aight, off to the gym. i was looking at my cal earlier and realized that i've been to the gym 18 of the 19 days in april. so sad. i have no life.
😳 dw i was rejected from NP too. i think i scraped by for HST with that letter from my PI since he happened to have a masters through HST![]()
Thank you so, so much for this info... because my father makes quite a bit, but I'm 30 married and we hardly even talk. Yet schools want to know his income info.... so I am VERY glad that even if they deem that he should contribute something, I'm not screwed because he won't. ^^;;You should have access to at least 8500 in sub + 32000 in unsub + remainder in GradPlus direct from fed gov't. Has nothing to do with the school. The only way you wouldn't be eligible is if you personally earned a boatload. Call them up and inquire about this. The school itsel cannot limit the amount you borrow from the gov't, especially since the new law requiring all schools to be direct lenders. No school should have a portion of the CoA uncovered. If it's all loans, it breaks down by subsidized, unsubsidized, an GradPLUS. All from the federal government and all need based, based on your personal EFC w/o parents.
Nothing like that on mine. But they aren't exactly organized very well.
drizzt where did you end up (if you don't mind me asking)?
i'm rooting for you! if you are interested in HST, and if you happen to know any faculty who are affiliated with HST in any way (current faculty, alumni), you should get them to write a letter for you. i think they take letters from their own pretty seriously.
though god hath blessed us with good financial aid offices, he continues to punish us with the harvard registrar. harvard must be the only school where course registration is still done by hand by little old ladies in the registrar's office rather than electronic filing
Hopkins left me with about $20K, and WashU left me with $59K each year with no loans covering them.
I'm at my state school (Wisconsin madison). I wrote about my decision making process a bit on the page before this, some things that played into it were scholarships, really good research opportunity, one of the top programs in my field of choice (radiology), ability to be around my parents who I hadn't seen in awhile, being a little sick of socal where I'd lived pretty much since ug, lots of reasons, I'm happy and have been successful here but I still wonder if it would have been a better idea to go to a top 5 program... I guess we'll see how it plays out in 1.9 years.
i'm flattered my friend, but the hst boat for me has definitely sailed.
probably along with the hms boat and the rest of the 'prestigious' schools.
I'm under the impression that schools calculate their own "family resources/expected contribution" and pretty much ignore the EFC on FAFSA (since, as independent graduate students who [for the most part] don't have jobs, most people have an EFC is 0), so I'm not sure how this would matter?😱
ksmi, this is probably a stupid question, but are you sure you filled out your FAFSA right? The fact that this has happened twice to you makes no sense to me. I'm wondering if your EFC on FAFSA is for some reason based on your parent's income, which should not be the case.
i'm applying, but my hopes are quite low. shot myself in the foot one too many times in undergrad, but we'll see how it goes, i know i have a very nice letter from my HMS PIwell with an attitude like that, surely 😛 why not give it a shot? nothing to lose (except maybe some $$)
you have a 60 or so day window after issuance to just straight up return loans. you can also just pay back the unused principal right away. on the other side of the spectrum, you can get emergency loansfinancial aid is so confusing. what happens when you take out more loans than you end up using? it's hard to gauge living expenses i guess

There's a period where you can return loans and not have to pay interest/fees on it. If it's past that period you can still pay it back but interest will have accrued, or just take out less the next semester.financial aid is so confusing. what happens when you take out more loans than you end up using? it's hard to gauge living expenses i guess

P.S. Got my Vandy finanical aid today. The one positive about all this is that I'm not waiting around for sucky news from so many places still.
i'm guessing theirs was bad too? i got mine today too and it was by far the most loans-heavy package i've received so far
oh! also, ksmi i guess you should hear from washu soon about merit money, one way or another![]()
Sounds like we're in similar situations.Yeah, my FAFSA EFC is 0. All these problems are coming from the fact that my parents have mucho dinero. You wouldn't know it looking at us or how we live, but my family is very well-off, and I was expecting these kind of things to come up. Sucks that I have the upper-mid class financial aid problems without getting the luxury of growing up a rich kid or at least having parents that will pay for med school. It's no question where my frugality comes from.

Not sure what I'm going to do. But hopefully WashU sends some merit money your way and makes this whole discussion irrelevant
i know of two washu scholarships that will likely be turned down by prospectives who will be going to other schools...so your odds are going up! 👍
Yeah, I've heard that too. What would you do if WashU gave you a full scholly?
it seems strange to me that he's on the cover but no longer in college football

Not as strange as what happened a few years ago with the Madden cover. Remember that?
After Favre retired for the first time, they put him on the cover as a Packer. Then when he came out of retirement and got traded to the Jets, they had to re-release the cover to show him in a Jets uniform.
MONDAY, April 19 (HealthDay News) -- There's no evidence of cannibalism at the Donner Party campsite, say researchers who analyzed remains from the site at Alder Creek in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California.
The 84 members of the Donner Party were trapped there by a snowstorm in the winter of 1846-1847, and it has long been alleged that the 47 survivors resorted to cannibalism in order to survive.
However, this latest examination of bones excavated from a hearth at the campsite found no human remains. The bones in the hearth came from cattle, deer, horses and dogs.
The study findings, presented last week at the annual meeting of the American Association of Physical Anthropologists in Albuquerque, N.M., will be published in the July issue of the journal American Antiquity.
Newspapers were primarily responsible for promoting the allegations of cannibalism, which were fiercely denied by the Donner Party survivors.

So, my parents just called out of nowhere and offered to buy me a car. 😱
I filled it out right.

yeah, that's ridiculous to me. we can't use their names, but we can make people who just so happen to look just like them and just so happen to have their exact same capabilities and characteristics in the game. it's purely coincidence!
C A P S CAPSCAPSCAPS!!!a
whaaaaa, how did you manage to do that?
