Hey-there-youre-cute-Wanna-make-out.jpg

Lol. My catch phrase is taking off.

....top!

*writes in notepad* likes to be on top...

Speaking of notes ( I know it's a stretch)...has anyone made a decision on a PC for medschool since the last discussion ended?

I'm curious what everyone is going with after shopping around.

I have a perfectly serviceable laptop and shouldn't be spending more money on things I really don't need. 🙁

Same, but the thought of having something a little smaller/more portable to take to and from school is appealing. Also, I wonder how much it costs to have a backspace key reattached...

Just get everything right the first time. 😉

I currently have a 3 year old ThinkPad T61 that is in great shape--recently replaced the HDD because I wanted peace of mind it wouldn't fail later on in its lifecycle and something with greater capacity. 🙂

For those who play WOW, I'm starting a new guild for medical-field people called The Valium Knights. If you're interested in joining, it's on the "Llane" Realm. Pm "Foshadowfax" or "Pneumo" for more infomation.

Any Mac fiends out there? Do they plan to release a new Mac Air anytime before school starts? I want to make sure I don't get jacked.

I'm all man, baby!

😡

Don't know if I've ever expressed my love for Lebron James here before but I feel the need to do so now. He is, without a doubt, one of the greatest to ever play the game and the epitome of sportsmanship. His athletic ability is simply limitless.

Please enjoy this short vid showcasing the joy that is Lebron.

you must be trippin if you think lebron can even be in the same PARAGRAPH as the best. he plays like hes still playing highschool football, he lowers his shoulder and runs into the lane like a battling ram.....GARBAGEEEEE

not to mention Delonte West did his mom. 'nuff said

I haven't heard any rumors to suggest a refresh coming up, but the usual strategy for back-to-school folks should always be to wait until the summer for the back-to-school season... if nothing else, Apple will have some specials going on (probably the usual buy a mac, get an iPod type of thing).

I hate to say that I'm kinda sad about this one. Pony was just such a great troll; he/she will be missed.

That a lot of nerd streams getting crossed right there. I'm getting a little worried about cats and dogs sleeping together seeing a WoW post, in the C/o 2015 thread, in the PA forum on SDN.

Too much nerd streams sounds like a bad idea... don't cross the streams!

Also, I'm liking the new sig Pons.

Edit: And I'll see you (Pons) and Daisy tomorrow at Second Look, yes?

One of toff4l's other "established accounts."

UES, although he's been sticking to the unmoderated underbelly of sdn, as he appears to know what's "good" for him.

Also, I saw someone today with a post count of 5, whose 5th post clearly indicated a level of sdn experience of someone who has been on the boards for more than 5 posts. We'll see where that goes.

I'd strongly recommend a regular macbook over an air if you go that route...

I already have a MacBook. It's too heavy...I'm sick of lugging it to class. No more.

Also....I've decided to crash the Pons Julie Daisy Second Look day. I'll see you guys in the morning😉

My husband has worked for Mac for almost 6 years, but they don't really tell them much, and none of it can be disclosed to the public. However, I don't believe an upgrade rollout is slated until around October. I think it's been said that the June hoo-ha is 100% software related this year. No new iphone either. I'd look for all the stuff not long after we start as MS1s.

The air is super popular, but I've never really liked it. I have a 15" MBP (read: overkill) that I just bought for med school. I really enjoyed my black 13" for the past 4 years, and it's hard to get used to this 15" because it feels humongous, however, it has nice gfx, and I'm a sucker for that 😛

Pretty much anything you buy tech-wise you will be screwed over in at most the next 6 months. 😛

LoL, is it the bigger ones? 15"/17". I found the 13" quite nice and light. Easy to stick in any bag and just go. I'm getting an ipad + noterize for lectures. My laptop will likely stay on my desk.

I'll be there! I'm excited to meet the two of you 🙂

I know you two are going to have fun, but I will regretfully not be in attendance 🙁 Since you both are local AFAIK, we should meet up at some point however. Enjoy!

EDIT: Cougs as well 🙂 Am I the only man in SoCal?

Second Look in SoCal today? Hope it's far enough away from el presidente's route...he effed up my commute to work this morning.

Just pasta and garlic bread. No meat because it's Good Friday. I also already went pregopotamus on a container full of shrimp with lobster sauce for lunch so I'm not feeling hungry enough to get any more ambitious than that.

