Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I haven't really followed college basketball much this year, but I decided to make two brackets. One will be srsly and the picks will be based on the little that I know (if past years when I actually knew a lot are any indication, this bracket will perform horribly). I'm gonna fill out the second bracket using this and see if it performs any better

MARCH-MADNESS-GIRLS.jpg

Haha, I love this. I'm usually pretty into college basketball (for an icky cooties-ridden GIRL anyway) so my brackets are usually pretty well-thought out for the most part, but for the schools I've never really heard of or don't know much about, I usually just pick whichever: a) I know someone who attended there, b) I know someone who lives in the school's state, or c) sounds most ferocious. Winner.

When i was little we played like 50 different versions of tag...one of them was cootie tag...I'm still unclear as to how it was any different than regular tag, except for maybe that it felt grosser to be tagged 😕

toilet tag was pretty kewl

Umm, I definitely played that in elementary school. But we called it toilet monster.

I'm so excited for the new album next Tuesday!!!!! But they're streaming it on their site now after it got leaked yesterday online. But I'll wait to support them, since they are my favorite band of all time and one of my musical inspirations.... oh and this isn't mentioning the perfect sound track to a night in the Lower East Side or East Village.

Wanted to share it with ya'll.

Sweet, thanks Shanks!

Also Happy St. Patty's Day! :luck: (That clover isn't for luck, it's for some happy Irish festiveness.)

Because it is...JK 🙂 I won't let anyone in on what you think hot is.
With your definition of the perfect man, I think you might have a better chance of finding and taming a unicorn Cougs
Waitlisted 🙁
luke_NOOOOOO.jpg

I'm sorry Sun, that really sucks 🙁 I know you want a real acceptance as much as I do!

Well, guess I'm joining you guys in the royal flush of the application process.... post-interview rejection. That was totally unexpected.

Waitlisted 🙁

🙁 sorry, man

IKR? It's like... has the ground stopped shaking at ALL?

539 earthquakes in less than a week? :scared:

Well, guess I'm joining you guys in the royal flush of the application process.... post-interview rejection. That was totally unexpected.

Just terrible. I'm expecting one of those myself since the school started calling late last night and I haven't heard from them. Just e-mailed them because I am apparently a glutton for punishment.

Yeah, I love too how they send me the rejection e-mail and then within the same hour reply with thanks to the update letter I sent them the other day.

Thanks, guys. I would be lying if I didn't say I'm bummed out since they would have been my top pick if everything worked out. Oh well. And now I feel bad about the interview I had this week because I was there on lack of sleep with a cold and in general felt like it was one of my weaker ones. And I thought the one that turned into the rejection was one of my stronger performances. Who knows.

That's such a bummer Shanks 🙁 I know how much you liked that school too. I think this process falls under the category of "cruel and unusual punishment" and therefore ought to be illegal.

no offense guys, but who cares about the earthquakes? radiation is supposed to hit California in about 5 days right?

great empathy!
I was trying to be a little serious...

last time I said something about radiation and iodine, I got attacked for pAn!c!ing!!!111!!, but I'm a little confused as to why no one cares about the radiation. maybe its just because people around me are concerned. or maybe its cause ignorance is bliss?

thats good to know...but I don't trust LA times anymore than I trust Faux News. I'm getting my information from BBC, NPR, Amy Goodman and Demorcacy Now (all of whom were reporting damage to the first plant at least a day before other "news" sources).

I feel bad for the people ino Japan (I have family there, some of whom I have been unable to contact) but I am most concernced about the radiation. Damage from the earthquake is fixable. A wide variety of body and blood cancers, and uninhabitable land for hundreds of thousands of years is not as fixable.

perhaps this is too heavy for the class thread. I don't want to get all melodramatic in here..

I am hungry, and I need to fix it. The stomach belongs to a older twenty something lady. She has a condition, its called bitch, I have never seen it before. She is hungry, and I need to fix it

not the same statements.

also, the damage to the reactors was earthquake damage.

missing your point...

Yes, Hoody cares more about the radiation than she does the earthquakes. Hoody also doenst understand why no one else is worried about the radiation, probably why she is asking (ZOMG!!!)

ZOMG AGAIN!!!111!!!!one!!!!eleventy!!!!1. She is going to make a horrible doctor!!!11!!!one!!!! She has no empathy!!!111one!!!eleventy!!!!

