Good morning! Long time no talk my Chicago friend!
hi!

I just realized I have a bunch of cool new options now that I'm blue. When I post, I can click a box and close the thread 😀
so uncool.
well 10001 is a palindrome
👍

That is crap.
🙁 i bet somebody will pull a sammich next week

Butttttt... you're at 5,000....
at least she kept us all on our toes, thinking about it!

i don't think anyone outside of texas watches texas basketball. SO boring. i'll be watching DWade go up against the celtics...1 on 5. and Durantula/Westbrook vs. Black Mamba.

thank goodness Spurs/Dallas is on NBA TV...i can't even watch it by accident
But... Celtics-Heat is all but over :lame:

Thunder/Lakers will be good, though. I was telling people before the series it would be close, because the Thunder have the best player in that series.

Didn't realize it was on NBATV. That's crap 😡
I'll be watching the Bulls next year. They should be competitive depending on the huge free agent they plan on signing. Freed up a TON of cap space to do it by selling the team down the river a bit ago.
Gotta find somebody to take the money, though...
omg yes the spurs are so boring hateeeeeeee them. No one outside of san antonio cares about them. When they won a few championships, that was like the worst years of the nba.

see above . Im actually really interested in the thunder, i hope they crush the lakers it would be awesome 🙂

ahha ****, didnt realize that. I still stand by what i said f the spurs...i guess im going to get banned now 😛

evidence!

nbafinalsthrough2008.gif

the lowest 3 points (03, 05, 07)? guess which team was playing...yea. exactly.

lol i love this. Its common knowledge the spurs are boring, tim duncan is about exciting as paint drying, and the NBA would break down in tears if they went on a run and it wasnt lebron v kobe.
+pity+

Whatevs. Spurs fans have long been fine with taking the trophies and the whining hand in hand 😛
yo dingy, has there really been no contact from miami since like january or whatever?

im getting ready to withdraw (i have to do so by april 30 for mstp), and i kinda wanna know that everything is legit
When did you decide not to go to Miami?
word

the league has a lot of talent/superstars in the making, they gotta really pull it through now
Truth. Between LeBron, Durant, Howard, Wade, and to a lesser extent Melo, Paul, and Rose, there's a ton of young talent out there right now.
Spurs!! Where ya been?
Actually, ya know, being a med student 🙂
That's not new.
😳 I fail.
Logic final in an hour..

Oh no good. I don't think I'm ready and I very well may fail because of the attendance issues if I don't get over a 93...
Good luck!
i bet somebody will pull a sammich next week
What's pulling a Sammich?

Okay guys and gals, I need your opinion. I'm looking into options for things to do next year if I don't get into medical school (now is the time to start planning for this), and here are a few ideas of things I want to do so far. I want to know what you think all about them.

Note 1: These options are not listed in any particular order.

Note 2: Despite which option I choose, I plan to continue volunteering and shadowing.

Option A) Attempt to get a job as a lab helper/research assistant. However, this is really job-specific as to what I might even qualify for, but I am currently applying for a job at a communication disorder lab, which I do actually qualify for. If I could manage to get a job like this, it would help pay the bills but still give me some more science-y experience and also real world experience.

Option B) Go back to school and finish a science degree. I would be able to finish this in 2 semesters based off of the science courses I've already taken and the fact that I've completed all core subject areas already. It would be a nice way to get a solid scientific foundation to prepare myself for medical school. Alsoif I do this, I would be able to continue the part-time job I had throughout undergrad. This option is also kinda neat because I might be able to continue some of my Speech Communication research as well as do scientific lab research as part of the degree program.

Option C) Apply for City Year or some other one-year full-time community service position. This option would be really nice because I think I would find it particularly fulfilling. Also, these type programs typically do pay a stipend of some sort.

Reason #1 I like cycling days more than running days: I can go on SDN while cycling 😛

i'd go with #1, if you have any undergrad lab experience, that lab is the best bet. however, since landing a job is a total crapshoot, you are gonna have to apply to tons. don't wait to hear back from one job/consistently interview at many and then evaluate your options later if you go wit this path

you could also apply to 1 and 3 at the same time and make a choice

Word on the street here in the Bay is that JaMarcus Russell is up to 300 pounds 😱

Honestly, I'll probably end up applying for 1 and 3 at the same time (right now), and then come June, if nothing's come of it, I'll just sign up for classes for Fall semester.