I just had a huge plate of chilaquiles for lunch, so I don't really want to even think about dinner right now...but my friend is making pasta with peppers, onions, and TJ's soy chorizo, and I'm making s'mores cookies 😀 Mmmm.

Hey class of 2015, I posted this in the class of 2016 thread but thought I'd post here to see if you guys could help me

HUGE DILEMMA:

Ok so my committee writes letters in three batches. The way they do it is they have three review groups June, September and October. Each "review group" has a certain MCAT cutoff date you must meet to be eligible for that group. I moved my MCAT from the end of April to the end of May, MISSING the June review group and placing me in the September review group meaning I won't be complete til god knows when....what should I do?! This is ridiculously frustrating, I don't wanna rush my MCAT but this is going to SCREW me, should I abandon the committee letter and submit individual letters instead? I know this isn't recommended but idk what to do......who's got any ideas?

Here, broski: (ETA: I wouldn't rush your MCAT)

When does your committee have the letter done?

Here is the deal. You can submit to AMCAS without having the letters. You can be complete and verified with AMCAS without the letters. The only thing you CAN'T do without the letters is be complete at the individual schools. But here is the thing; the timeline is such that it shouldn't matter that much for several reasons.

1 - anyone else who has a committee letter is in the same boat.
2 - even if you submit in June, you probably won't have all of your secondaries in your hands until at least mid July, maybe later. I was completely verified in June, had my app sent to all schools on June 25th, and still got secondaries as late as 8/10/2010 (Darn Oregon!). Harvard didn't send me one until 7/29/10. So then, you complete the secondary, and turn it in. Even if your letter isn't done until August 1st, it will get there pretty quickly.
3 - a lot of schools will begin reviewing your app without it. Iowa, Duke, Vanderbilt.....there are several.

My school didn't have a committee, so I can't speak to this, but hopefully some other people will chime in. Basically...there is still plenty for you to do besides worry about the committee letter.

No. AMCAS will not hold your application waiting for the letters. Hence this being one of the few parts of your application you can alter after submission.

You want the letters ready to go at about the time you send in your secondary to that schools so that each school will consider you complete.

Ideally, you want the letters ASAP so you don't have to worry about them. If you had them all by July 1st, you'd still be way ahead of the game. Even August 1st is pretty darn good for most schools.

The letters, once designated to a school, are AUTOMATICALLY sent.

So, you could do a few things. you could have the letters sent to AMCAS but not designate them to any schools. Or you could have them designated only to certain schools. Or to all schools. This is something you manually do. Just creating the letter in AMCAS (getting a letter ID) and having the letter sent to AMCAS does NOT assign it to a school.

Yes. What Frazier said🙂
It is a pain, but seriously, you don't want your letter kicked back for no signature. It happened to me and a friend of mine at BU.

Also, you can have them mail the letter in.

I know this all sounds complicated guys, but once you see the app, it really isn't that bad. Truly.

My best advice:
1 - Do not assign a letter to a particular school until AMCAS actually has received the letter. I had a superflous letter writer totally disappear on me, and had to retract a letter from a couple of schools. Super annoying.
2 - Use Interfolio, it is awesome and delivery is almost instantaneous to AMCAS. Pay for the 2 year subscription so that halfway through the cycle when you're panicking (like most of us do), this isn't one more thing for you to worry about.

You want to view it all in context go here:

Ok bottom line: abandon the committee letter and take the interfolio route?

First, I would wait to see what responses you get from other people...you'll probably want more than just my opinion.

What I would do in your situation, which is not necessarily the best idea (but doesn't seem like the worst), is go the interfolio route, making sure to have the requisite mix of science/non-science etc. and meet all of the schools' LOR requirements.

When the committee letter is done in September (or later), send it as an update to the schools were you're still in the running.

If you are asked along the way why you didn't use your committee letter, you can say that you are using it...it's just still in process and will be sent when it is ready.

MZ's idea sounds interesting, but I'd want to see what people who have served on adcoms think first before executing that plan.

thanks for the responses guys, mz your plan sounds straight.....best idea I have so far..if anyone else can chime in that'd be great.

My school suddenly changed the date they expect to provide us our financial aid awards from mid-April to early June. Sheesh... I was already anxious without them pushing the date back.

Laaaaame! I met Julie, and I was staring down every bearded guy in attendance. Then the cream of the crop went to happy hour together. I like my school already.
