I'd totally want to be influenced by the incident. Just because I feel that the lack of courtesy could effect the students attending the school as well.
Yeah, I'd want to know too.

i'mma be having a party... i have a balcony, what up
DON'T DO IT. it's a shizshow.
come to my party instead 😀
why wouldn't we want it moved to allo?

meh. how much does the admissions office have to do with you once you're a student? let's be honest here. applying to my undergrad was amazing and everyone was so nice-- but the school itself was an administrative nightmare. admissions is very separate from offices that students actually need.
but lstone, after the cycle is over and you've committed to some other school, i'd say you should write them a letter.

agree. there will be plenty to complain about at every school besides the admissions procedures
True. I guess I just like to know every detail I can about the schools I've applied to. 🙄

hey guys i need some opinions/advice. im starting to get pretty worried about this cycle. 1 post-interview rejection, 1 post-interview waitlist, 1 interview still waiting on a decision, and one interview coming up in january. I really put all my eggs in one basket (this cycle), and im starting to realize that in case it doesnt happen for me i need a plan. what would you do in my situation? retake the mcat again? take more post bacc? (bear in mind, ive done ~60 semester units at 3.8+ level, lots of upper div science), SMP? (i really really dont want to do it, dont have the money either).
Thanks for any input. i didnt really wanna post this in wamc so i can avoid the douchey people telling me to go to the caribbean.
Well it helps when you're deciding between 32475467577 schools to attend. 😛
which school are you closing in on as your "top choice" or whatever
I would start writing LOIs to the schools you've interviewed at if you are really worried. as far as the other things, i'm really not sure? maybe email drexel? drexel is really bad at administrative things and, you know, the faculty in philly aren't all too friendly so i dont know if you can expect a feedback but maybe a local medical school can also help.![]()
yeah ive been a LOI machine recently. some people keep telling me its too early to panic, but i guess i just cant help it.
drexel straight up told me my grades held me back. i thought my interviews went great there too. so annoying.
So, in response to one of the letters I sent, the person tells me that I've been rejected, but she will put my letter on file anyway. I mean, why couldn't they have told me I was rejected if they already knew it? No, instead, I waste time and energy writing this letter to them only to be embarrassed in the end.
Not Miami.
good then we can all still buy a bentley 😳

ooo sorry to hear that, that's pretty lame of schools to do that
k good 😀
hey, are you doing miami md or md/phd?
If you've got 4 interviews, then postbac probably isn't the best choice. I don't now what your mcat is like, but if it's in the low 30's, you can still improve. How are your EC's? When I realized things weren't going well last cycle, I started doing mad EC's, like 25 hours a week. Think that really helped, but then again, my EC's were extremely weak last year

drexel is a bunch of snakes dude, **** them. whatever it is that you do, you should try to look from both sides. a lot of SMPs and Master's programs are just out there to make money and don't really benefit the applicant in anyway, so be wary even if they show you crazy data!

What? Your grades? And you have a 3.8? I'm so confused.
I have a 3.8, but I'm engineering, so who knows how they view that (3.8 is the cutoff for highest honors at my school)
Anyway, I've heard from real live medical students that most of them didn't even interview until December or January. So don't worry. And stop reading SDN until you get accepted!
If it doesn't work out for you this year, I'd try again next year by applying to more schools.
4 interview invites out of 11 schools is a pretty gamn good ratio, but I don't think you applied to enough schools.
Take the shotgun approach. And be sure to get all apps in ASAP, of course.
If you're looking for someone to take your spot at Loyola...

Off to work. 🙁
44 hours this week should give me some nice money, though.
Hopefully when I come back on I'll have heard some good news from VCU.![]()

haha this isnt my first time around the block! i have a 3.0 gpa, with 3.8 post bacc. its all in my mdapps.
i guess i should clarify...i applied to about 30 schools, i havent updated my mdapps in a while
How are your ECs? Maybe you could improve those.
theyre pretty good. thanks for the input everyone.
sometimes its just good to vent, ill just keep waiting for now.
word, hopefully you get into davis or nymc!
in the meantime, i'll be beating down on drexel kids
Haha! 🙄
Haha I still haven't picked "one" but I've narrowed my out-of-state options to EVMS (if I get in) or GWU. I loved Loyola and Morehouse but I don't know if I like "Chicago" or Atlanta.
I'm also having a hard time deciding if I want to stay here (and have the social support) or if I should run away as fast as possible!
But, then again, this can all change when scholarship time comes around.
yay evms!!🙂 i'm surprised you still haven't heard back yet though, have you tried calling?
how about this 3-way halladay trade? do philadelphians like it?
Was it Oregon ?😛
i wanted to apply to OHSU but tickets to portland were expensive so even in the case that i was lucky to get an interview, it probably would not have been worth the $500ish.
i def wanna visit portland though
Quoting myself from page 2.
My, how things change. I may have only been an assistant Mod at this point! Weird! Actually... I might have been Red. I forget.
All that matters is I never stayed away, and I am in.
What are your thoughts on the thread. Do you want it to stay here or move to Allo eventually?
I'd totally want to be influenced by the incident. Just because I feel that the lack of courtesy could effect the students attending the school as well.
I think I'm going to go ahead and withdraw from the rest of my interviews. I really don't feel like interviewing anymore and I really need to start saving my money up again. :\
i liked it before i found out that drabek and taylor were part of it. drabek was supposedly a future ace
i just dont understand
i was fine with giving up lee because he wouldn't sign an extension for cheap (he wanted 7 years 160 mill, which is too long and too much - thats what she said)
we got halladay without a huge bind on our salary cap, and even though lee was big in the playoffs, halladay >> lee. he's gonna dominate in that NL line up
BUT
we could have had halladay last year for
drabek and happ straight. i was happy until i learned that drabek and taylor were going too. we kinda went a step back but apparently we are getting seattle's top prospects
i wouldn't beat you up if you ended up at drexel 😳
but do you think halladay will still be great in that crazy hitters park in philly? lee proved he could succeed there, i dont KNOW that halladay can, even though in general i agree with you that halladay>>lee.
also, i think youre right about giving up the prospects. a future ace is a prized commodity, but i guess the phillies are going with now, not future? who knows. its an interesting move, thats for sure.
Well, I wasn't going to call. But THEN I got really curious (and lazy) and decided to call, but I couldn't find what I thought was the right number. It was mostly a ploy to stop studying for finals.
I haven't really thought about it since. I liked it there, it reminds me of nola with the size and humidity. Plus I know some people that live there.
they knew they couldn't sign Lee, and they wanted value for him.
I guess they figured Halladay would be a Yankee/Sox if they waited one more year.
I think they signed him for 4 years so they can resign Werth/Howard when needed

haha well i'm sure you'll get a decision in the mail soon (hopefully an acceptance!🙂). i like the area a lot too-has everything you could want in a city but not too big, right near the beach, and warm weather (well, for someone coming from upstate ny that is. the 50 degree winters might actually be cold for you😛). and the school seems like it takes good care of its students and prepares them well.
Yeah, I was kinda chilly during our interview, but I can deal. I really like it it's the perfect size and yes, near the beach. You pretty much summed it up. It's also not as expensive as GWU which is one of the reasons I've been tip toeing around it and Tulane.
I know I probably shouldn't worry as much about money, but I plan on going into Peds, so it's not like I'll be making bank like some of you surgeons out there.![]()
You absolutely should. Cost of attendance is a huge factor.
agree. probably the only real difference between schools that you can accurately judge.
