Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Time for a more srs topic: I bought my first console since the GameCube (a 360) yesterday, and now I will take one suggestion for a game to buy. I bought Final Fantasy 13 and Halo: Reach along with the console, but I think I need one more to get my real jollies going. I thought about getting Fallout: LV and Bioshock 2, but didn't. Kinda wanna get COD Black Ops, but it was a bit pricey.

Suggestions?

What kind of games do you usually like? I would suggest the first games in either the Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed series. They are my favorites. The first games are 4 years old so you can get them for cheap now, too.

I'm not sure. I haven't played console games in years (obviously) and only played party type games with my friends, so I'm not even sure what I like. I like shooters, but if I just have 8000 shooters I think I'll get bored.

Assassin's Creed looked interesting when one of my friends used to play it. I kinda want to get a more adventuring type game; I was thinking maybe Assassin's Creed or Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, since I've heard both games are pretty decent.

As far as prices, yeah, that's definitely one great thing about buying the console so late. Best Buy had a whole shelving unit dedicated to 360 games (many of which were well-known, not crap like "Princess Ariel's Grand Adventure") for $20.

I have Oblivion on the PC but I couldn't really get into it. It was SO open-world I couldn't decide what to start with at all. That and, IIRC, I kept accidentally stealing things by hitting the wrong control and having townspeople attack me. Not fun. :-( Maybe one day I'll dust it off and try it again.

I actually didn't play AC1, just watched the hubster play a lot of it. I did play AC2 and we just bought Brotherhood, the third game in the series (we eventually want to buy all of them, so I'll play the first one myself when we do). I really like the storyline/mythos of those games; I think it's really interesting. I'm also a big fan of RPGs, especially Bioware games, so I'm obviously very partial to Mass Effect. Both of the releases for those games that are coming out this year have me really excited, too.

Bioshock is really good too but it's another one I didn't play myself, just watched the hubs play it. I may rent it again to play myself, though. I just don't really like FPS games. The PoV makes me feel claustrophobic.

- The 'Fable' series is fantastic (RPG)
- Call me childish, but I enjoy anything in the Lego series (Completionist)
- Assassin's creed, after one installment you'll get the gist, no need to buy all three (RPG)
- Army of Two (FPS)
- Mass Effect (RPG/TPS)
- The God of War series (RPG / Hack 'n Slash)
- Left 4 Dead (Zombie FPS)
- Halo Wars (Basically a Halo rip-off console version of Starcraft)

... those are just a few off the top of my head

I have been wanting to try Fable. A few things though.

I would not call Assassin's Creed an RPG, seeing as you have no roleplay ability in it. It's an action-adventure game, for sure, and it focuses on stealth and open world.
Mass Effect is absolutely an RPG, and your choices carry over into the second and forthcoming third games. It's also a third person shooter, not first.

Speaking of Left 4 Dead, we have Dead Rising. The ways in which you can kill zombies is hilarious at times. Like with the auger.

Halo is by far my favorite, but never underestimate the greatness of the kinect for drunk games with friends. Disclaimer: people will fall into walls and tables, so its best to move things far away from where you're playing.

Good points. As you can see, I threw that post up in a hurry 😛

Scrolling through Netflix with the Xbox 360...

Chicklet: I wanna watch the ladybug.
Me: Huh?
Chicklet: The ladybug.
Me, looking at the things we just went past: I have no idea what you mean, honey. Show me.
Chicklet, points: The ladybug. I wanna watch the ladybug.
Me: Oh, honey... no, that's not a ladybug, that's a cat named Stimpy. And no, we can't watch that show.

Well... some of the episodes might be age-appropriate.

Awesome, thanks for input. I didn't realize Mass Effect was a RPG. I thought it was a FPS.

I think I'll probably go with AC or Oblivion. Probably whichever is cheaper.

I saw Fable 2 as well in the $20 pile. I remember hearing stuff about it, but I didn't go for it. Is it worth a $20 investigation?

Ren and Stimpy aren't good influences for the children? 😕😕😕

Absolutely. The series was one of the first 'choose your fate' type of games. There's a good mix of mission objectives (for completionists), hack 'n slash (for button mashers), real-estate + social objectives + equipment upgrades (for grinders), and an interesting plot line. Definitely worth $20.

Well maybe I'll do this instead of Oblivion/AC then. I'll pick it up this week and let you know how it turns out.

Black Ops is the only shooter you need, although when the new CoD game comes out this Nov, lots of people will stop playing Black Ops. I'd recommend picking up Modern Warfare 2 if you want to get familiar with the CoD family for cheap, while still having what I understand is still a viable community.

What kind of games do you usually like? I would suggest the first games in either the Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed series. They are my favorites. The first games are 4 years old so you can get them for cheap now, too.

The AC games are good, but IMO they don't hold a candle to the Mass Effect series, so I would recommend ME first. Albeit, AC is a far different type of game--it just gets REALLY repetitive. I'm playing through Dragon Age Origins right now and if you (Nick) want bang for your buck, man is this game long.

