Can we get an update from everyone? Where do we all stand in the process.

I'll start.

I applied to 5 schools. I got all 5 secondaries and sent 4 back. I'm hella late on the last one and may not bother depending on if I hear anything next Friday. I've been to one interview and I've got another one scheduled for the end of the month. Two schools still have me under review/no decision yet.

Update: I applied to too many schools, and elected not to fill out two of my secondaries. Got rejected pre-secondary at UCSF. Am sitting around wondering about whether I'll make the cut to go speed-dating at Stanford. I have gone on a few interviews and am really hoping I hear from someone in the next two weeks so I can cancel a few.
 
Applied to too many schools as well (20+). Very late on returning 5 or 6 of them. Things kinda got crazy near end of August/early September, and just fell behind with those (writing my thesis, personal/family issues... not much of an excuse so I need to get them done this week).

One rejection, three holds (one at one of my state schools 🙁 , one at VCU and almost everyone goes through some form of hold there so I'm still cautiously optimistic), four interviews (3 DO, 1 MD), attended one, two more this upcoming week.

Really want to get an interview at Stanford--it'll be the only one in driving distance and it's an awesome school. UCSF probs rejected. Vandy rejected. UMich pretty much rejected. Pritzker rejected. Would probably interview at Harvard if they gave me one, but I don't think that's gonna happen. I think the rest of the remaining schools are probably rejections.

I guess that was kinda long.

My rundown is pretty much exactly the same, but insert different schools and only invited to/attended 1 interview so far.

How is everyone doing today? It's still dreary here. I've popped in a couple more times but no one's been around.

For reals. The rain needs to stop already. At least it was nice on Sunday, we took Chicklet to the pumpkin patch and she had a blast.
 
My status in this process:

24 secondaries completed, writing a "polite" email to the last school asking if the two months they've had to look at my AMCAS is enough to give me a secondary or reject me.

1 interview on the infamous October 15.

1 rejection pre-secondary from the med school I'm a double-legacy at, 2 post-secondary rejections.

A whole lot of silence.

Oh, and my SDN/internets are broken. No icons are appearing.

Fun! I have no Chicklet excuse, but we did something similar on Saturday - there's an urban farm in Kensington and we went to their fall fest.

1 post secondary rejection

1 school with a planned Oct 15th notification, but only of accepted (not likely). If waitlisted; a hard copy letter awaits.

2 schools with a mid-November decision planned if accepted immediately. Otherwise a long waitlist.

Got my bag. Maybe will make this next train. Maybe.

1 interview completed (crossing my fingers for 10 days from now)
2 more interview invites scheduled for nov.
zero 😱 rejections (so far)
aaand... 11 schools left to hear from.

hope it's done raining everywhere for everyone! it's finally sunny in cincinnati today. you all are rocking this app cycle - I have no clue how I have three interviews and no rejections so far [I wish there was a smiley that had an eyebrow raised - because it would be perfect in this situation, and it's my signature move!]

p.s. for those who wondered, the cookies at jimmy john's are only okay.
 
Thanks for explaining, GC. I have a bad habit of losing focus in the middle of people's posts and skipping straight to the next post. And then once that happens, every time I see the beginning of that post, I think to myself, "I have already read this one," and so I end up never seeing the rest of the post.

I know fast technology is causing our generation to have shorter attention spans, but this is getting ridiculous.

2 rejections (just found out about OHSU 🙁 )
1 interview invite (in November)
a whole lot of silence

didn't even get an interview at my state school 👎 hoping for good news elsewhere
 
Status update: Just got one rejection and one "this doesn't bode well for you" hold.

Not an awesome day for my self-confidence.
 
yo whats up all, that was a crazy stretch there with traveling across the nation but im still alive. i hope everyone has been doing well throughout the process :luck:

i had my first interview today, and you guys weren't kidding when you said interview day is draining when you're through. i loved the school. i leave for another interview tomorrow that is on thursday, followed by another one sunday. i'm glad my cherry was finally popped. hopefully, they love me too.

