Speaking of roommates...

don't you hate it when you email potential roommates, and they don't respond within 12 hours?! I mean - c'mon people. Aren't you young'ns supposed to be more attached to / dependent on these silly electronic gizmos and techs like emails?
 
I think they say if you test positive for PPD, you will test positive for IFG regardless of if you have TB abs or whatever. I think 😕

That's true. Just figured there was no need to do skin test if you were gonna give blood anyway. They are the same test though.
 
my apartment is going to be $1900 + utilities.

i'm not complaining though because it's amazing for the price. nobody gets that much space in manhattan

1 bedroom but the apartment has lots of space. it has a proper living room with a door.

so it really could easily be a 2 bedroom.

Yea I read this article about a couple living in New York's smallest apartment. It's like 150 square feet and still cost $150+K to purchase. No kitchen. Just like a hot plate.

nyc is so ridic, ive been thinking lately that after med school i might apply to residencies in places that are still relatively decent to live (i.e not the middle of nowhere in the midwest) and live there where my future salary might actually mean something. Doubt id stay in cali, at least not in places like orange county anymore!

having lived in/around NYC for ~14 years; that's a pretty good deal! Yes NYC is really insane like that (that's why I lived in jersey city when I was in the post bacc prog @ Columbia 🙂 )

we used to have a 2BR for $6500 a month in union square.

1900 a month isnt bad, assuming its not in washington heights, or anywhere near the undergrad or med campus of columbia (which isnt very manhattan-esque) except the cultural part of Harlem which has become pretty hip
 
i like living in ghettos, it gives me clout

but yea im def looking for a 3BR/1000 (under 400 a person) in msp. if i buy a place i would hope i can rent out 1-2 BR to cover a goog part of my mortgage

i kno what you mean-compared to my college rent (275/month for a room in an awesome townhouse) everything seems expensive! i'll be paying at least 4x that next year lol

living in jersey city/edgewater is pretty sick. its expensive but the view of nyc >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> probably anything else in life
 
everyone should live in NYC at least for a year during their early lives. if you are 30+ (or not in school) and aren't making 6 figs, it becomes impossible later on

:laugh: that's exactly where it is. yeah lots of people move downtown after first semester or first year. i might do the same. we'll see

+ you need a broker to kinda get a good look into apartments into nyc, so you have to hire one, which is extra $$$

my friend just got a 2BR right in midtown 32 between 2/3rd (which is kinda in an awkward place/not much going on w/n a block radius) for $2600/month. 1000+ sq ft, which is a great deal

If I shared a house/townhouse with several others at a farther distance, it probably would have gone as low as $350-400. But I'm getting a 2 BR with one other person and it's within 10 min walking, so I'm pretty happy with it.

i prefer downtown, ddubs prefers up. nyc has a lot to offer though, i just like downtown (soho/village) area because its just busy


walking in nyc is great. you should get a dog. some of the dog parks are great, except for the animal sex

dang that sounds pretty good for nyc. broker for apt finding lol, sounds like serious business over there.

Loyola, but it's kind of a gyp because theres no on campus housing, walking distance areas are not good to live in, and then charge 150 for parking. While not terrible, I feel like they would be just as well making it a mandatory fee. 🙄

i love dogs but they're so high-maintenance.

cats never have to go for walks and they crap in a box. oh and they clean themselves too. don't have to give them any baths.

I'm actually taking the first floor BR. It has smaller everything, but we decided the rent will be cheaper for that room. Also, it's right next to the kitchen. 😀

I agree. Dogs are also so freaking needy. I really don't want to have to think about getting up early and coming back to my place so that the dog can use the bathroom if I'm going to stay out for the night. Cats are good for a weekend at minimum by themselves.

that could be a bad thing if ur roommate has weird hours(by weird, i mean regular) and cooks all the time

they're also disloyal, but they're fun to pet and so chill, def don't need as much attention as a dog. younger dogs want to play ALL THE TIME and it can be very distracting if you're not immune to sad puppy eyes 🙁
