Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I did see your comment about getting an Australian accent. Do it. There was another volunteer from Australia and it was so glorious. lol.

It's all part of my plan to pick up chicks. My accent is apparently sounds "weird" so I gots to switch it up.

what happened to telling girls you were a plastic surgeon and ignoring them until they were hammered and desperate?

speaking of Australians... WTF is this.

Why don't people ever greet ME as enthusiastically when I log on?

Because no one likes you. Clearly.

Thanks for the welcomes 🙂

As it still feels like 5:30 in the morning to me and I have to go to work tomorrow, I'm going to try to get some sleep and enjoy being back in my own bed.

Seriously, seriously miss Africa, though. And the other volunteers 🙁

Be careful though. Aussie accents are difficult, so you may just end up sounding oddly British like most other people. Though if you do, you could always pull of the endearing Jeff from Coupling.... (please, someone know what I'm talking about...)

I'll just say "crickey" (sp?) frequently. Blend right in👍👍👍

There's an endocrinology prof here w/ a British accent that all the girls seem to adore.

So I go back to work at my crappy job tomorrow. 🙁

But I found out Chris Paul and his mom are taking a bunch of kids to a movie next Tuesday and I will get to meet him! 😀 😀

Metallica - At least your making money...

And music is so much love. 😍

Anyone else working on final projects? I'm working in a bs sensing system for a greenhouse. I can't..make..myself..write it. Oh well, 2.5 pages (single spaced) done, only 5.5 to go. 🙄

That actually sounds semi-interesting. Tell us more.

Well, the reason why it's bs is because it's not functional whatsoever. It's just a "if you want to control the temperature, hours of daylight, and humidity of a greenhouse, how would you do it?" sort of a problem, but it's not making any real testable solution. This class (sensors and instrumentation) is awesome, but this is a pretty lame project, in my opinion. I guess I'm a hardware person.

Like, you have to write software to do that, or do it automatically, or what?

I guess technically, yes, I am "programming", in a way, but I'm using LabView which is a visual programming language (so it's not really like programming so much as dragging tools onto a screen and connecting them together), and the final output does not need to be functional, just a block diagram. The program doesn't work, though, since I don't have any actual sensors to work with (so I can't see the output of my temperature sensor, etc.)

LabView is actually pretty cool because technically I could load this onto a USB and run it on a really old/low cost computer system to run sensors and appliances (like lights, misters, heaters, etc.) automatically with little to no technician input.

For example, I have a timer that makes sure there is daylight for 12 hours every day, or else it makes a full-spectrum lighting system turn on. It would be way cooler (but waaaay harder) if I could actually see it working.
