This is what I intend on driving as a doctor:

I also plan on just living with my rents.

Wow, the Spurs are right back in this.
depends on the specialty, what my "wife" does, and how many kids i have.

IV, did you ever get back on track with your workouts?

hell yea man, i started again last week, after like a month of doing nothing lol

Running about a mile a day, probably will add start doing weights again after the semester ends.

what about you?

also, what is the final verdict? is running bad for your back/knees or is it not?

good job guys 👍

Just skimmed through 3 pages of posts from today. That is the most action this thread has seen in awhile.

well if my wife is successful and can add to the stacks upon stacks i'm not going to complain. just means we can retire sooner.

Running is bad for your knees if you are overweight, but there's no way to really avoid it. There's a book about it called "Born to Run".

I also am trying to get back to running. I do 2.5 miles twice a week right now, hopefully I'll be able to organize my time better in order to run more.

i took the week before last off. this past week i hit it really hard and it's been great. weights for about an hour followed by a half hour of cardio 4 days a week.

we're young. so if you can handle running go for it. if not, feel free to work up to running with lesser intense/impact cardio exercises.

i've heard conflicting things

From some, i've heard that running applies stress on the bones, which causes an increase in osteoblast activity, thus is a positive

but from others, i've heard it's better to stick with the elliptical or bike for cardio

Yeah, my wife can be an 8/10 if she's making 6 figures or something.

I mean realistically, the more my wife makes the better, but more important is that my kids are attractive ya know? A lot will depend on what my wife makes though especially dealing with $100k+ debt and having to buy a house and pay taxes and car insurance and all that stuff that adds up. Especially if I want to join a prestigious country club and smoke stogies all day.

i saw a Harvard PhD give a fascinating lecture about the evolution of running humans. born to run, is right.

haha. i dont really care what my kids look like as long as they have friends, interests, and know who they're daddy is. i know they'll be at least 7's considering i'm their dad and i dont date less than 8s.

Yeah, I feel for the guy who wrote that book. I'm a larger and heavier guy who played high school football and I've always wanted to be a good runner, but my body doesn't really allow me to go on long runs. So I just do what I can.

word. build up to it with elliptical

yeah. running is great for bone density because it is weight bearing. but, over time your joints will wear out. i'm sure you're fine since you were primarily a swimmer. if you're having knee issues try to strengthen your hips and see if that doesnt help.

There it is. I just like the idea of having a trophy wife. Like my friends will come over and my wife will have cooked and they'll sarcastically say, "this food is delicious" and I'll know that they know she's a trophy wife.

Plus my dad one time told me, "You won't be happy in life if you don't marry a trophy wife" and my mom just nodded and agreed and then went to the kitchen and failed miserably at making spaghetti.

yeah, if elliptical is easier, just go with elliptical. in fact, I think i might even switch over.

i know people who say 'running is more natural' so you should do that, but that kind of reasoning is useless. Who runs around in daily life, cardio these days is basically to stay in shape.

I actually don't lose as much weight with elliptical for some reason. I definitely lose weight when running and I'm not like obese or anything but am just what would be known as a bigger build, but I actually lose muscle weight and that is what I want.

hahaha you are cracking me up.

i mean she's got to be nice to look, but she has to have skills in certain areas... kitchen (not being sexist, i just expect someone to have equal kitchen skills to mine), maternal, bedroom, humor, intelligence, etc.

humans had to run to stay alive the last 5 million years. I think that would be "natural".
natural running is not worth it if you are sacrificing your joints and you're in pain. that's why these other forms of cardio have been developed.

dingy posted this in 2014, i think it deserves a spot in this conversation:

lift and run/elliptical/bike/swim whatever and you'll keep your muscle, probably add more. and you'll get your BF% down, which is the goal anyway.

curbye is gonna kill you
you know that right? lol

trophy wives must come with a prenup. I am not killing myself getting into/through med school to pay for someone elses luxurious lifestyle.

My wife has to be hot, able to carry a conversation, be good with kids, and have at least some ambition. I need an independant woman too.

See, I come from a middle eastern household where literally my mom does everything around the house other than the handy work and my dad just brings in the ca$h. Although my mom makes six-figs. But the reality is that my mom cooks (she's not the greatest, but she gets the job done), does the laundry, cleans, designs the house, goes shopping for groceries, etc. I want my wife to continue in that tradition. It's like everyone has their place in the household.

Which is why some recommend running on grass or beaches instead of concrete and machines.

Yeah man.. I wanna lose weight, but def. not muscle. I started running for the first time recently. I can do 2 miles pretty good, albeit at kinda a slow pace. The big bummer is that I lost strength over this crappy stress-semester that I just had. Gotta get that back. Goal this summer is to cut down to 180-185 and then build back up to ~195 of muscle. The cutting should take 1 month the building 3 or so. Gonna be a sexy mother * for md interviews 😉

you're not going to find this kind of woman these days

at least not in the USA

im with you rhino

curbs, shouldn't be too mad. those expectations of a life partner are not that unreasonable.

I stopped lifting after I tore my rotator cuff while benching. I got up to 285 freshman year of college and tore it. I tried benching a couple months ago and was too scared to do anything more than 200 and I think I'm just done with lifting for now and want to focus on leaning out. I'll get back to lifting when I'm satisfied with my weight loss.

you guys all crack me up.

Relationships aren't about setting up a checklist for you to get all your favorite things out of a person.

Get ready for a life of misery with that attitude.

Yeah my right shoulder is on shaky ground, so I try to take it easy on the poor guy these days. Sucks cuz my frame is such that I look better bulked.

I weigh like 230 and I think I am at like 16-18% body fat or somewhere around there. I would like to be 200 lbs and 11-12% body fat.

I've dated 2 girls that I think would've made amazing wives. Both of them were caucasian. It just depends on how the girl was brought up and the way her mom was.

you "bigger" guys should P90x it

i'm a pretty big guy, but from the way you guys are talking it sounds like you're bigger than me.

Flowrate, I also have pretty weak joints - I've been lifting since beginning of soph year of college pretty consistently. i'm definitely not bulked or anything, but as long as you take it systematically (not overloading, within your limits, etc.) you should be okay to still lift, if you are careful

definitely stretch, warm up, all of that though
we just gotta take a few more precautions than the average guy

haha it must sound that way... but I've already got all that so I realized those were things I wanted b/c of my current gf.

or just get beastly! haha

I've had shoulder problems forever. I dislocated it senior year during a football game and didn't go to the doctors because I didn't want to stop playing football and didn't want to miss the baseball season. When I dislocated it, my coach hit it with a clipboard and popped it back in place. It kept popping out during the game and I had my o-line hit it back in. After that it stopped coming out as often, but I definitely made it worse by pitching my senior year (even though I threw harder than ever that year). I haven't had any problems recently and I just want to keep it that way.

i mean a checklist is a bad way to approach a relationship, but everyone has expectations of what they want in a significant other.
