Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Tomorrow, I'm going to wear the pink bow tie my dad bought me... because tomorrow seems like a bow tie kind of day.

sounds like a second date with the girl from the asian bakery 😉

we're just hanging with a bunch of derm folks tonight, that's all. bring on the ortho!
Pfft. 🙄

I'm actually kinda interested in ortho, but wrists... I dunno. But what I'm much more interested in...

Poor kid was passing meconium in there. I used to be able to watch these vids with no problem. Couldn't at all for awhile after I had my kid (she was a C-section, poot). I'm getting better again.

c-section is truly the gnarliest thing ever. the one i observed, they flipped the uterus out of the body to clean it out, and damn, that's gross. one's organs should not be floppin about outside

Watched half of the video because youtube was loading too slowly with my internetz. I think I'm cool with any type of surgery except the eyes and possibly the nose, but I think I've gotten over the latter.
I just hate when they do rhinoplasties and they whip out that little chisel and break the nose... :barf:

I've always wanted to learn how to tie a bowtie, but whenever I mess around with the ones in the men's department, the employees look at me funny because I wrinkled their stuff.

ACDF or on the back? Were you able to see much?

L4-L5 and L5-S1 2 level fusion

L4-L5 1 level fusion

Both were posterior approach.

I saw everything. I was standing at the table.

I FELT that, man. You are numb but you still feel them doing stuff to you, like when you're at the dentist.

They pulled her out and I seriously felt something else land on my stomach. It was either my placenta, or they were systematically flopping things out to make sure they weren't nicked or something. I also felt them restuff me, which kinda started to hurt.

summer before senior year of high school i went to some medical conference or whatever (summer camp for closet nerds) and we had to watch a natural childbirth from start to finish on a giant projector and the professor would stop the video at the most disgusting times and say "isn't that beautiful!"... i knew i'd never want to do ob/gyn from that point

yea. disgusting (no offense). as gross as live birth is, it's DEFINITELY the way to go. no doubt. none.

I would totally think it was beautiful, too.

Live birth? You mean vaginal birth? You're preaching to the choir man, my delivery sucked. I'm hopefully VBACing the next one.

And I know it was disgusting, trust me. Freaked me the hell right out of town.

C-sections are so amazing! Not sure about the background music on that video, though...You know my love for ob/gyn geekchick 🙂 The baby always looks like an alien with its head poppin out and everything and then the doctors are like yanking on it.

Which is why *gasp* I'm going to see a nurse-midwife when I'm pregnant again.

I know, I know... I'm a traitor, but the one I want to see has a great rep.

The thing about neurosurgery is that the surgical sites are always so damn small so unless you're standing next to the doctor, it's hard to see anything. A craniotomy, however, is super sweet.

I lol'd at this.

Ah, went on one with her a while back. Dunno how it's going. My lack of time anymore makes it hard to follow up with gals I like.

I've always wanted to learn how to tie a bowtie, but whenever I mess around with the ones in the men's department, the employees look at me funny because I wrinkled their stuff.

"Just like your shoes" is relatively true. There are lots of good vids on the tubes about it, too.

No, CNMs deliver in hospitals (as well as birth centers and can attend homebirths). The hospital where this one delivers has tubs, too. And I THINK they have telemetry fetal monitoring so if I have to be on continuous I don't have to be stuck in the bed like I was last time. 👍

That said, I hadn't ruled out the thought of an HBAC, especially since I live within 10 minutes of two hospitals with maternity wards. I just am not sure if I'll want an epidural next time (though if I do, it'll be later than I got with kiddo #1).

Technically, it was an orthopedic spine surgery, but yeah the trouble with viewing in this instance was that the doc was like 6'3 so the table was at perfect level for him and i was trying to see down into the opening at an angle, instead of directly over.

😱 the risk factors!!!! at least 3 ob's just had aneurysms.

After they get all cleaned up and bundled in the blanket, I think they're pretty damn adorable in a funny-looking kind of way.

The ob/gyn I shadowed had a midwife for all 2 or 3 of her children. I think it's fine as long as everything is under control, which isn't the case with freebirthing.

IndianV, you gotta keep up if 2015 wants any chance of being somewhat like 2014.

if time seems to be the issue the truth of the matter is you probably dont REALLY like her

Yeah, i'm here, i just don't know how to enter a conversation of child-birthing.

You're about as (if not less) likely to need a stat C-section for a uterine rupture as you are for a cord prolapse, placental abruption, or a fetal heartrate crash, which can happen in any labor. I've got one, low transverse incision that was closed with double layer suturing, am already past the most conservative limits of "safe" interdelivery interval. My chances for true, catastrophic uterine rupture are pretty damn low.

All that said, I'll deliver in a hospital next time. It's just something I considered.

I realized that the three official friends I have on SDN are all 2015. And that I am the 2014er with the most posts on this thread cuz I'm a cool cat oh yeahhhh.

its because you're supposed to be in 2015, jeez. face it already and defer.

Yeah, i'm here, i just don't know how to enter a conversation of child-birthing.

 Fair enough. Maybe it'll impress the ladies if you know about this stuff because then you'll seem all interested in their well-being and such.

I'll still hang out with guys, though. 🙂

that's the funniest thing i've heard all day lol

I'm going to go up to the next girl i'm interested in , and tell her i'm interested in impregnating her, but not to worry, cause i'm an ace at birthing.

i'm sure she'll call the cops haha

Dammit! How did I end up staying up this late again. I have to be up in 4 hours. FML.

G'night!

Ja Ja ich auch.
