Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So... Now we have to actually GO to medical school. What have we gotten ourselves into?!? We are such masochists.

Congrats to all!

anyone else still waiting for their first???? don't leave me behind class of 2015 !

i feel like those of us that know this and embrace it are better off than the ones who are in denial.

someone zap this little virus out of me. achiness sucks.

I know I have been accepted to medical school... but, I still can't believe it. What if they sent me the wrong letter? Ugh, I can't get the nerve to withdrawal from other schools out of fear that I am imagining this all.

And I am not a masochist... I just enjoy being stressed out. constantly. My brain has been rewired to get pleasure out of the stress. haha

Congrats to all!

Still waiting here as well. I know there's a decision letter on it's way to me from the east coast. If it's not in my mailbox when I get home from work tonight I think my head might explode.

Congrats Cougs!

i know the feeling lol

I hate the Celtics. And their damn tacky parquet floor. And how they totally cheat when they're playing at home.

I'm all about the Lakeshow. I have a bright gold sweatshirt that's for the 1987 Lakers World Champions. It has the lineup and everything on it... it's one of my prized posessions.

ahaha although Boston is quite dirty, I love Doc Rivers, and Rondo was one of my favs until this past year lol.

but 👍 on the sweater that sounds so sick. I was in a competition and was 2 baskets away from a signed vintage Kobe Jersey 🙁 but oh well, when I'm his personal doc, I'll just be eating lunch with him on a daily basis 😉

i hate your face.

lake show alllll day!!! and kobe's the lifeguard of that lake.

ah I wish my interviewers start asking about the Lakers and Kobe. I think I can talk about that subject for about 4-6 hours nonstop

I'm so jealous of everyone with acceptances in hand! I'm supposed to find out next week from the school I interviewed at, but the more I think about the interview, the more I feel like I bombed it. 🙁

I need some good news or another interview at least. It's hard to remember that in the real world, interviews go on until the spring... because of SDN, I feel like I'm running out of time to get invites haha

Don't sweat it, Daisy. I'm sure you did fine. And there's a long time for decisions to be made. Don't get lost in this first Oct 15 madness.

Not only that, but a lot of schools accept conservatively at first precisely because they keep interviewing until March.

Even if you think you bombed, it can work out ok, I promise!! My fingers and toes are crossed for you and it ain't over until its over.

Thanks Shanks... haha I'm just being a baby about the whole process. With my terrible sGPA, I'm lucky to have gotten one interview already. A big part of the stress/excitement is that I want to figure out where I'll be living for at least 4 years!

Thanks Cougs too! Everyone on this thread is awesome.

If they accept conservatively at first, then what's the advantage of applying early? If you're placed on the waitlist earlier, does that mean you'll be at the top of the list?

I can only guess. But if I had to guess, I would say that if you apply early, they have more time to look at your app. If you were looking at apps, wouldn't you be much more fresh in the beginning?

But the reason I say they accept conservatively at first is because I have clearly been told this at 4+ schools when interviewing.

When the admissions committee looks at your app, unless you're a stellar applicant, you might not get an interview invite right away. So, if you had applied early, they can put you on hold, and re-review your application with the next batch of apps. Thus, you have a better chance of getting an invite by the time they get to your app 2-3 times, rather than applying late, competing for the last few spots, and might not have the luxury of having your app looked at multiple times.

This is why you're awesome baller🙂

Yeah, this is the first time throughout the whole process that I've been frustrated by it. I wish there was more transparency but I suppose that's just a pipe dream.

Is that so? Tell me what I want to hear, Cougs...

A) There's fewer applicants per interview spots. For example a school could have 8 people per interview spot in August but then have 15 to 1 in November. So you're a lot less likely to even get an interview.
B) The same follows for post-interview evaluations. There are obviously a lot more seats available per applicant in the beginning. Look at previous years' school specific threads. A lot of schools begin waitlisting everyone in January or February even though they have a couple of months of interviews. Getting in off a waitlist is often a crapshoot.
C) You have a psychological edge. If you interview in September the interviewers haven't been jaded by 5 months of cliched answers, and you are more likely to get a favorable evaluation.

At one school where I got invited I tried to postpone the interview a few weeks, and the person I spoke to on the phone pretty much told me straight out it would be unwise to do so. (I ended up getting euphemistically rejected there anyways 🙄) At a couple of other schools we were told straight out that the fact we're interviewing so early means our chances were that much better.

Alright, I am breaking my rule, and saying identifying things. But I was told that exact thing at Jefferson, UCI, Yale, and Boston University.

All good schools....all places that accept conservatively at first to see what the attrition rate is going to be.

Also....this.

At several interviews students who came and talked to us or even just walked by us would exclaim "Oh, you're interviewing so early! That is such a good thing".

It matters🙂

I've heard that on each of my interviews as well, but wasn't sure if there was any truth to it. Nice to hear.

1. Almost missed my flight this morning due to a poor decision on my part.
2. Had fun at Penn "Happy Hour" and then joined med students in their partying until 11ish.
3. Walked a lot more than anticipated in my uncomfortable interview shoes (don't have the $$$ to buy a nice comfortable pair atm)
4. Philly is really cool so far
5. I hope you all are having a great day.
6. Congrats on any new acceptances!! (don't have time to read up on the thread atm)
7. This is not complaining, just an itemized summary of my rather fun and interesting day 🙂

Oh please, my sGPA is garbage (make that my cGPA lol)... you'll do just fine

Thank the gods, my head didn't explode.

Acceptance letter! Surprised-ish because that was for sure for sure my worst faculty interview.

Celebrating by putting on comfy pants, drinking a fancy beer, and making cream cheese frosting for my pumpkin-chocolate-chip cupcakes (clearly I am attempting to bring the discussion back to baked goods...).

Well then I'll spice things up by saying... I'VE BEEN ACCEPTED TO TEMPLE! 😀

Big congratulations! One of my good friends from college is in her second year there and she likes it a lot 🙂

Meanwhile, I had a rejection sitting in my inbox bright and early this morning. It was from a school I actually was kind of hopeful about. Boo. 🙁

Thanks Daisy! And hang in there, I'm sure you'll get some good news sometime soon!

Daisy, there must be widespread stupidity going on amongst the schools that are rejecting you. F**k 'em, they don't know what they're missing.

Awww, sorry to hear that! I do hope you hear good news from other schools soon! It still is fairly early in the cycle-so don't lose hope yet! "You never know what will happen" definitely applies here! 🙂

Awwwwww thanks guys! I'm still hopeful for good things, since there are a bunch of schools I haven't even heard back from yet.

No rejections but I'm right there with you guys. Can't wait to be "officially" class of 2015.

So hey. I started a diet nearly two weeks ago and I lost like 4 pounds in the first week. Not so much this week, as my body goes, "RAWR! What happened to my foooooood!?!?!" 😡

But hey... 👍
