i agree, i just like i said wish i had more info..i dont even know where to look and reading that 600 page bill just wont do anything for me. Everything just seems so unsure in medicine i feel like im walking into it blindly. I cant see myself doing something else (or honestly with obama and reform i might), i love it and thats that so im pressing on. But if you are 250k in debt, and after everything netting something like 60k well honestly thats not for me with everything that is required. Now if they did something like the UK system where sure money isnt there, but med school is free and hours are more regulated then im down. 100 hour weeks, and giving up 12 years of your life to make 50k isnt exactly what i was thinking. I guess im just not rainbow and sunshine altrusitic like other pre meds...most docs i meet tend to be more realistic and share some of these sentiments.
To me it seems in some ways we are getting the worst of several systems (as far as docs are concerned). We work the horrid long hours and have the residency of the US, but may be headed toward pay like germany lets say. I guess its time to blindly press on and hope **** works out...that or ill just be like every other resident and doc ive met telling stupidly idealisitc pre meds to not do it (while they ignore and still do haha)
I agree with yoda to paycuts are a no no. I dont understand why so many pre meds think its acceptable to have that happen. What other career would be ok with such huge paycuts to it. I know docs are there to help and blah blah rainbow altrusim, but medicine is still a job. And one that requires a much harder longer road then id say near all otehr careers.
