Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
this is the secondary fee we are talking about, right?

Yep

Boo. No secondaries after getting verified today. I'm not expecting any this weekend or Monday, but I was hoping I'd get one today to start futzing with. Ah well.

You'll probably get pitt and penn by monday afternoon =)

Just finished watching SYTYCD from Wednesday. I only have 3 words.

Alex.
Freakin'.
Wong.

Everyone at the gym knows I have an Alex Wong fetish.

It continues.

Me too. I voted for him twice last week. 😛

I'm banned from the DC area. For life, I think.

This sounds like a story waiting to happen...

Also, ugh this "Why Pritzker?" essay is killing me. I know what I want to write but it's not coming out so great.

I'm taking a super straightforward approach to most secondaries, so I'm just gonna say why I like pritzker. i have some friends who to go UChi undergrad who can fill me in a little extra if I don't want to submit immediately.

Yeah, I think I'm getting tripped up talking about my own experiences and how I "fit" there, especially since I've addressed many of my significant experiences already. I feel like I might just be burnt out. I marathon-wrote a lot of secondaries this week and I have a little writers' block. I might just copy and paste everything I wrote for Pitt everywhere - clearly that worked for me. 😛

Pritzker's one of my top choices, and I feel like that's getting to me because I hear "fit" is important to them.

Oh well, push through and move on.

Fit is very important to UChicago in general. To get into undergrad you need to be... eccentric is the best way I can put it.

 I know exactly what you mean, and we'll leave it at that. Never know who's watching....

I've only had it for a few hours but it is AWESOME!

ATM, I'm mostly stoked about the awesome camera, because our Canon Powershot took a crap a few weeks ago, and the fact that I can finally listen to the radio at work now with it! My work web filter blocks all streaming media websites and I don't get any reception with a radio (but I get service on the phone). I can't listen to my coworker loop the Coyote Ugly soundtrack anymore!

I am SO happy we can take pictures of Chicklet again!

New profile pic on FB is the first pic we took of her with them. She is FINALLY letting me pull her hair back!

Sorry to de-rail the thread again with my snacking obsessions, but I just got home for the weekend and my parents were throwing a dinner party. Guess what's getting served as hors d'oeuvres? .....Gouda cheese and TJ's crackers. I win. 🙂

French is so weird.

I hereby rename them ORDURRVS.

But on the topic of food, I've been experimenting in the kitchen a little this summer. Tonight, I attempted garlic chicken pizza with roma tomatoes, mushrooms, basil, and fresh garlic. I'd never made pizza before, but it was so easy...and tasty too!

I concur. Dude, i take french and still had to google the word to make sure. lol

Actually, probably take out that last R, I think I'd still have to google it to make sure there were two. haha

I'm looking forward to cooking. In short, I've been living with my whole family but I'll be living with just my brother for the second half of this summer. Gonna finally have total control of my diet. Probably lose some extra fat because of it =)

The first time I saw the french spelling I thought "***** doovers?"

Haha I'd love to! When we have our party to celebrate our med school acceptances, I'll make us an array of pizza and (thank you flowrate) ORDURRVS. 🙂

I think were not getting any more secondaries until after the weekend. What a relief.

some will send on a saturday, its rare but a few schools seem to operate on this day. They are few though...thought i would just add to the paranoia here😛

I'm with you. When I was little I always thought it was "****** devours"
😀

BTW, anyone else decide to write less than the recommended maximum for stuff? Pritzker says 550/400 for their essays, but I'm only writing like 400/300, because I just don't have 10 million more words to add.

I wrote 450/350. Damn, that took forever. It was painful.

are you guys also doing the optional--anything eeeeeeeeeeeelse you'd like us to know?

I know I prob should, but.....

Eh maybe. If they don't ask for a diversity essay, I'll probably paste mine in there lol.

That makes me feel a little calmer lol. I just today realized that I have like 8? secondaries to do. Ugh.
Seriously painful tho.. fff...

Sometimes I feel like using my creative writing skills, and being like..."well nothing more about me, but once upon a time..."

Anyone else sick to death of secondaries??? I'm just so tired of explaining myself, and with each one I'm getting less and less sure of whether I'm cut out for this/have the right experiences. This application process really sucks to be honest. I kind of just want to say straightforward thoughts, but I feel a pressure to conform and say things I think adcoms want to hear...I think that's the worst part.

I def feel ya. And it's hard to come up with new, meaningful anecdotes not previously mentioned in the primary....

I'm trying my best to remain straightforward and honest throughout these secondaries. Most importantly, I'm also staying consistent. For example, I talked about one of my passions on my "why I like pritzker" essay, but I also mentioned it on my "coping strategies" essay, because it's applicable to both. =) I think that shows adcomms that you're not just bsing.. I hope?

If I had creative writing skills, I'd use 'em, why don't you? =P

I wish I could. However, every time I attempt it, I get feedback along the lines of , "med school adcoms don't want to be entertained, they want you to just get to the point."
I don't know about you guys, but if I were on an admissions committee, I wouldn't mind a little entertainment now and then. 😎

I guess most people (myself included) assume that adcomms see SO MANY essays that they're just trying to gain pertinent information from each essay and don't want to be entertained; they want to go home!

Oh no, I totally understand. I just meant once in a great while, I could see it being kind of fun to get a personal statement showing a sense of humor. Otherwise, I feel it would make the long day of reading apps so much longer....

About to submit my fourth secondary and start work on my fifth =). You?

lol, I envy you. I am waiting for my school's premed committee to interview me. I hate this premed committee bs...

I'm so glad we don't have a committee letter. Sounds like another huge hoopblock to jump through. I'd probably not use it even if my school had one.
problem is a lot of schools require you to get a committe letter if its offered. And if you dont you either cant apply or they ask you to write an explanation as to why you did not use its services. It can be a pain but you are somewhat stuck with getting one if your college uses it.

That's true, I guess I'll just be glad I don't have to deal with either of those realities. My school actually doesn't even have a premed advisor anymore  Stupid significant budget cuts.

Same exact thing happened at my school. Maybe we go to the same school. 😀

lol same at mine but i think thats more a widespread UC thing😛 (from your location im guessing you go to a UC).

Ah, well that would make sense. nvm haha  Our premed adviser actually went back to serving on the adcom at Stanford, so I thought we were the only forsaken ones. lol

As for random question:

What is your favorite thing (food item) to snack on?

Mine: Gouda cheese on those Trader Joe's pepper crackers.

Anyone had TJs pub cheese? SO GOOD. But my favorite thing is probably chocolate chips. Or cereal. Sugary, unhealthy cereal.

mr. pibb + red vines = crazy delicious

Lazy Sunday! And actually, Magnolia DOES have the best buttercream frosting recipe. 😍

My thoughts exactly

Just found an email address to reach my LOR writer and get them to resubmit on letterhead w/ signautre :woot: moving forward
