I hate you too! Orientation is mid August for us, I get about 10 days for winter break (23 Dec to 02 Jan), inclusive....most schools get longer than that, I think...only plus side is we get Rosh Hashanah off (2 days end of Sep) 😛

I've heard that before, and the hubby said the same thing last week. There are a few things I may want to try but I'm not going up there more than once. We might even get one plate of stuff to sample together and that's it.

If you end up liking that one, have you been to Picanha? It's in North Philly (not a terribly bad part), but it's seriously amazing. You're not going to find a better Brazilian steakhouse unless you're going up to Churrascaria Plataforma in NYC. And it's super cheap.

I know there's one around Castor Gardens that's more NE Philly that North, but I forget the name of it. I heard Na'Brasa was freakin' awesome from a bunch of people, though, and it's definitely the closest to us.

I have the exact same winter break - suuucks. At least it's a break though - being in the working world for two Christmases has taught me any break at all longer than Christmas Eve and Day is spectacular!

Hmm, I thought I was the only one who was shafted out of a long winter break! Thankfully not! 😛

My white coast is sometime in mid August, the Thursday before school starts on 21 or 22 August. I don't reallly know the dates off the top of my head. It'll be my parents' first time in NYC lol...hopefully they don't die. 😛

Soooo, where are you guys headed this fall?! Anyone in the Chicago area? I ended up deciding on UIC; our orientation starts on Aug. 9 (I think), with the White Coat Ceremony a few days later and classes starting a day or two after that.

Hey guys, just had a great idea for a massive thread that would be a HUGE help to new SDNers and also cut down on even more crappy pre-allo posts. I need help compiling it all together and I was hoping some of you could help me.

Also, I went to an awesome party last night hosted by my club's board members, and I met this great guy who reallly really seemed gay/into me...like I left the party to drive my friend back to her place and I said I'd be coming back, and he offered to "keep me company"--and he had no idea who I was since we had just met. He also just sounded/acted totally like it, and my friend and her good gaydar texted me afterward just to tell me "he is totally a MO..or in the closet!"....at the end of the night, I found out he had a girlfriend.

Yup, I've talked to avoidthetiger on the FB group. And Nick's sig kinda gives it away! There are a bunch of others from SDN who are attending UIC as well, but I don't think they post as often of SDN. I was just curious regarding those who post in this thread, is all. 🙂

Trying to figure out what I'm gonna do if I get off of a WL. I'm already starting to make housing plans and bought an f-ing ridiculously expensive plane ticket to go to "housing weekend." Talking to potential classmates about rooming (in a mansion woot woot). Once I start putting work and money into something, I don't like to waste it all lol. mmm, I think I've just misrepresented myself here, and let me say sorry for giving unsolicited feedback in the first place. I didn't mean to sound critical, especially having no details about the situation. I'm more or less just thinking out loud.

My gut tells me that a guy showing up with flowers has no idea if his ejection was final or some sort of revocable false start. I've been something like the guy with the flowers before; I'd rather be the exploding plane. That's just my preference, but first of all I'm weird and secondly it's not my place to speak for the awkward turtle in your own scenario.

Having been on both ends of drawn-out, unclear, or seemingly hasty breakups, I've ended up in favor of clarity, decisiveness, and honesty (not hostility or blatant disregard, which I think is what came across before). I don't respond well to attempts to spare my feelings, filibuster, or any type of beating around the bush. Consequently, if I have bad news for someone I'm very deliberate about my delivery and I tend not to garnish it. I'm still searching for the happy medium between touchy-feely and blunt.
