Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is everyone here already graduated? I'm having major senioritis on the quarter system right now. I'm not done until next week.

I'm on the quarter sytem too. Finals next week. Since I had a gap year I decided to do a bunch of independent research and take a few random classes. I have 2 classes left to graduate.

I was going to apply to western health sciences (DO) but I just don't have the energy to fill out aacomas. The anesthesia doc working with me tonight is a DO and he is a cool azz dude. He said he made sure to have a great time in undergrad and he still ended up doing his residency at JHU.
yeah, that's why i'm not completely regretful because i'm confident i'll still end up where i want to be. it'll work itself out.

rhino, you could pretty much just cut and paste from AMCAS... but i feel you.

I mean, girls can be crazy. On that point I agree. At the same time, sometimes guys are out of line. Example: don't break up with someone when you know they're on their way to visit a sick friend in the hospital. Really? That couldn't wait?

Hmm... soo many options.

Alright, I really need to stop. Tomorrow is not looking good at this rate.

This remided me of Tony Romo dumping Jessica Simpson on her birthday

Not that you sound like you need any encouragement, but I have taken a pretty round about path to make it here and I can confidently tell you that if you want it bad enough and are willing to put in the work then everything will work out just fine. At my work we have several DO's and at least 1 doc from the carribean, they are all in competitive specialties: anesthesia, orthopedics, & general surgery. Patients & nurses have no clue what the difference is, and they are all amazing doctors. Only pre-meds ever seem to discuss this DO vs. MD junk.

I think it would be more worth it if I intended to apply to more than 1 or 2 schools. The 2 I am the most interested in are western & pcom. My MD list is already plenty lengthy.

So how the hell does the class of 2014 have so many posts? Do more people start posting in this thread as the application cycle progresses? Otherwise, I'm going to need to spam like no other for us to catch up.

I don't know. Partially that we don't have as many active posters as them. I can't even follow their threads.

I feel like list comparisons are always in order.

Alright, time to get my ass in bed for a nap.

Goodnight, we'll have to compare tomorrow.

weird. my page wasn't updating so i thought all of you left. silly internetzz

i think 2014ers signed a contract that they had to have the thread on their mobile device and post at least 50 times week each to keep their acceptances.

We need to do some active recruitment.
haha you and baller are all about the recruitment. if we can keep this thread stress free and fun i think we'll attract posters. people coming in here complaining and bumming people out is a major buzzkill. that's what the rest of sdn is for.

Pledging not recruiting

very wise

this might be entirely stupid, but is anyone thinking of asking a peer to write a letter of character for them?

I dont think a letter from a peer would do any good. Somewhere LizzyM said that adcoms prefer not to read letters from your friends/peers. I responded that it makes way more sense to have LORs form professors that know you for a semester versus someone who may have known you your whole life. Now I understand how so many douchebags got accepted. Adcoms do some dumb ****.

and its June 1st y'all. let the games begin!!! 😎

🙂xf:and hopefully a good day for GMomma and Ballerboy :xf:)

yeah. i can see why its useless, but i was also thinking that the more perspectives they can see of you, perhaps, the better. i made sure to have at least one female recommender for that reason.

I dont think its useless. At the very least its not any more useless than a regurgitated obligatory LOR from a professor who you took one class from and aced (which is already clearly visible on your transcript).

I'm guessing they say no personal letters because a bunch of people would be submitting the most ridiculous letters from all sorts of people. I suppose if you could find a way for your peer to write a professional LOR with some intriguing insight, it may be considered.

luckily, all of my letters are from multiple classes and or outside class experiences too.

edit: i mean my relationship with each letter writer.

Okay guys, today's the day!

1. What's your final school list?

2. Are you going to submit today? If not, when do you think you'll be ready?

3. How are you feeling right now?

1. Penn, Jeff, Temple, Drexel and PCOM. That's it. *gulp*

2. I will not be ready today. I have to finish entering my work/activities, and I need my transcript from friggin' NYU (idiots), and my advisor needs to get back to me about my composite letter that still isn't in interfolio, despite the fact that he had all the letters for it at the end of April. Hopefully I can submit by the end of the week.

3. Annoyed mostly, between NYU and my advisor. Pull your shiz together and get it done. God! And anxious for my MCAT score more than I am to submit. This is it, folks!

3. How are you feeling right now?
1. I don't think my list is final because I'm planning on adding a couple more schools after a new MCAT score.

2. I'm submitting today. OH YEAHHH!!! I've waited for this for a long time now.

3. Feeling good, feeling great. Feeling great, feeling good. Should probably sleep though. Everyone smile! You made it to submitting this monstrosity of years of work.

3. How are you feeling right now?
1. Pretty much all of them (Texas/MD/DO and a few international)

2. Submitting today....but not taking MCAT until mid July 🙂thumbdown).

3. I feel sleepy. I'd like to go to bed but once I get off work (8), I have to quick feed my fish, make my man lunch, drive to another town (~45 miles), attend calc class, attend math lab for help, walk my dogs, and then NAP!!!

I'm satisfied with my PS. I'd like to think that its unique and unusual, but I'm guessing after ~50k apps are submitted each year, any adcom member who has been around a few years will have read multiple statements with similar themes....and I have a feeling a few (or all) adcoms are gonna say, "hey, it sounds like you are a really good nurse and you really enjoy your work. you should stick to that. 👍"

haha. hopefully, they say "hoody, is the bomb! she would make a super good doc. we gotta scoop her up!"

1. My allopathic list includes in-state schools and a few others for now. Osteopathic includes my alma matter, MSU (GO GREEN!), CCOM, AZCOM and PCOM. The list will grow when I can better gauge my MCAT, which isn't until July :X

2. I'm definitely submitting today. Once I can better predict my MCAT, I'll probably triple to quadruple the list of schools I have right now (I've got 5 right now).

3. I'm absolutely exhausted right now. I spent an extra few hours, which I didn't intend on spending, reading over my application and making sure it was as perfect as it will be. I just drank a giant cup of coffee and can't wait for it to kick in.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

You have some great stats. Im worried that if you have a killer MCAT, you might be rejected from Jeff, Temple and Drexel because they will think that they are your safety schools. That leaves Penn and PCOM. Honestly, i think you're a great fit for Penn and I am betting you get in there....however, I think you are going to need some serious justification for applying to PCOM as your stats are way out of DO range. They possibly might reject you on the same grounds as the schools I mentioned earlier. So that only leaves Penn. I wish you could apply to more schools, but I know you can't. I dont think I have to tell you that you will need to reiterate to these schools that uprooting your family is not an option and that you are applying to very few schools and all in the PA area. Also, you might need to BS a little about wanting to learn OMM in your PCOM app.

I dunno. I shouldn't scare you. sorry.

I wish! The dream is Jeff or Penn. And that worries me, too, though more for Drexel than anywhere else because it gets used as a safety a lot.

I've read about/asked about this same concern in a thread or two here, and the general consensus was that you will get a chance to explain my interest in the school in the secondary. If I explain that I want, more than anything, to stay in Philly because of family obligations, it should be okay.

Yes. I've checked out a few secondaries and you are right....and I definitely think you are smart/savvy enough to spin this in your favor. You've got your bases covered, so I shouldn't worry you and I *do* think you will be fine.

there's no point in guessing. it's out of your control.

Its not really about guessing.

When I have no control over something really big, I try to break it down into smaller parts that I still cant necessarily control, but maybe something that I can spin in one direction or the other. I am a big believer that you are in control of your own destiny. GMomma's got to spin her secondaries right.

I need to stop getting so serious up in here. mmmmkay? its easy mmmmkay.

1. I'm really lazy to list my schools since I'm a hurry, so I'll point you to the mdapps.

2. I need a) money and b) to read through everything again with a fine tooth comb. Once I'm certain I don't sound like a serial killer, I'll submit it. Even though my transcripts haven't arrived yet...

3. I'm tired, cranky, and hungry. But it's time for orientation for work, so I'm also dressed up and ready to go. 🙂

:luck: everyone! It's our turn. Let's try to keep the stress in 2015 to a minimum.

1. Have an idea but will be finalized after everything else is done.

2. Still working on PS. Hopefully no later than 6/15

3. Not enough sleep.

1.) too many to list... will do it later.

2.) I will submit today

3.) I'm excited mostly. Feels like the beginning of something great. I am also extremely tired b/c I went to work yesterday at 4:00 pm and just got home. I'm going to crash out for a couple hours before I goto class.

Hi guys. So I just finished my app last night and am waiting for AMCAS to open.
Any ideas when it will open?😕

Just submitted my app. 2015 #1

1. Like whim, I'll just point to MDApps =)

2. Submitting sometime today. Putting a few finishing touches on the PS after a good night of my brain working on it while I sleep.

3. A little worried about how "top heavy" my list is. Otherwise excited.

I'm really hoping you do as well on the real thing as you did on your ptests... then you can go to a Philly school and chiillllll =)

Just submitted my app. 2015 #1

BALLER STATUS!!!!

You and me both, man!

I've had two dreams about getting a 39 (I think I had another one last night) also had a dream that was my score about 2 and a half years ago. We'll see in probably about 5 hours.

Ksmi had a few dreams about getting a 40....and then she did....so, I think good things are to follow!!!!

🙂Good Luck everyone! I just submitted my appliation right now...
So now onto secondaries!

Best of luck to those who are taking their MCAT this summer!🙂

gl! 🙂 Dont worry about the whole safety issue. Drexel interviews a ton of kids and many with high stats (their secondary wont allow you to say why you are interested though). All you'd have to do is at an interview explain the nature of your interest. Jefferson asks "If there is any additional information you would like to provide please include it in the box below. (500 character limit)." Temple asks you to explain the nature of your interest in the school on their secondary so with both of those it would be easy to write im interested because of these bs reasons, oh yah i have a spouse and kid and cant leave philly so take me yo! 😛

No idea about pcom but if you do as well as you think you did on the mcat, i doubt that would even be an option for you.

It takes a few days for the LOR to show up on amcas after sending from interfolio. I estimate ~2-3 days, but it seems like things are taking longer as they get backed up.

I'd also like to know if there are schools that require LOR with the primary.
AMCAS has stated that my application is ready for verification with LORs. I strongly think (probably 99% sure) that you don't need your LORs until you submit your secondary. I can't imagine that most people have everything in place in terms of that right now so close to the end of school.

Off, off and away. Primary has been submitted. GL all!
