is this the logical extension of the 1/30 mcat thread? someone earlier today suggested that the thread was dead, but i figure this is the place to be.

Pretty much when people started dropping the date, it had less posts, and people moved over here

i took 1/30, i got the same score as i did the previous 2 mcat exams. im pretty much assured that i wont be retaking the mcat ever again, so re-applying is out of the question. i got accepted to a carib school and you know what? ill go there and start my first year this fall.

after the process my suggestion is everyone who has a average or borderline application should apply to MD schools broadly, include DO and maybe 1-2 carib just to be safe. I really don't see re-applying as a viable option (personal philosophy, I don't really have any argument for those who want to do it again).

My two cents.

Yea, thats my plan. I think it would be hard to get the stamina to reapply 🙁

I agree. That's why I waited a year to apply and will be throwing my dice this coming cycle and hoping for the best. I'm just hoping my MCAT will be enough to keep me from retaking.

never plan on retaking, i always thought it was my last. i chose to re-test after the facts. of course i wound up with the same score within a 2 point range and so i have effectively wasted money and time. however, i had a year to do it and so i dont think i sold my soul down the river.

re-applying - that is selling yourself, and i just dont recommend it for a long drawn out process like medicine. i had a good friend who went from a sub par candidate who got zero accepts to going to near-ivy medical school after the re-apply but i just think it was sensible for him. id never do it.

i have nothing against the carib. but i don't think i'd be willing to take that risk with all of the uncertainty in medicine as it is and with more US schools opening.

i respect your decision rama and i am hoping for the best for you.

yeah don't follow me, down the spiral haha. I am a nut and so I really don't encourage anyone to actually follow through with what I chose. It has to be a personal choice and one that makes viable sense for ya. Thanks for the wishes and I have expounded on my sentiments about the Carib in a thread about Ross prior to leaving. If anyone was interested in seeing what my logic was, where I thought good/bad about the decision I made.

I wish all of you guys do a heck of a lot better than me!

correct me if i'm wrong, you were in india for a wedding right? how was it?

india was a mystical and beautiful journey. i had a few weddings to attend and they were mostly family and wonderful - i spent a lot of time in mumbai just kind of observing the economy and the way things worked. i went to goa, delhi, amritsar and mumbai and liked all of them. mumbai was my top pick for where i would live if someone told me i had to leave new york right now.

Indian weddings sound like crazy fun. Lots of music, dancing, just having a good time.

haha not when everyones nagging you about when YOURS is happening.

You're lucky, I've never left the country, let alone even traveled much inside it

That was a new record, studied 3 hrs straight without getting distracted even once.

I'm on the path to enlightenment, friends.

I sorta have mixed feelings about India right now. I *just* watched slumdog (I know, way late to the game). But I guess America is just as bad eh?

What about half a distraction? Like you're almost distracted but then you realize that and so you pull back and so it's not really a full distraction.

I'll be very honest - No, America is by FAR in better shape than India. The thing with India is that it is a country of two people - the educated and the impoverished. One half is advancing at the cost of the other half.

Corruption is rampant, and people are greedy. The reason why the US is the most powerful country in the world in my mind is our community-based approach. When something bad happens, people come together to improve the common good. If someone dies in an alcohol-related car crash, a volunteer-based organization will usually be formed that aims to prevent such incidents in the future. But, in India, sadly this attitude isn't there. It's really tragic that 'slumdogs' go through so much, yet the government doesn't care in the least for their plight. This can be said for most Asian countries as a whole.

So, yeah, I think there's no doubt why Asian people in general desperately seek to come to America. With that being said though, India is still a great place. Trust me, if you are going there as a tourist, you'll be treated like royalty. If you are have money -living conditions in India are FAR better than here, it's just the infrastructure isn't where it should be.

lol That's interesting, never thought of it like that. I like that feeling though, it's like when you're working out, and it starts to hurt, but then you keep going. It just makes you stronger. 👍

Workin on my research poster...ugh school starts back tomorrow 🙁

👍

Any time you go to a less developed country as a tourist, they know you have money and they desperately need the money. Whatever you give them might not be a lot to you, but it makes a huge difference to them.

Spring break over already? That's a definite boooo.

Mhm, our school must be one of a few that has the earliest spring breaks. I have soooo much to do, but again, cruise on friday 😀

it's frigid here, snow is everywhere, and your spring break is over. That's ironic lol

Cruise! I've never been on one, but the prices are pretty cheap for a few leaving from around here and I've got some free time this summer.

You'll have to tell us how it is. 🙂

I'm on spring break now - I was so happy when I went outside today and it was 60 degrees. 😀

Sorry about all that snow...
