Yay!!!

I made nachos for dinner. And I was chatting with MB and told him I made nachos, and he was like, from scratch!? And I said, yeah! And then he said, ok, how do you make nachos. And I was like, uh.....its not that hard. And he says "OK, you take potatoes, and then what?"


I was like....huh??? Potatoes??🙂


Apparently Canadians know nothing about quasi-Mexican food🙂


My first interview is a week from tomorrow and I am scared to death.


Also, My first day on call with my new trauma program is in two days, and I think I am even more scared about that.


This is one of those times where I wish I were nice and normal and wasn't pursuing such a stress-filed career life.

I will now respond in order to what you've said:

hahaha potatoes...that doesn't even make sense. Nachos sound amazing. Have you ever had totchos? Tater tot nachos? They're pretty great.

You will be awesome in your interview! A week is plenty of time to get ready, you'll be totally fine. Have you picked out your outfit??

That sounds exciting. I'm way jealous of all the medical experience you have because mine is severely lacking. I'm working on it though. And let me tell you, a mundane life like working in retail where you never actually have to use your brain for anything is boring and totally unfulfilling.

edit: I made soup for dinner. And by make I mean heated up. I really need to learn how to cook.

Cooking is overrated. You only need to know how to bake....then you can lure in a man who can cook, and you will be the perfect culinary power couple.

Actually....that is not a bad idea. Maybe I need to start looking for men at culinary school. Hmmm. There is a school here that, every Friday at 5pm, does a 3 course meal with 3 wines for 20 bucks so that the students can practice. No one can ever got off work early enough to do it with me; I've been wanting to do it forever.

I think a cute chef is exactly what I need in my life right now.

We need to live in the same town. That would solve all of our problems.

Actually one of my really good friends went to the CIA and is a pretty amazing chef. But we're solidly in the friend zone. Besides, if someone is that good at cooking it's really intimidating to make anything for them.

So I'm assuming man in uniform extends to chef outfits? Haha. Or maybe just an apron.

I've had Irish nachos and they're pretty great.

It rained today here. It's still August and the rain is beginning. Oh goodness.

Um...how tall is this friend, and can he come with you when you come down here to interview?😉

It smells like Halloween here. I'm happy. I HATE summer. It is my least favorite season. I will be really excited if Fall starts this early.

I do wish I knew how to make Pho though.

You shouldn't be intimidated....most cooks cannot bake. They will be thrilled. Also, food always tastes better when someone you like/love makes it for you🙂

we need to go there!! I want 20 dollars worth of good food...and then we can both find a cute-sie chef...one for both of us!! Statistically the profession might have men that would lean my way..harharhar!

Also, about your Canadians and nachos...don't you know they only know to whip up delicious snack foods with french fries (IE: Poutine)!

Lastly, I doubt many will know what you mean by bun loll...they'll be like, buns? like a guy's buns of steel? mmm...delicious. :laugh:

Hahah..Pho is not that hard to make! I can explain it somewhat! OMG we could even make a party of it...it does take a LONG time though. It's not worth our time and money to actually make it, as I've learned from my mom. May as well just pay the 5 bucks for it.

I love fall too! November is my favorite month. Not really sure why.

There are a few Pho carts in Portland that are really great. Well actually there are a lot of carts that are really great and EVERYWHERE now. Any time I can get authentic food and finish with a Nutella and marshmallow fluff-filled waffle is a good time for me. That reminds me, have you ever seen Man v. Food? That show is crazy.

This is pretty impressive that we've had a legit conversation with no interruption. Where is everyone? It's a Monday night!

Is your friend in the agency only a chef for htem? lol...because I'm surprised you "know" he works there lol...assuming he's "one of those".

CIA= Culinary Institute of America, in upstate New York. But I think it sounds cooler if I tell people my friend was in the CIA 😎

I've seen Man v. Food commercials but not actually seen it!! I'll make an effort though.

Pho CARTS? That is AWESOME. I would have one parked outside my house permanently.

Also.....nutella and marshamallow fluff waffle???

If I don't get an interview at OHSU I will be very very VERY sad.

Me too, both if I don't get an interview and if you don't. Portland is awesome. The Pho cart I went to, the guy didn't speak much English and it took like 10 minutes because he made it all right in front of you, letting you taste the broth and other random soup as it all came together. There's also a khao man gai cart that I visited recently. So many carts, so little time.

LOL! I ate there once when I was in middle school or so. I loved making people confused by telling them I ate at the CIA.
 
