Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
During "hell week", pledges had to live in at the house in this one large room, all 20 of them. Trick was that they could only leave the room to go to class or to fraternity events that they were required to be at. They were fed in the room. Couldn't shower in the room. Oh, and it was BYOS (bring your own shoebox) for the bathroom.

Oh, and they had Rock Me Amadeus playing 8AM - 2AM.

i'm not really sure why anyone would put up with this. then again, i've never really understood the appeal of fraternities or sororities in the first place.

I filed it under "reasons why BBender was a social guy but still didn't rush at a Big Ten School"

ironically, they paid to sign up for that, lol

 of course they did. although, one could argue we have all essentially done the same thing to ourselves for next decade of our lives.

never understood the lore of frats/sorts either.

brotherhood/sisterhood duhhh 🙄

Hey, tara, ksmi, and metallica, have you guys decided what you're doing Thursday? I have a hella busy week, but I'm trying to see if I could squeeze time out to hang with you guys.

If you want me to that is. Lol

i demand a 2014 hangout in caliiiiii 😡

this is classic...just got an email from harvard revisit...

"We look forward to spending time with you over the next few days! The students on our "Myth busters" panel are asking you tell them about any myths/rumors/concerns/nytimes articles/SDN forum threads/scintillating gossip you have heard..."

LOL!

 I had no idea so many people were contending for him! And yeah, I was planning on keeping him...

He is probably a good replacement. He will hit for OK average, but hit a decent number of HRs and if the Giants keep up what they've been doing so far, he'll hit for pretty good RBIs. He will also probably have VERY few errors, maybe like 2-3 the whole season.

The downside: He has been sitting out 2-3 games/week. That may decrease if Whiteside continues to be awful, but it may increase if Buster Posey gets called up this summer. Also, he will not have many walks at all, and is probably the slowest player in the major leagues (and hits 6th), so don't expect a lot of runs.

cuz he's awesome! his bat is hot, he chugs into 3rd base like his life depends on it, and he's amazing behind the plate.

I'm just glad he's not hitting clean up anymore. Hitting 6th is a good spot for him.

Yeah, I was thinking that too...only problem is that I need an excuse to live in student housing. I guess I could take their "pre-matriculation course", but I was really hoping to not have to take classes...meh 😎

...and I know many people probably think "come on, you live in VEGAS"...but really, when you've lived here for 23 years...it gets old (and it's also 120 degrees here in the summer!)

TBH, I would do absolutely nothing the summer before you start. But that's just me.

And by Cali you mean Chicago, right? 😉

i'm pretty sure she meant super-cool upstate ny😛 i know everyone is just dying to come here!

No Cali means Caliiii 🙂 but im willing to come to chicago or NY if i dont end up moving to east coast for med school..

did u check out the summer gathering thread on our fb group?

you guys are set on NOLA?!! im still working on squeezing in a euro trip this summer :xf:

well Alfonso Soriano just cost my starting pitcher 2 runs on what should have been Es. This is why I hate the Cubs.

How do you decide to be a White Sox fan vs a Cubs fan?
I live in Cubs territory, but my dad is a huge baseball guy and grew up on the South Side (Sox land).

Didn't care either way for awhile, but preferred the Sox. Then all the Cubs fans came out of the woodwork when they were "going to the World Series" and started giving me crap even though I cheered for the Cubs because they were Chicago. That's when I decided they were garbage. Sox win the world series two years later, haven't looked back. 😀

Good story. So it's generally a regional thing, then?

I am so impressed with your analysis! I am obviously not putting enough thought behind my fantasy baseball strategy!

Ok ksmi...this is my 101st post! Do I get to be one of the cool people on FB now? 😉

Also, Whiteside has a double and a HR in this game, so they may not feel the need to play Bengie every single day from this point forward. He may get worse again though.

i feel like whiteside is hot and cold. it is nice to give the ol man some rest but we don't need a rusty bengie.

huff is killin me - we needed some speed. insider hr. wow.

:uhno: our tax $ at work.

Library of Congress to House Entire Twitter Archive

The U.S. Library of Congress, which archives many forms of media for their cultural and historical significance, has announced it will keep a digital archive of every public tweet that has been broadcast on Twitter since its inception in March 2006.
It's only appropriate that the initial announcement of this project was given on the Library of Congress' Twitter account (@librarycongress) and was followed up by a Facebook message before the official press release is issued.
Even though tweets, as messages on Twitter are called, can only be 140 characters long, the amount of information to archive is significant. There are 50 million tweets per day and the total number of tweets already number well into the billions.
The Library of Congress plans to focus on the "scholarly and research implications of the acquisition." Certainly the daily thoughts of millions of people worldwide would make an excellent source of sociological information.
Recognizing that the inane tweets will certainly outnumber the significant ones, the Library of Congress plans to highlight the culturally and historically important tweets, such as the first-ever tweet sent by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, President Obama's tweet announcing his win in the 2008 election and a set of tweets that helped a photojournalist get released from prison in Egypt.
This Twitter archive isn't evidence of a new focus for the Library of Congress; it has been collecting and archiving websites and online media for a decade now. The Library of Congress currently houses 167 terabytes (or 167,000 gigabytes - the largest iPod storage is only 64 gigabytes) of information pulled from the Internet during that time.
As the Library's Facebook announcement says, "If you want a place where important historical information in digital form should be preserved for the long haul, we're it!"
