Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yeah i think we're talking about scholarship stuff

...unless ksmi's trying to get a date with the dean of admissions at washu

hormones would be cool if we actually knew some things/mechanisms about them, as it stands so far endo seems like a really long and complex recipe for a soup

i know; i love it. lots of opportunities for interesting (and futile ) research

I'm posting in this thread because NOW I CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

congratulations!

 congrats!

part of me wishes we could tell people that they're free to post in here even if they aren't admitted yet

but then part of me really enjoys people coming in here randomly and feeling like they suddenly belong

agreed. it's cute.

 a GI pretty much saved my life so I would definitely consider that a noble effort, despite the poop talk

ah, the poop talk. that might draw me away from endo in the end. we shall see. i love discussing poop.

...you have less than 5 days to make a decision. now is not the time to worry about being annoying (IMO)

this. call him, ksmi!!!

trying to? she already has a scheduled phone date to talk about very important matters.

you're not a predator unless you get caught, duh..

hmm.. now i'm being sketchy again aren't i...

ahhh. the words poop, love, and noble don't usually get combined into one sentence or thought. love it.

poop is important - good thing for your GI dr!

"Over the years as a cabbie, he says he has seen it all: men hoping to try sex with someone HIV-positive, men getting drugged, beat up and robbed because they thought they could find what they needed on their own."

wtf?!?

Haven't you ever heard of a gift party?

woohoo. will PM you. i'm buggin dee specifically cuz she's the first person to have received it. the premed neurosis tells me she hates it 🙁

i'm intrigued to find out how you hide your sketchiness in your PS 😉

ciello ciello! how are things? i forget, where are you headed this fall?

i love reproductive hormones... but i agree that progesterone is tricky
going to MCW. I'm fairly certain I actually got in to Madison last week - got an email saying "call us if you still want to come here, we still have a spot). It was tough, with my boss continually saying that a name means a lot, and my mom saying that she's read books about research at Madison... but I just liked MCW more. So I'm (fairly certain that I'm) sticking with my gut. I already have a summer rotation scheduled, and it's with someone I cited in my thesis, so I'm excited.

omg my entire document is littered with insert mistakes. have to go back, proof, and change them all back. taking insert button off keyboard...
good idea. just pry it off! I'll help - I like destroying things.

in other news, I just found out that my array study is working brilliantly well, and another lab agreed to do our histo processing for us. huzzah. 🙂

yum cheese and yuck May snow.

ksmi, i say call him!

also, i'm in kind of a weird situation:

-the 12yo i nanny for has her friend over and i can hear them talking. her friend keeps talking about fat she is, how she has rolls on her stomach, etc. this girl is seriously the skinniest 13yo i've ever seen, like sticks and bones. now if it was just that one thing she said i wouldn't be too concerned, but she's over here hanging out all the time and lately i've noticed she hasn't been eating snacks like they usually do and she even refused dinner last week when i was feeing them all pizza. she would only drink some juice and i caught her reading the back of the container looking at the nutritional info. she was also talking about all these things she won't eat anymore because they make her "sick". i asked her what she ate and she said she refuses to eat anything other than mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. it seems like all that behavior would indicate an eating disorder or at least a pre-eating disorder, but i'm not sure if i've watched her enough to know for sure. would you guys say something to her parents or just let it be? her family lives right across the street from me so it'd be easy to talk to them, but also potentially awkward if they got defensive or anything.

and jla ur so cheap! 😛 i saw ur ads, ur selling stuff for like a dollar

congrats ksmi!

and jackson, I say talk to them, also. kids can be pretty good about hiding things (big things, little things, any things) from their parents, and if they don't see that kind of behavior at home they might not know about it. And just in case, it's better to know sooner than later.

I will agree to first approach it lightly - the girl very well could be picking up certain behaviors from other family members. Although, I'm sure you'd approach it well, anyway.

definitely mention it to either your kids' parents or hers -- I'm inclined to say mention it to the other kids' folks, but then you could get a whole "mind your own business" spiel -- that happened to me when I had a kid w/ full on bulemia at summer camp.

you could also have an open dialogue about food choices with her -- if she's saying that all she eats is mashed potatoes and mac n cheese, she's grossly misinformed about nutrition. start a "not eating makes you fat" campaign 😛

ya i think you and bleargh are definitely right. i'll ask my mom for advice since she knows the mom best. i feel so bad for the girl, i've known her since she was a baby and that's awful to think she's struggling with body issues at such a young age🙁

Talked to the dean. He offered me 16K/year. Didn't sound promising that I'd get more. But it's better than what I had before.
👍 take it and run

...well, not run literally. you've probably got enough exercise from p90x today. and running while carrying $16,000 might be difficult.

cool, it's always better to go somewhere where you'll be happy! What did you like about mcw?

LOL if you're talking about those posters, those are my roommate's 🙄 pretty much the only stuff I'm selling is large furniture and appliances (futon, fridge, toaster oven and microwave).

ya i'm not sure about talking to my kids parents, i don't really think they'd want to get into a situation like this. if anything, i might be a big baby and make my mom come talk to them with me since i'm definitely warry of getting the mind your own business attitude. even if they act like that though, at least it might make them start paying to her eating behaviors more. i'd rather them hate me than have this go on for years with no one noticing.

and i actually tried to give her a mini nutrition lesson when she was talking about what she ate...it wasn't well received lol😛 she just kind of laughed it off and said everything else makes her sick. i suppose another option is that she has some kind of intestinal disease (seems unlikely-i dunno what disorder would only allow you to eat mashed potatoes and mac n cheese lol)

why sell when you can just take it across the river? 😕

Looking over my material for finals, I've realized how much I didn't pay attention to this last third of the semester.

Fixed. :meanie:

Congrats, that's awesome! You just made $65,000 on a 5 minute phone call. 👍

jackson, girls that age probably responds better to older, attractive guys. it might be better if you can bring a guy friend along and have him compliment her a lil and talk casually about how he and nobody else likes girls that are all bones.

shiftily shifting the blame onto your roommate, i see :meanie:
