but I don't think I want to do a hotel. You think its possible to get a super early flight out of ROC and be okay? Also... lunch ends and then I have a few hours until my interview. Maybe I should have scheduled closer to after lunch but they gave me the day schedule AFTER I scheduled. Ah well.

i would try to email the other schools and tell them you are in the area

they probably wont respond but its worth a shot to extend your stay.

if you are out of town, you will probably like jefferson the best. it caters to out of town people, i think.

even though it takes like 10-15 min to get to the airport to temple, i would give at least 30-45 min to get to the school (after you get out of the airport). so i would plan accordingly

hotels in philly, i would guess, are pretty expensive

Okay so you think the same day arrival and departure will be okay? (Considering Jefferson declines my "in the area email")

if you applied to penn state, might as well send them an email. you could even drive there since hershey would be closer to you. stay near there for really cheap and then drive to TU and then drive back

Uggghh. You guys are making me feel bad. I withdrew from my Temple interview today... I'll just keep convincing myself that the neighborhood isn't good. That'll help.

UVA is a lot cheaper than TU though

as far as the neighborhood, yea. its pretty bad. it was really bad 2 or 3 summers ago and thats giving the feeling that philly is like that (when 7 cops got killed one summer). we have really long blocks and stray bullets hitting kids were/are common.

however, detroit is worse, and chicago will be worse soon. or thats what i tell myself

can u get a 8 AM flight or something like that?

Wow. The direct flight from ROC to Philly is like 700$.

If I connect through NYC its only like 260 or something so I might do that and my arrival time would be like 9:15 am which would be fine.

yeah bb a lot of the doctors where i live now are surprisingly alumni of hahnemann/drexel. a group of them are ortho too. kind of refreshed my desire to check out drexel. I just haven't heard a whole lot about the program which is why I asked. I was really surprised to get an interview since there are no essays and my numbers aren't great. I have a crapload of ECs though, which may have had something to do with it obvi. im staying with a student host too so that will save me money.

Where is drexel med compared to temple undergrad?

do you like temple or drexel better, brooklyn?

Hey buddy my interview is Dec 5th at drexel but you might be gone by then

Where is drexel med compared to temple undergrad?

they take a lot of people (i heard some one say temple and drexel eventually accept 70-80% of the people they interview)

drexel med school and temple undergrad are kinda far (a couple of miles). i think drexel med and the hospital itself is around 3 miles. philly transportation isnt bad though, its easy to get around

do you like temple or drexel better, brooklyn?

they are both cool. temple has that philly pride and has to recruit philly physicians because of the area (but they are pretty great), drexel brings in a lot of outside faculty.

i think you guys would like jefferson the best, because its in the heart of the city and it really caters to people coming in from the outside (as well as that #1 ortho program or whatever that you will see a billion of ads for). and then it has a couple of outpatient clinics in lower merion/main line which is a really really really nice area of outer philly.

just waitlisted at UCI. 2 post interview decisions, 2 waitlists...this is making me paranoid now. i can just imagine now 7 waitlists and rejections from all my interviews...my mock interviewer said my interview stuff is fine...maybe its just my stats are such trash that maybe my interview is good but not good enough to make them want me? but then why bother interviewing me if my stats suck that bad? I think im overthinking things.

you think theres a lot of hospitals in philly w/ penn temple jefferson drexel and even pcom as academic centers...

there are more than you think

drexel jefferson temple penn all have hospitals outside of philly as well (in pitt and jersey and some abroad)

no worries man, i think schools have been overaccepting and they dont know how to predict patterns any more so they are probably just pulling the class mostly from waitlist now. it sucks but i guess its a patience thing. you'll get in eventually

that post kinda confused me. I really would like to go to jefferson, i sent them an in-area e-mail and spoke with them but I dont think they're going to interview me. Meh. no biggie.

i think the norm these days is to waitlist most people so they dont over-accept. they accept the superstars only first, then us regular people will get accepted later. it sucks having to wait longer to learn our fate, but i think getting waitlists rather than rejections is a good sign for now.

🙁 Sorry. I find it hard to believe that you won't get in somewhere with 7 interviews though. You'll be fine.

i sent an email to drexel telling them that i teach kids that are automatically acccepted to their med school at a certain MCAT score and that i applied to their program and still havent received their email (i put it in the nicest professional way possible) this was like 2 or 3 weeks ago, i still havent gotten a replied and i applied to them in like june when the primaries opened?

philly is like that. you will see weird ass patterns. i noticed that whenever the playoffs get intense people stay home or at the bars and parking in the city frees up a bit more (obviously the highway traffic to the field increases). **** gets intense during the eagles season. you should have seen that riot last year. we get emails from our schools telling us not to park on major streets anytime its a big series clinching game (wednesday)

Sorry man. I hope you hear better news soon. Good luck on your test ksmi. It doesn't matter if you get a 4.0 anymore does it?

I'm also very interested in Jefferson... I just sent the "in the area" but I heard they aren't too receptive to that. ... Actually they just emailed me back with the "we'll email ya if we want ya" shpiel. Oh well. The location seems awesome too as it looks to be right in the heart of the city.

I am sorry to hear that 🙁

I'm sure you will hear some good news soon 👍

I'm sorry Elijah and Jimmer. I got rejected by gtown yesterday, and yeah I keep having second thoughts about myself. A lot of insecurity right now. Let's at least hope.

Yeah. It's whatever. It sucks getting WLed from a school that accepts over 50% of people they interview, though. GL to all of us.

aw blue, i dont think theres any reason to feel insecure. you still have a lot of schools to hear from, its going to happen!

Note: do not schedule 2 interviews back-to-back. I am exhausted, and the day is only half over.

And don't feel bad about getting WL'd. If they accept 50%, that includes people coming off the waitlists. Still a great shot.

True but the problem with UCI is that they literally reject nobody. You are either accepted or waitlisted. If rejections come out its not till late in the cycle so its hard to know or gauge anything you know? I guess its just w/e...really the bad part is now i have to fly to philly, ny, and wisconsin lol...i dont really wnat to keep flying everywhere

Dude. I did that on a Monday and Tuesday with an 8 hr drive in the middle. Big mistake.

Don't be insecure Blue. I have faith in you. 👍
