I'll be very honest - No, America is by FAR in better shape than India. The thing with India is that it is a country of two people - the educated and the impoverished. One half is advancing at the cost of the other half.
Corruption is rampant, and people are greedy. The reason why the US is the most powerful country in the world in my mind is our community-based approach. When something bad happens, people come together to improve the common good. If someone dies in an alcohol-related car crash, a volunteer-based organization will usually be formed that aims to prevent such incidents in the future. But, in India, sadly this attitude isn't there. It's really tragic that 'slumdogs' go through so much, yet the government doesn't care in the least for their plight. This can be said for most Asian countries as a whole.
So, yeah, I think there's no doubt why Asian people in general desperately seek to come to America. With that being said though, India is still a great place. Trust me, if you are going there as a tourist, you'll be treated like royalty. If you are have money -living conditions in India are FAR better than here, it's just the infrastructure isn't where it should be.
