Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Absolutely. Felt the same way about UTSW and Baylor. If I hadn't already found a place to live in Houston by the time UTSW called, I'm not sure what I would have done. After both of my interviews, I had the "I absolutely want to go there next year" feeling.

Anyways, getting into either of those schools would be an incredible achievement; should you find yourself getting to make a choice, that would be a very pleasant problem to have 🙂
I hope so.
I honestly never thought that I'd be one of the few left standing at the end of all the pre-med crazyness....actually I never thought about it period lol. I just did what I needed to do.
Getting into Emory or Duke would be a dream come true.

:luck:

Maybe if you send any update letters you should sign them as Dr. Tatastrophy to make yourself look more impressive.

Sweet, I didn't know Delirium made a seasonal. Love the glass with the elephants and Santa hats.

What's the style?
It's pretty sweet (a Belgian), but it's got a pretty high ABV for beer (10%). I typically almost drink it like wine. It's a little light on the carbonation for me. I'd like it to be a little more carbonated, but it's still heavenly.

I was just reading about how brewers make ridiculously high ABV beers. Supposedly you have to add the sugars gradually while it's fermenting, and use specialized yeast if you go much above 12%. I'm helping my friend brew (well watching mostly) some stout right now. Hopefully it turns out good!

yea all the beers i bought today are above 10% (the brooklyn choc is at 12%) i love heavy beers

are you done going to interviews?
yep. as of this monday-I am done!

Duke doesn't want updates unless you are waitlisted.
I will see what I have to report back to Emory.
Tulane loves me already!

haha, best christmas lights ever:

I promised myself I'd get 8 hrs of sleep tonight. I guess it's not happening. Oh, well 7 is enough. G'night all.

The body's digestive system is less efficient and the nutrients are never even delivered to the cells in the first place.

That's my educated guess. We're doing GI right now.

That's what I would guess. She didn't go into details, she tends to tell slightly related stories that go off on tangents which aren't important for any testing. But they're usually pretty funny and/or interesting.

umm, it could also be higher catabolic rate than anabolic rate comparatively too, no?

Sounds just as likely. I've definitely not researched this.

YES! I'm done reading! I just have to print out my notes and outlines and then I get to go home. I can't believe I actually finished all that.

oohh I finally have a great interview story, so i'm gonna post it here for you guys first!

interviewer: so enough from me, tell me how I can help you Pedie?
me: Well, I really like this school. I want to know how I can get the school to like me in return.
interviewer: Is there anything you would like me to relay to the admissions committee in particular?
me: Certainly my grades the first two years of college.... (gonna launch into a spiehl of how I'm a capable student blah blah blah)
interviewer: aren't as good as the last two? Yeah, you were in college, new experiences, maybe a little irresponsibility along the way. Listen, pedie, that's completely ok. We are looking for people who have had life experiences.... it's almost better than having a guy who's made 4.0's but hasn't had those experiences.... and then tries to overcompensate later on in life. I'd rather you smoke a blunt on two when you're 19 than be a stoner at 35.

I was a little stunned. But my first awesome story nonetheless.

Have you heard about this stuff? 25% ABV, uncarbonated, and at least $250 per bottle. Sam Adams' only makes it once every couple of years. They just broke their own record for highest ABV, actually.

lol that's awesome, was it the nyu or the osu interview? student or faculty?

It was with a faculty member... I'll leave the school up in the air for those that don't know. But it was nice to have a really candid conversation, no bs, just sit down and get to know each other for an hour.

I definitely have to be in bed by 1. You and I have the same problem Yoda. And Brooklyn, though it doesn't seem like he minds.

so the nickname dingy calls me is growing on me
i thought i should reflect that in my new avatar 🙂

It looks like it's barely learning how to walk.... not the fierce predator it's supposed to be.

Basically your avatar reflects how soft you are 😛

actually....my dino is highly evolved....he learned that it is much easier to spot prey from the air and then fall on them like death from the sky.
thats hardcore!

lol oh, ok.... riiiiiight.

btw, this avatar talk reminded me of sammich's ridiculously ugly but lovable avatar

let me bring to your attention the indicators of your softness (which is related to polarizability according to my inorganic prof lol)
Exhibit A:

The Peyton Manning one? I'm no judge, but I don't think he's that ugly.
No, the smiley face.

Peyton is just ugly, not lovable.

Geeeze, diggin up dirt on me. Alright fine, you win. You're ridic haha

I literally gained 5-10 pounds in the last 2-3 weeks of my first block in med school due to compulsive snacking. I've lost it all back and a little more since then, but I've just had to stop buying snack foods altogether; once it's in the house, I have no self-control whatsoever. The downside, of course, is that I'm studying right now and starving 🙁 Plus I have no time to work out right now, so I'm starving AND I'm not losing weight.

Studying = losing weight for me! I get too busy to bother to eat and when I should be eating, I'm not hungry anymore.

So I was shadowing today.
And one of the patients says to me:
"You're a pretty little girl, how old are you? 15?"
ughhhhhhh I need to figure out a way to look my age....

False, I in fact eat more than anyone you could possibly know.

Someone the other day thought I looked 15 too. 😕

haven't watched it yet! but i will and i shall summarize

I'm about 2 weeks behind, but please tell me there's more Liz in the episode. She's the only one who can slap some sense into Christian and Sean.
