whoa, i almost beat ksmi in fantasy, i was getting whipped bad and finally got the courage to check it. turns out i only lost by 1 assist, howtf did that happen

It can't be done. That call was indefensible. I mean, obviously if it works and the Pats win, he looks like a genius tomorrow, and if I had to guess, the chances are that on a passing play, Brady will make a complete pass of more than 2 years >50% of the time. So cerebrally, I understand the call to go for it. But the thing is, even getting the first down there doesn't win the game because Indy still has all 3 timeouts, while failing puts you in a HUGE problem. A huge risk with a pretty big reward, but a cataclysmic penalty for failure. Furthermore, if you're going for it on 4th and 2, WHY are you throwing a 2.1 yard pass??? You're one of the most high-powered offenses in the league; you couldn't make it a 4 or 5 yard pass just to give yourself some breathing space?

And that's before you even get into the fact that the Pats had no timeouts. Seriously, wtf.

I actually used to be something of a Patriots fan as my second team after the Cowboys; I was one of the few guys who called their first Super Bowl win over that Rams team that everyone thought was unbeatable. I thought they were a really smart, well-coached team. But now they are just arrogant with how smart they think they are, and it leads to embarrassments like tonight.

i think you had it right with the first sentence. the call was crap. period. even if they had gotten it. if it was a 4 down situation (which he should have known at 3rd down) they should have run on 3rd. they should also just have let addai run it in. inexcusable on multiple fronts.

Dumb play, yes. In his defense though, we've gone for it on 4th a couple other times this year and had it work out for us. He thought it was do-able... Would have been a clincher if it had worked out.

See, but that's the thing... it wouldn't have been. The Colts had their timeouts still. So getting that 1st down doesn't actually end the game.
