Yeah I got four letters with only three acceptances
And I got just one letter with 4 acceptances. Go figure.

It's only for accepted, not waitlisted. I know because I was on a bunch of waitlists last year.
You have received this email because you have been waitlisted or conditionally accepted by one or more of the medical schools participating in the AAMC-facilitated program for performing criminal background checks on conditionally accepted applicants and waiting list applicants. Please note that the requesting medical school will be notified if consent is not provided, and that failure to provide consent may result in failing to meet the requesting medical school's admissions requirements

so, where is everyone going next year as of now

Gotta get in somewhere first 😛. What about you brooklyn?
were those for md or mstp?
which mstp programs did you apply to? would you go this year MD only or wait and try again?
@brooklyn
at the moment no idea. may not get in anywhere.
do you guys think it would be better to take an extra year off in between if i don't get in anywhere? i mean, if I apply this year, there won't be much new info on my app (i'm still in school). then again, i'd definitely apply earlier and to less competitive schools.
places like OSU says you should take a year off before applying again. I think you just applied late, most ppl on this thread applied in June including myself (I had nothing to do, I've been out of school for like almost 2 years now, but I graduated a year early and I'm pretty immature so I really enjoyed working)
I think a year off is enjoyable. but you probably would end up getting in this year![]()

i'm going for the mstp. haven't heard either way from the schools yet, though. bah. i'm sticking midwest, so i had MN, MI, WI, MCW, UChicago, WashU, and haven't heard from NW yet. and i got nixed at iowa where an interviewer didn't think i was enthusiastic. bah. weird thing is that i totally was, except that interviewer didn't talk at all and it felt sooo long.which mstp programs did you apply to? would you go this year MD only or wait and try again?
gotcha.Yeah, but I only applied to six schools and ended up with four waitlists.
And I am Iowa bound right now. Withdrew from everywhere else except Prtizker and Wisconsin.

Is it weird that I don't like to shop all that much?
Well see, the weird thing for me is that I like clothes and I like fashion, but I just don't like the act of shopping. I get bored and kind of annoyed.
did the interviewer tell you that to your face when it was over?
can I ask why you are so intent on MSTP? i have done a ton of research, and I feel like I will be asked why I didn't do it. i guess my best answer is that I have worked with several MD-only physicians who do a lot of clinical research in their daily work, and it never seemed like they were missing anything.

I applied MSTP also, but I think I will back out of it
The reason to do a MSTP is because of basic science
you HAVE to want to do basic laboratory science and it has to basically show in your interviews since you get 6-9 interviewers per MSTP
I honestly think PhD is a neccessity in doing high level of basic sciences research + most of your lab members and the people you are mentoring will be doing graduate/basic work, you would want to better understand them from their perspective
a MD is supplemental resource to conduct more relevant research. It gives you greater access to organs, patients, samples, etc. A PhD would have to wait for a collaborator to do extensive translational research, as a MD, PhD you can get access to organs and raise primary cell cultures rather than model cell lines which really don't answer many questions.
thats just my view. MD PhD is more benefitial if you really want to do a PhD. if your goal is to be a doctor dre, mr nwa, mr ak coming straight outta compton so you better make way, i think MD is the better option

omg, that's what i wrote my PS about. how'd you guess my motivations for going into medicine
Its true that you can do w/ a MD - one of previous PIs is a harvard trained MD and he had a sick career, but if you are like most people you are going to need some kind of training in the basic sciences. whether it be post doc, or a phd. this is where free tuition + stipend is more beneficial than spending your 30s doing a post medical school post doctorate
no guessing just knowing.
nyu or sinai?
the money thing makes a lot of sense, but there are so few MSTP spots in the country. i guess my question was more about why MD/PhD in general, money aside.
Somebody from this thread needs to make it into Baylor this year. I'm still holding out hope for ksmi and metallica, and if you stick around scaper, I suppose I'll start rooting for you as well 🙂

the time I have spent in labs as an undergraduate has given me a lot of appreciation for basic research and a solid grasp of what 'real science' is. in a way I feel as though my experiences over the last few years have given me what I would have wanted from a PhD, just sans the actual degree. that being said, I think I would have applied MSTP had I done everything earlier, especially since you can get accepted MD only via that route.
i've mentally been going to sinai since like july.
Most schools have MD/PhD programs with full tuition+stipend. It's just the MSTP schools get funded from the NIH, and that money doesn't have to be paid back later if the student decides they want to drop the PhD part of the program; at the other schools, if you decide halfway in you don't want to do the PhD, you've gotta pay them back.
whether it's true or not, i keep telling myself that once you have made it to the interview it's a level playing field from there. i feel like i can melt faces in an interview setting, and I plan on sticking around here. hopefully we all get in.
yea. i def would not drop out of a program though, i can tell they hate it and every program seems so tight knit, they would make your life hell.
funding is more stable/guaranteed via the NIH program. some MD/PhDs actually dont fund (ie some spots at Harvard, JHU, BU, etc) and some stipends arent too high (ie a Temple) and some are nonexistent (GWU)
True or false: after the Colts and Chargers, all 6 teams in the NFC are better than the other teams in the AFC?
the interviewer didn't, but i could tell, too. however, I did ask the director and he said i had a good app but the interviewer didn't think i liked iowa that much, and that they had plenty of people who would really like to go there. i guess some places they want more enthusiasm than professional. hopefully i'll have other options, though.did the interviewer tell you that to your face when it was over?

They rejected you? That's just morbidly obese. You will probably get into WashU though since they have a lot of spots.
don't do mstp unless you really like and want to continue doing research. yes, you can do research with an md, but i really wanted the full training in a variety of techniques, which you don't really get with md-research usuallythe money thing makes a lot of sense, but there are so few MSTP spots in the country. i guess my question was more about why MD/PhD in general, money aside.

here are the lines for the WC games this weekend
CIN favored by 3.0 over the NYJ
NWE favored by 3.5 over the BAL
DAL favored by 4.0 over the PHL
ARI favored by 3.0 over the GBP
which game + line to put money on. im thinking the green bay game will be popular but arizona def didnt play seriously last week
i'm sticking with the research because i wouldn't be happy if i wasn't figuring things out (read: trying to figure things out) all the time.