I realized the other day that 50% of my games are shooters and 90% are violent. It actually really disappointed me, because I'm not always interested in killing people or blowing things up. I do have Forza 3 (4 coming out in Nov), which is a fantastic racing game tho. I have a few other racing games which I wouldn't recommend as highly.

I have Oblivion on the PC but I couldn't really get into it. It was SO open-world I couldn't decide what to start with at all. I have never played Bioshock, although I hear it's great. I prefer games with vibrant color palates and relatively uplifting themes. The whole dark and dingy aspect of bioshock doesn't appeal to me, similar to how the desert landscape of fallout really turned me off (even though the game is fantastic). But that's just me, it amounts to the emotional aspects of purchasing games.

Halo: Reach is a good game. I would recommend playing that and then going through the rest of the halo games in order (maybe playing ODST after halo 2? 3? I forget which).

GTA IV is a fantastic game. Purchase it, including the expansion packs (for like $40, you will get at least 100 hours of fun).

I'll post up more stuff when I remember.

Fable is good, but if you're looking at bang-for-buck, I might look elsewhere first. I love the series, but each game is only about 10 hours to beat the storyline (at most) and another 10-20 hours to do most of the sidequests, money objectives, etc. Definitely play through the first fable if you're going to get into the series. You should be able to pick it up for super cheap and it's a GREAT game (albeit still short, but it's really cheap now, Xbox original right?)

Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't a huge fan of ODST. It was a decent game, but IMO it was deceptive of Bungie to call this 'Halo' when it actually had very little to do with the series.

On a related note... DO NOT buy 'Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts' it has nothing to do with the prequels (if you can even call them that). I still regret that decision.

Yeah I actually didn't play through ODST to be honest. I got bored and most games don't hold my attention very long these days.

HALO ODST is the black sheep of the halo shooters. It is incredibly short, overly dark, lacks action, and has a horrible plot and lacks the traditional halo feel to the game. I seriously wouldn't waste you time or money with ODST. The rest of the halo games though, 1-3 and Reach are pretty sweet.

I totally agree.

Nick:
I usually agree with most of IGN's game reviews. Check them out at 360.ign.com . Under their reviews section, you can sort by type of game, rating, and date released. It's a good way to find the excellent games that came out a few years ago.

Silly Flow, I am a Bioware groupie. We have DA:O and the sequel. Granted... I haven't been able to finish a game of DA:O yet. I keep wanting to try new classes and things. I was going to finish it once before school starts and that ain't happening, I'm sure of it. It's also much better for PC than Xbox, too. Mass Effect, on the other hand, HELL yes, and it's definitely a "choose your own fate" game, too.

I remember us discussing that earlier, I just wanted to get it out for Nick 🙂

PS (Nick), buy the Knights of the Old Republic games! They were for the original Xbox but MAN those are my favorite games ever.

I like how I keep calling him nick even though we all know his real name lol.

BTW Flowrate, just saw your YouTube... very cool 👍 How many times have you caught yourself on fire (be honest) 😀

Let's see... I usually wear somewhat makeshift/janky protective clothing (cotton hoody and gloves) when I spin fire, because I value my skin+hands. This is partially because I do "wraps" which is when I change the direction of the fire poi using a part of my body. Most poi spinners don't do this, so they don't have to worry, but the chains get super hot and I've burned myself doing wraps a couple of times.

I once accidentally got fuel all over my gloves and set my hands on fire because of that. This is why I always have a safety person to put me out.

Setting yourself lightly on fire with excess surface fuel is pretty commonplace. I've done that probably 10 times. It goes out quickly or can be patted out real quick.

I've burned my eyebrows, nose hairs (SMELLY FOR DAYS), eyelashes, and arm hairs.

I also set my crotch on fire. I had jeans with fringe on the upper thigh which instantly set ablaze when the flame got nearby. Luckily, it actually burned itself out before injuring anything.

So probably like 14 times on fire. Only twice were potentially serious (if I didn't have a safety person)/clothing fires. 3 burns, lots of burnt hair.

I probably would've stopped after I caught on fire the first time. This is why you are HMS worthy.

^, could you append these as the outtakes on your vid?
Ha, I don't have any of them on video.

you are brave, sir flowrate
Thanks 🙂

Haha. It's really not so bad. Most people don't get seriously injured (safety people ftw), but minor injuries come with the whole playing with fire thing.

I actually prefer glowsticks because I started learning back in my rave days. You can do more trick with them, I think they look "prettier" and there's the whole "they're not in fire" thing, as a bonus. The fire spinning is just extra.. I do it when I'm around other people who spin fire and because I can talk about spinning fire and it sounds way more badass than twirling glowsticks 😉

last time I checked, she had happy things going on in her life that were keeping her busy 🙂👍 and I hope things are still going great...even if that means we see less of her on SDN
Ah yeah, I know she was talking about some good personal stuff. Been silent for a little while, though!

I think I may have a place to live while I hold out hope for getting off of the dorms waitlist! Yay! Right near MGH with a resident 😎 1 mo sublet and by then I'll hopefully have a dorm room... hopefully. Haha.

Of course first thing I do is go on SDN 😀

EDIT: Ahhh how appropriate for the top of the page... This deserves a celebration!