Same here, bleargh. I just didn't feel tired last night and before I knew it I was going to bed at 3AM when I have to get up at 6:30.

On the plus side, at least I know I can still function on nowhere near enough sleep. Good news for residency, right?

same for penn, frustrating. after the early batch of invites ive been passed over by everywhere else, but i really need to focus on my interview in 2 days. so lazy right now though 👎
 
In three days I will have been under review at Temple, Jefferson, and Creighton for TWO months 🙄 so depressing. so many ppl have gotten interviews who completed a long time after me

I'm in the same boat at two of those and many more. I don't think it is time to start panicking yet. Eventually some of these schools will come back around to us.
 
I'm getting into it with some of my mom-friends on my other message board about informed consent. What they're riled about is more than understandable, but they just don't seem to get that the doctors and nurses can't sit there and spell out an entire consent form in layman's terms for every patient. You have to ask! If you say you don't have any questions, what are they supposed to think?!

Also, I just drank my first ever Vitamin Water Zero....boy was that a mistake. Disgusting. And now my stomach hurts.


Regular water without vitamins is much better.

Freaking disgusting. :barf: I tried it twice with 2 different flavors! Maybe I am not used to the sugar-substitute that they use in zero calorie beverages. Whatever. I like normal Vitamin Water (chock full of calories!) way more and I like normal water the best. 😎
 
I have food poisoning. Reading the posts all about food from last night made me almost toss my cookies... for the hundredth time today.

Like many of you, I check my e-mail throughout the day and check this site to see which schools have offerred invites (and more aptly, which schools have likely passed me over). I applied to a bunch of schools and have a couple of interviews and a handful of rejections. But silence from the vast majority. I am complete and in the review process but nothing but silence.

I understand that we are early from in the season but at what point in the cycle have most of the invites been given out? Put differently, when can we safely say, "ok, I have heard nothing and won't be getting an interview at [school]"? Would it be December, January, February, etc?

I ask because this is the my first time in this game and don't really know how it is played. For example, I believe Michigan has already given out over 50% of its invites for the season.

Any thoughts?

I don't think anyone here can answer this for you. I think we would all like to know the date we can conclude our chances at school X have diminished. However, I think right now it is still early in the cycle. In fact, some schools haven't even sent out any interview invitations yet. My opinion is that regardless of how soon you sent in your application, many schools focus on the 3.8+/36+ applicants and in-state applicants first, then come back around to everyone else.

I think that right now all we can do is wait and see.

Maybe some of the 2014ers like Elijah, Dingy, or Metallica can provide some info on how their interview offers were distributed accross their cycle.

Howdy Beagles. :hello:

It's pretty early in the season. It's not yet time to worry. Keep in mind that in the real world (aka not SDN) some people have yet so submit and verify their AMCAS. I'm not sure where you heard that UMich has given out more than half of its invites, but I somehow doubt that.

In short, Hakuna Matata, man. You still have time to get invites from your dream schools. Congrats on the interviews that you already have lined up!
 
This may not be completely relevant, but it might make you feel better to know that many of my friends only interviewed at the schools they are currently attending sometime between January-March. I think it is probably realistic to assume that we are still in the very early fringes of interview-handout season, so hang in there!

What I am kind of worried about, though, is somehow not getting important e-mails such as interview invites. Already happened to me once with a secondary...

Not to freak people out, but UMich as given 375 out of 750 interviews thus far (according to their website). Yeah, it is early but we must remain hopeful. But if anyone does know when interview invites begin to teeter downward or how long being "complete and in review" without any word is a bad sign, I think people (including me) would appreciate the thoughts/feedback.

Edit: I just posted this question on the 2014 thread as well for anyone that is interested.

This may be a dumb question, but I am still figuring all this stuff out = once your AMCAS or TMDSAS are submitted, do we wait on schools to contact us, or do we have to do something (I have done all the secondaries that were available to me prior to submission).

Thanks for any help! 🙂 My Mum just looks at me and stares when I try to figure things out!!! (I am British so I am learning how to apply!) 🙂

for amcas:

first, you have to wait until you're verified by AMCAS, and when you applied, you selected all the schools you want to apply to

then, you wait for them to contact you through the email you provided, and they'll send you the the secondaries.

Haha I won't, but I'm sure my bf will. I'm trying to be positive about it; I'm leaving for Hawaii in two days and I'll be skinnnnnay on the beach from being so sick :laugh:
