just reading about ob/gyn stuff makes me squeamish. it always has and i dont know why, but i do know that i would love to skip that rotation haha.
just a suggestion, but eat something between lunch and dinner. going longer than 5 hours without eating is a killer to your metabolism. 3-4 hours is the desired gap between meals/snacks.
It's funny that you say 4 hours because that's exactly when I get hungry, on the dot. The probably is that I'm in class much of the day and I like eating small meals rather than snacks. Sometimes in previous semesters, I wouldn't have my first real meal until dinner. That was pretty bad.
I have no problems with metabolism now (very fortunately) but it's definitely not going to be like this forever!

its a quick fix though. just like a handful of almonds/walnuts/raisins or a granola bar.
i dont know how people can go all day without eating til dinner. one of my best friends (hes rather sloth-like) eats just one meal a day and is fine hunger wise.
You and almost everyone else, including men and women! We watched a birthing video in one of my classes and people were understandably grossed out, but I was like, How do you think you came into this world? I think it's pretty incredible stuff and someone's gotta do it!
Also, I don't think some of the current practices in birthing are the best for women. They're often drugged up, in uncomfortable positions, and aren't always given enough options for the day of delivery. Just from shadowing doctors in a couple of specialties, I already know what I want to imitate and what I would do differently when I'm a doctor.
Some days I eat breakfast (~600-1000 calories) and then don't eat until ~10PM. Once you get past the hunger pains around 4, it's not too hard to power through. It's not a good habit though. I try to at least eat a 200 C salad for lunch.
Yeah I know it is necessary. I'm glad there are people that genuinely want to do ob/gyn. I acknowledge the awesomeness involved.
what's the point? do you just not like eating haha
the irony is you need to eat more smaller meals if you want to lose weight while being sedentary. i suggest reading the The Abs Diet by the editor's of Men's Health. It's not a diet at all actually, it teaches you how to eat.
Can you imagine if for some freak reason if I had to take 2 years off, if that's even possible? I'd be 2016 and then I wouldn't know anyone (on SDN)!!!! That would be a sad, sad day. I would feel so lost, so lonely.
Yeah I've already read that stuff 🙂. One step at a time. First cut calories, then distribute over 5-6 meals. It's the easiest way for me to move from overeating to properly eating.
But, I did also lose 40 pounds a couple years ago doing things my own way. If you think of the body as a simple mass-energy balance, it's not too hard to lose weight. All the extra techniques that make things super difficult are just optimizing the end goal.

different things work for different people. congratulations on losing 40 lbs! that's awesome. you're right, it just boils down to expenditure > intake.

yeah. don't do that. then you'll have classmates that were born in the 1990s.
Yeah I'm 6'0 and can drop pounds like a machine. Cut drinking, lift, and run (not just cardio, but actual running). Thanks =). Yeah, I have it "easy" when I actually want to try. Being a young 6'2" means when I diet AND exercise (so much easier over summer), I can eat ~1500 and burn 3500+ (that's >3 lb / wk). I don't like to do that tho because it borders on muscle loss and you get really tired of being that hungry (and tired). I really want to put in the work of actually eating right (like the diet you suggested) instead of abusing the shortcuts (hackers guide to dieting).

True story, that.
And of course Philly has an accent! EVERY place has an accent compared to other places. 😛 We have a very nasal short A-sound, say wooder instead of water, and a lot of folks say "youse" which I HATE.

Do people seriously talk like this? 😱
most of the people who do are natives from pittsburgh proper (like south side/north side/around rt 51) or do work like construction/truck drivers/have family who typically did manual labor. also, on the radio stations, when they do comedy skits involving pgh'ers they always talk like that.
I'm about to buy another AAMC MCAT. 6, 8, 9 or 10?
Oh, and I'm definitely buying another 2 or 3 before the test, at least. Just trying to decide which one to do next.
curbye is getting crunked right now