Now, I still want to know what you all think about the different choices. I mean, not so much in what to do, but rather, the pro's and con's of each one in your personal opinions.

i would do option A or C lstone. from what i remember your gpa is really good so there's no need to take more classes. i don't really think anything will prepare you for med school either, so you might as well do something you want to do in your year off. which do you want to do more? i don't think anything will necessarily "look better" to schools so i'd just do what you prefer and your enthusiasm and interest in your position will come through during interviews and impress them. hopefully you'll get in and this'll all be a moot point though🙂

option A if you can get the job sounds good. if you could just throw in like one volunteering thing (2hrs a week or w/e) that would be nice to padd the app.

option b sounds not so good unless you have a low sci gpa or something. If you have a 3.5+ sci gpa (which i think your gpa is like a 4.0 isnt it?) then i dont see the value in this.

option c - kinda cool but can you deal with no real money/paycheck? I think A > C in this case.

I think which option is best depends on the "Weakness" in your app or percieved one. If you GPA is kinda bothering you, then maybe option b would be great (i.e <3.5). If volunteering/research is your weakness then id go option A as it allows both. Option C i dont see too much value in unless you have a lot of research experience already then in that case if volunteering is the only issue that might be a great thign🙂.

Also bb had a good idea. call the schools and see if they can tell you why you didnt get in. If they say research/volunteering/or anything else, the option you would want to do would likely be chosen for you 🙂.

Now, I still want to know what you all think about the different choices. I mean, not so much in what to do, but rather, the pro's and con's of each one in your personal opinions.

hmm, did you have any luck hearing back from schools on how to improve your app?

I'd go with Option A unless you can find a better paying job. Saving cash or paying down debt before you start school is always a good plan. Alternatively, you could be some kind of ski or beach bum.

i'm not even going to try. that was a MAJOR 5000 fail on my part :smack:

yea i remember your gpa was like 9.4 or something really high, i would def stay out of school

and stoney, i'd go with option A or option C (or apply for both concurrently and see which pans out). i'm assuming your GPA is not a problem so more school wouldn't make you look better. JMO.

i'm pretty sure her main problem was just applying late. she seems like an awesome applicant but i don't think she applied til late summer/early fall if i'm remembering correctly. i'd be willing to bet major $ that she'll get in next cycle (if not this one) just be submitting in june without even adding anything else to her app.

Yeah applying late kills chances like nothing else. It's really THE most important factor in this process.

yea i think so too.

applying asap will probably have u set

Definitely.

You can tell people are catching on, because the number of AMCAS submissions during the first week went up A TON between last year and this year. There will always be the late applicants, though, so applying early (like first day) is a good way to go.

I'm almost positive that 4 of my 6 interviews were obtained mainly by applying early.

yea, esp schools like vandy, pitt, michigan like them earlier than r kelly

This is why I tell people to get their prereqs out of the way early and take the MCAT before your junior year. You don't have to rush with that kind of stuff and you can apply early very easily. You can even retake the MCAT if you screw up.

ah, and that's why i tell people to take their time and take a year or two (or three) off. nothing is rushed and you can apply super early whenever you decide to. to each his/her own.

i realized today i should leave the 3rds out of the chords in the 4 chords song

yes, but i think the 4 chords song sounds best on the piano. need to learn to sing with it though... frustrating.

edit: so your post is a... trainwreck?

Ksmi, you should buy me lunch sometime soon. That would be cool.

😀

Ok, when do you want to go?

Like everyone else, I like A and C. C a bit more because that's more my style, but I think both would be good opportunities. Hopefully, you don't need either though.

ah, and that's why i tell people to take their time and take a year or two (or three) off. nothing is rushed and you can apply super early whenever you decide to. to each his/her own.

Yeah that works, too. Sometimes I wish I would have had options to take time off and do other stuff besides school.

I guess what I mean is that my plan is just for if you want to do med school right after undergrad.

Ok, when do you want to go?

I dunno. Tomorrow or sometime next week (M, T or W) works for me.

is mount sinai like einstein in terms of being kosher? my friend at einstein says that there is a guy at the cafeteria at einstein that checks all outside food brought into make sure that everything is kosher and stuff

Legen - wait for it... dary!

sigh... that show used to be so good.

no no no no. sinai is 100% a secular institution.

Anyone else watching the Spurs close out the Mavs tonight? It should be a brawl.

I'll watch part of it maybe.
