Time for a more srs topic: I bought my first console since the GameCube (a 360) yesterday, and now I will take one suggestion for a game to buy. I bought Final Fantasy 13 and Halo: Reach along with the console, but I think I need one more to get my real jollies going. I thought about getting Fallout: LV and Bioshock 2, but didn't. Kinda wanna get COD Black Ops, but it was a bit pricey.
Suggestions?
Black Ops is the only shooter you need, although when the new CoD game comes out this Nov, lots of people will stop playing Black Ops. I'd recommend picking up Modern Warfare 2 if you want to get familiar with the CoD family for cheap, while still having what I understand is still a viable community.
What kind of games do you usually like? I would suggest the first games in either the Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed series. They are my favorites. The first games are 4 years old so you can get them for cheap now, too.
The AC games are good, but IMO they don't hold a candle to the Mass Effect series, so I would recommend ME first. Albeit, AC is a far different type of game--it just gets REALLY repetitive. I'm playing through Dragon Age Origins right now and if you (Nick) want bang for your buck, man is this game long.
I'm not sure. I haven't played console games in years (obviously) and only played party type games with my friends, so I'm not even sure what I like. I like shooters, but if I just have 8000 shooters I think I'll get bored.
Assassin's Creed looked interesting when one of my friends used to play it. I kinda want to get a more adventuring type game; I was thinking maybe Assassin's Creed or Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, since I've heard both games are pretty decent.
As far as prices, yeah, that's definitely one great thing about buying the console so late. Best Buy had a whole shelving unit dedicated to 360 games (many of which were well-known, not crap like "Princess Ariel's Grand Adventure") for $20.
I realized the other day that 50% of my games are shooters and 90% are violent. It actually really disappointed me, because I'm not always interested in killing people or blowing things up. I do have Forza 3 (4 coming out in Nov), which is a fantastic racing game tho. I have a few other racing games which I wouldn't recommend as highly.
I have Oblivion on the PC but I couldn't really get into it. It was SO open-world I couldn't decide what to start with at all. That and, IIRC, I kept accidentally stealing things by hitting the wrong control and having townspeople attack me. Not fun. :-( Maybe one day I'll dust it off and try it again.
I actually didn't play AC1, just watched the hubster play a lot of it. I did play AC2 and we just bought Brotherhood, the third game in the series (we eventually want to buy all of them, so I'll play the first one myself when we do). I really like the storyline/mythos of those games; I think it's really interesting. I'm also a big fan of RPGs, especially Bioware games, so I'm obviously very partial to Mass Effect. Both of the releases for those games that are coming out this year have me really excited, too.
Bioshock is really good too but it's another one I didn't play myself, just watched the hubs play it. I may rent it again to play myself, though. I just don't really like FPS games. The PoV makes me feel claustrophobic.
I have never played Bioshock, although I hear it's great. I prefer games with vibrant color palates and relatively uplifting themes. The whole dark and dingy aspect of bioshock doesn't appeal to me, similar to how the desert landscape of fallout really turned me off (even though the game is fantastic). But that's just me, it amounts to the emotional aspects of purchasing games.
Halo: Reach is a good game. I would recommend playing that and then going through the rest of the halo games in order (maybe playing ODST after halo 2? 3? I forget which).
GTA IV is a fantastic game. Purchase it, including the expansion packs (for like $40, you will get at least 100 hours of fun).
I'll post up more stuff when I remember.
Fable is good, but if you're looking at bang-for-buck, I might look elsewhere first. I love the series, but each game is only about 10 hours to beat the storyline (at most) and another 10-20 hours to do most of the sidequests, money objectives, etc. Definitely play through the first fable if you're going to get into the series. You should be able to pick it up for super cheap and it's a GREAT game (albeit still short, but it's really cheap now, Xbox original right?)
