Hey guys! I got my UWashington secondary! For questions schools ask you that are optional, you can give additional information if you want, is it negative if you don't write anything?

From what I've read for most schools, optional definitely means optional. It doesn't hurt you to not fill it out. Many people have gotten interviews/accepted w/o filling out optional essays for other schools. You might want to delve through the U Wash 2009-2010 thread to see what people say.

IMO, if it says optional, then it's optional. Write something if you think it would be worthwhile for the adcoms to read. But if you don't have anything crucial to add that you think would help them see your character/motivation for medicine, I don't think they want to waste time reading it.
 
Hmmm, I'll see if there's anything for me to write about. I'm getting negative comments from my friends regarding my photo for secondaries. I just slapped on the picture from my visa that I took a year ago, cause I figure they just need to know what I look like. But some said I look prudish, and others said it sends out an "uptight vibe". Let's hope adcoms don't think that as well, I figure the photo is the least of my concerns.

depends on the school and how its worded. in genereal if you have anything useful add it. If not well you cant force what isnt there so leave it be. Theres no hard and fast rule for questions like this.

I keep telling myself I want to get a tattoo... something very small and simple, but I can't really think of what. It also needs to be somewhere inconspicuous. I've actually thought about my feet for that reason.

I kinda had one idea where I'd get something small to represent each of my kids. Chicklet's room is butterfly themed, and she LOVES butterflies (fluh-fly!), some maybe something like this or this for her. I dunno.

Does the status on your AMCAS main page change from "Ready for review" to "under review" when they start looking at your stuff? Or do you just get a "verified" status once they've finished?

I'm still lurking, but my summer classes are brutal. I've been using my SDN time to complete secondaries instead. I have four submitted, 1 I'm editing, and 3 waiting to be filled out. It is starting to get hard to keep up with this thread too.

Shout out to all the peeps! msb, cougs, whimsical, missb, baller, flow, geeks!! all the new people! ... everyone I forgot! :laugh:

got hopkins secondary yesterday, first school i've seen that manifestly proclaims legacy section doesn't affect admissions.. still made me feel like a boss to finally fill a legacy section out tho 😀

all will be notified via email you never have to guess or constantly check. Though some schools are very slow in doing this so it can be best to check your status. Schools last year that come to mind on this are UCI and temple. You dont have to anxiously check like 30 schools sites per day though trust me they come and you wont miss out on an interview.

I'm not a legacy anywhere, so those sections always leave me feeling a little sad.

those 2 schools interview near everyone with 38+ mcats and 3.8+ gpas no worries youll be there soon 😛
 
I kinda have legacy at Jeff. My mom graduated from their nursing school in the late 70s. Supposedly, that counts. My dad also went to Drexel but didn't finish his degree, so that one probably doesn't.

Hey guys, how long were you actually "Under Review" for? Supposedly all my transcripts are okay now, and I've been under review since yesterday between 4 and 5.

I was under review for 2 days, even with only one school and one transcript.
 
Right now, I am very excited for the weekend, a.k.a. 2 straight days when no one will receive any secondaries and I can slowly catch up on the ones I have without feeling like I'm getting left in the dust

I wanted that to be awful. And honestly, the first 5 seconds were. Then the next 90 seconds were silly. Then the 3 minutes after that were mesmerizing. And after that....its just freakin' hilarious.

my parents conveinently left out the fact that they are leaving for the beach tomorrow. thanks mom and dad, you're right, i couldn't use a vacation! i'm sure i'm welcome to go, but between work and MCAT retake its just not gonna happen. luckily, i got a secondary paid for because my credit card is starting to squeal.

I've already had to pay off my credit card balance twice this month so that I don't hit the limit. lol.

And...it's lunchtime right now. Everyone else where I work is Chinese, and every day at lunch their food smells absolutely mouthwatering. I'm sitting here, typing and breaking the tenth commandment as I covet their delicious meals.

Oh my god....I LOVE the people at AMCAS!!!

I had to call them again today and every time I call I tell them how nice they are (because they are) and how much I appreciate them (because I do) and that I can only imagine what they go through. And today I said "Yeah, I can only imagine what kind of crazies you get" and he said "Most people are really nice like you but every once in awhile there is a wacko". When we were ending the call he asked if there was anything else they could do for me and I said "Yeah, when you write a book about the crazies I want a copy" and he was like "I'm already on Chapter 4....it's coming soon".

Love them.

Also, yesterday, someone had to go use a different computer to look up what I needed, and since it was after closing when she finally got the info, she called me FROM HER CELL PHONE to answer my question.


Those people are wonderful. I think i need to write a kind letter.