😱

I imagine people in Japan care a little bit about the earthquakes, no? Or do they not count as people because they're not in America? 🙄

Seriously? wow, just wow. Thanks for twisting my words and making me a racists. perhaps I wouldn't care if you got radiation poisoning after all. 😕

Obviously I care about people in Japan and feel bad about the earthquake. but does someone also not need to care about the radiation spread and about the people it will affect as soon as it leaves Japan (i.e. California, or if the wind dramatically changes, China, etc..)?

Perhaps you guys just know very little about radiation? My guess is that the people living there are EXTREMELY worried about the radiation, just as much so or MORE THAN the earthquake itself. They understand that their house can be rebuilt. They also understand that their house wont matter if they are dead in a year from radiation poisoning.

like I was saying....ignorance is bliss...

Despite all of my time on SDN, I am way more worried about people being horrible humans than horrible doctors. 🙁
you make this statement because I say that I am more in fear of the damage from radiation than I am from the earthquake?

maybe Wyoming is being streamed completely different news than the rest of the world because it seems like the only people that could care less about the radiation is SDN -- thats why I inquired.

Geez. 🙄🙄🙄🙄

No. I made the statement purely because of your statement about not caring about earthquakes.

Not caring about earthquakes and caring about radiation are two separate issues. They don't need to be confused. In fact, I think humans should be fully capable of caring about both, in equal magnitude, but for different reasons.

I get it. Radiation is bad. Be afraid. Talk about it. Go for it. For the eternally panicked, it is even better than an earthquake because if you are lucky not to be at ground zero, you can see it coming.

My issue is that, as a human, yes, you should have a sense of self preservation. But you should also be able to look across the water at some human suffering, and be able to say something that is not "no offense guys, but who cares about the earthquakes". The fact that you prefaced it with "no offense" means that you either knew it would cause offense (for a reason) or had an inkling that you shouldn't say it, but aid it anyway.

You can be afraid for yourself, and sad for someone else at the same time.

And by the way....this is not just property damage. Though if you have had devastating property damage, you would know it is no small thing either. Please remember that thousands of people have died, and hundreds more are missing.

Hoody, a lot of nuclear experts have said that the radiation from the situation in Japan is very unlikely to affect California. If any were to be on its way based on predicted patterns, we would have about 5 days to react to it. I live in SoCal and that's why I'm not worried--because I'm not going to buy into this irrational mass panic spurred by the media reports. I'll trust REAL scientists and NOT what I hear on the news.

http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2011/03/16/experts-u-s-wont-feel-health-effects-from-japan/?hpt=Sbin

That being said, Cougs and I both live near a nuclear power plant that is susceptible to damage when an earthquake with a magnitude greater than 7.0 strikes....I think she and I should be the ones worried, if anything. But we're not, largely because the likelihood of radiation poisoning at the present time from California's nuclear power plants or Japan's plants is negligible.

You know why people are going out to buy KI pills? Because it brings in $$ to the pharmacies and drug companies...no one is going to go out of their way to say "hey, stop buying these useless drugs...it's a waste of money!"--the farthest they're going is "it is UNNECESSARY to purchase these drugs".

Sorry to hear about the news guys! 🙁

No. I made the statement purely because of your statement about not caring about earthquakes.
Sorry, I phrased my sentence wrong. I don't take kindly to being accused of being racists. All peeps are equal in my book. This earthquake could have been ANYWHERE in the world and I would still be in fear of the radiation/nuclear crisis.

I agree. And I care about both. I guess the point I was making was that it seems like most people generally care about the quake more.
I get it. Radiation is bad. Be afraid. Talk about it. Go for it. For the eternally panicked, it is even better than an earthquake because if you are lucky not to be at ground zero, you can see it coming.
I did try to talk about. And just like today, it didn't go well. I get the point. I wont talk about radiation in this thread. But I disagree, I wouldn't call radiation << an earthquake. I wouldn't call earthquake >> radiation. both are bad...although earthquakes end and radiation kinda hangs around.

I said 'no offense' because I brought up radiation once and was blown off. I should have said "no offense, but I don't know why everyone is only focusing on the earthquake" instead of "no offense, who cares about the earthquake."
Please remember that thousands of people have died, and hundreds more are missing.
Right, like I was saying. I have family missing.....

I personally don't mind you bringing up radiation in this thread--as long as there's some scientific evidence behind it...

There is no real reason for panic.

I cant embed them either. even though people have explained.

sorry, you trying to rip on me failed. maybe next time?
rip on you? I'm just trying to educate your backwoods ass.

American is a race now?
that's how I interpreted her post, yeah. I think she is accusing me of not caring about people in Japan because they are Japanese and because they don't live in America. Is that not part of the definition of racism?

here. we can end this:

you guys >> me.

happy now?