Everyone in this town is nice and a total of 9 people have apologized to me that it is raining
It rained (which I LOVE)
I had one of the top 25 meals of my life
My hotel rocks
I had a martini. Sleepy time now.

i have heard NOTHING in a long time lol. and i have come to the conclusion that hearing something is better than nothing, even if it's bad news.


sorry about the rejections, but I hope you know that means that the next set of news for you guys is good news!!!
 
9 days and 3 hours till I get the first result (and that schools mostly waitlists). I hope 10/15 comes soon...

Going to the UCDavis conference this coming weekend, gonna get "slizzard." (har har)

Applied Thermo test tomorrow is gonna rape me.

Birthday is close to Oct 15 and will be celebrated after my interview in philly if anyone wants to join 🙂

I've been asked to do a pas de deux in the spring concert at school next year, in the winter performance for my studio, and a solo in the winter concert.. dunno if I have time/skill enough to be comfortable with a solo.

Let's get some life updates on everyone since med apps are going pretty good so far!

My life updates:

1. I've been spending every day I'm not working cleaning out my parents' kitchen for them so it'll be easier to move everything out when they do a big renovation. I found where mice used to live. I work with mice every day, but still... I don't want to find evidence of their presence in my house.

1a. I am desperate to move out into my own place. Living at home for the 2 years between college and med school has saved me enough to pay cash for MS1, but it's annoying as all hell. Plus, I loooooooove interior design and can't wait to decorate my own place 🙂

2. Going to SF next weekend for my school's obnoxious, arrogant tradition. I love it. I especially love that LoveFest is that weekend too; the raver's parade is awesome.

3. I am le poor. It makes me sad.

1+a. Dude that's sweet, lots of $$$! Living with the parents definitely stinks. They kinda moved out of our house recently so I'm living in it while we try to sell (which isn't happening because of the recession and all the foreclosures in the area). But in MD school you'll get your own place right? 🙂

2. I thought LoveFest was canceled this year? I went a few years ago and it was awesome, although I wish I had stayed for the after party! Is the "afterparty" still going on this year?

3. Le poor with enough $$$ for ms1? =P

You're right, the LovEvolution parade is canceled this year. I just found that out... so sad 🙁 I doubt I'll be going to the "afterparty" though, I'll probably hit up Ruby Skye.

And yes, I don't EVER pull money out of savings, so once it's there, it's like it's gone. So having no money in checking with a big credit card bill = being broke.

lol like I've said before, I'm not anonymous on here so whatever, but I respect the idea, I just lost mine before I wanted it lol =P (that's what she said... haha)

That's a really good habit tho. I've recently stopped my job (I usually work on fridays but with interviews I haven't been able to)=no $ flow now. It is a huge bummer that the parade got canceled because 2 people died at 2 separate HUGE EDM events. More people die at other live events afaik--someone did the stats on it one time. Is Ruby Skye a club?

Yeah, they usually have fairly well-known DJs playing. I've seen DJ AM and Darude there, and I've only been twice.

Separations processes work tonight. (applied thermo for those of ya'll who were wondering) This **** blows. You can do it in chemcad in 3 minutes but my professor wants us to do it by hand (3hours per problem) and I am saying "no screw that I have better things to do with our time." Our test tomorrow has no equations sheets/notes/etc. so it's gonna be all conceptual and his concepts are HARD--I would actually rather do calculations for his tests.

I know what you mean about unit ops... + that teacher insists on RIDICULOUS lab reports from hell.

let's be friends. I'm living at home as well currently, AND I love interior design (Elle Decor is one of my favorite mags).

Also, for outside of life updates, just got an award at work, and just finished all the training/clearances so I can get started on my research assistant position/deal with patients! Marathon this Sunday :scared: so I'm tapering which sucks. I can't believe how fast time has gone by.

the lab reports are awfullll, reminds me of p-chem lab which was similarly terrible, i legit wish i was taking a biochem class this semester to at least vary up the material. i took separations last semester, also horrible. i think kinetics is the only class i have found interesting over the last 1.5 years within the major

Sure we can be friends 🙂 I did live in Oregon for a long time, after all. Wow, you're running a marathon? I have no advice to give, except for the following two things:

1. Don't drink Saturday night
2. When you hit "the wall" and want to stop, just think of a med school interviewer asking about the marathon, and how awkward it would be if you had to tell him/her that you gave up and stopped running :laugh:
