i wish my school had co-op, schools that have adapted the mandatory 1 semester co-ops have been killing in recruitment last 2 years (in comparison to other schools)
 
if scottie reynolds wins player of the year, i'll jump off a building. i support him representing philly and all, but he isn't that great.

i think john wall is still the favorite

Do you think that the law school application process is comparable to medical school application process in terms of amount of work and emotional distress involved?

no way, every school doesn't even have required interviews. Plus the applicant pool isn't as strong. With no hard set of pre-reqs, they are more likely to have a lot of schlubs that default to applying to law school. Not to say med. school doesn't have any of those, certainly a lot less, though.

I never did one but I like the idea of them. Schools (and I'm talking kindergarten through med school) almost across the board do a poor job of preparing people for the real world.

yea definitely. if you invest your future that deeply in something, its equally as stressful and time consuming.

ask stein or anyone who has a fiance that applied to some other terminal degree
 
Law GPA is a lot lower, LSAT is almost it for admissions.

No pre-reqs, makes GPA not matter as much.

High attrition rate at most law schools.

I say they have it easier, except for the fact they could be 200k in debt and not have a guaranteed job when they graduate. :laugh:

I think med school has a LOT more emotional distress. Although I feel like med school itself is much more enjoyable and a lot less tedious than law school.

my co-ops were definitely worth it. They were why I came to this school. Amazing experiences. Plus, I got paid, which is how I could afford applying to med school to begin with.
 
i think everyone has a my-life-is-harder-than-yours attitude but i don't believe that

people are going into law schools knowing that their field doesn't guarantee a stable job, taking on a $100k loan and they probably have to deal with the top 14 or bust mentality in a similar forum like ours. i don't think anything is easier than anything else. like i said many times, it took me 1000-1200 resume submissions to get 70 job interviews to land 4-5 offers ranging from 30k-80k. i settled on the one that made me happy, which was the one that offered 30k. to me, that was way harder than med school apps because i wanted to know if i could prove myself in the working environment that offers me some responsibilities but i am honestly at the bottom of the barrell. i'm sure many people feel that way about med schools because they put everything in it and i'm sure many people feel that way about law schools

No. Law school doesn't have the laundrey list of requirements and de-facto requirements. The difficulty is different too, if you want to be a lawyer almost anyone can, it's just the top schools that are hard to get into. Of course, it's alot harder to land the big jobs out of small schools to...

Second hand I've been told (by my lawyer) that the average GPAs for even the top law schools don't stack up to med schools but I haven't bothered to look into this myself since I don't really care.

I have wondered if the LSAT is harder than the MCAT though since it's more problem solving based.
 
Reason I bring it up is because I have a friend who was trying to say that he has a clear understanding of why things are worked out in the med school process the way they are because law school app process is basically the same. In my opinion, those two are more like distant cousins than brothers. Besides the thing he was trying to claim was ridiculous.

I understand it is stressful but from everything I have seen-the process itself doesn't require you to jump through multiple hoops like the med school process does. The people I know who are applying basically knew to a certain extent where they will go with their LSAT score.

I don't really care how hard his process is but I don't feel it is accurate or fair to try and apply his understanding of law school admissions to med school admissions.

but you can also make the argument that people going after law school are aware of that and don't put as much pressure on their grades and standardized exams as people in medicine

there is flexibility in taking courses and no pre-reqs - i know that if i didn't have a rubric of what to take, i would have definitely strayed and explored somethings. many of which, might not have been for me and might have caused a bump on my grade or two (and things have) - i think going into law school allows for trial and error to see where you are a fit and it takes a leap of faith because you aren't guaranteed a good life like that of a doctor. the real competition is in the market (which i believe is the way it always should be) and that's pretty stressful - the real successful candidates have to prepare years in ahead to line up a job

no, i've been offered jobs in pharma and outsourcing biotech but i do basic research. it has become a tough market but there's niche companies that you can get into with luck. mergers have definitely made **** tough for chemistry majors to head straight into a glaxo/genentech type firm but there's always boutique biotech firms in places like philadelphia that offer decent rates (that take a lot of searching)
 
One thing I think most law applicants have it way easier than med school applicants is the whole "we don't need extracurriculars 😛" thing. Unless of course, they want the big names.

everyone's aiming for a top14 law school though. its tough, the numbers are something like 30-50% of firms have cut down on recruitment and interviews even at top law schools

I read an article a little while back that said law grads from even Harvard, NYU and Penn can't get big jobs like they used to be guaranteed. That sucks.

yea i met a kid from penn law last summer, he graduated from law school and started working as a bartender cuz he couldn't get a job. he's doing great things (jersey shore quote)
