Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A few schools post important things first on the status check (for the schools I applied to they were Drexel, Temple, Upstate, Wake Forest, MSSM, and Buffalo), before sending out emails. But for most schools it makes no difference.

Buffalo... still have "no action". Whatever that means. Even though I was complete in August. They're random review is annoying, and I feel like hurts an applicant who got all their stuff in early. I know people who have had significantly lower stats and experiences than myself who recently were complete and then got an interview three days later. I guess good things come to those who wait, but at the same thing we're almost half way through the application season and almost getting to primary/secondary deadlines (if not already) and things haven't been moving at some schools.

i guess that makes sense on why not to post on this thread but i don't have an acceptance yet either :luck:
on the status front, i check them religiously. i'm sure this was coincidence, but for one school i was unaware it had a status page, checked it 3 months after i was complete and received an interview a few days later

I hope this isn't a rule, because if so I've been breaking it for quite a while now. Woops 🙄

On my way to Philly! Delta has free wifi on all flights through the holidays, so I can keep up with SDN all throughout my flight thank god 🙂

Good luck :luck::luck::luck:

I hope you made some time to check out the city! And yay for free wifi 👍

A mod's still a mod. 😀

:highfive: Congrats! However, to be an official member, you must turn my tickets to that 'thing I love' into diamonds.

*sits and waits*
:laugh::laugh:
Isn't Part 2 coming out in May?

 You could save more Halloween candy that way. :meanie:
Oh yay! I don't know why I was thinking July. I can maybe make it to May🙂

Woohoo, good luck! Go eat at Alma de Cuba!🙂

I'm loving this Raider vs. Pittsburgh game.

All of the penalties... the good defensive plays... the raiders losing... and especially Richard Seymore displaying one punch knock out power on Ben Roethlisberger. I wish that punch was on youtube already, so funny.

Wow, have you seen the end to this Jets-Texans game? The Jets couldn't have given the Texans a more gift-wrapped package to the game, and they just regifted it back to the Jets less than a minute later. lolol What a Texas-sized colossal failure.

So I just realized that my answer to the "why engineering?" question that I've been fielding was ******ed. I would like to redo some interviews please. Haha. I hate these post-interview regret moments.

It's probably just fine. Everyone worries post-interview that their answers are weak, but I don't think there's much to be concerned about if it wasn't an obvious disaster (e.g. a yelling match occuring).

I would like to hear your original answer. How bad could it be?

Yes! I saw it. Crazy ending, and the Texans looked stunned, like they got got their souls ripped out. That was a great catch/pass that set up the scoring play.

The Jets dominated for the first 3 quarters, so they deserved to win. Although, after the game, watching grown men pretend to fly around like airplanes made me loose a lot of respect for them :meanie:

I despised this game. I saw it coming, but it still hurt.

I was at the Jags/Browns game refreshing nfl.com every 5 seconds until I just gave up on the Raiders and watched the game I was at. Which btw, was a great game! I can't believe that with 4 turnovers in a row the Browns weren't able to capitalize on the crap offense and win. Last moments were breathtaking. I think Jax is starting a trend of crazy endings.

The Jets have always been the awkward failing sibling here, so don't worry - I have no problem with you losing respect haha.

Pretty awful... I'm rather disgruntled with my major right now which makes me forget all the positive reasons that I chose it. So I basically told them that I chose it as a fallback because the MD's I talked to back in HS all told me I probably wouldn't make it and should have a backup plan.

If you see those Pillsbury Sweet Moments in your grocery store...don't buy them.

They are like crack.

Only more expensive

Also, to anyone who went to my alma mater (aka Daisy) or cheers for us in football... that. was. pathetic.

It was miserable. I stopped watching at half time.

Had a big night last night to make up for the horrible game which resulted in me having a terrible migraine this morning. My bf ran out to a store and got me ibuprofen at 8 am though - he's awesome. 🙂

I dont now if thats so bad. It shows your consistent comitment to wanting to be and MD. at least thats how I see it.

Did you notice that the ECHO ski pass has days at heavenly this year? got mine today. 😎

That's an encouraging point 🙂

I didn't know that -- I've actually never ski'd heavenly, because south lake is about an extra hour away, so I usually ski boreal, alpine, and rose. Sometimes squaw. My parents were gonna buy me a pass+ski's this year but then my brother's car needed to have its engine pretty much pulled and rebuilt and that was very expensive, so I've gotta try and get money to ski... which is gonna be hard because I can't really work much during the remaining semester and I'd have to work like 80 hours in a week or two to get enough cash in time to make it worth while. I dunno if that would fly with my (part time job) bosses.

Urgh. Got an email from my boss saying that the vivarium staff might have mixed up my mouse cages so I have to redo a week or two's worth of work. That does not make me excited to go to work, even though it's a short week 🙁

I don't think that is such a terrible answer. Although, speaking about your pursuits passionately typically comes off better. If I was asked that question, I would discuss what attracted me to that major, or what I enjoyed about it. Then I would some how tie that aspect into why I want to be a physician. In my interviews, I tried to come back to my passion for medicine in as many answers as possible.

For example, if I said I was attracted to that major because I enjoy problem solving, then I would follow up by saying that as a physician diagnosing and assisting patients in improving their health and quality of life were aspects of medicine that I look forward to. While engineering is very academically and intellectually satisfying, I feel that as a physician I would recieve that same satisfaction with the added benefit of being able to positively impact my patients lives.

I'm sure you're doing awesome. Interviewing skills must be in your portfolio of cultural capital.

Yeah that's exactly how I had practiced the answer earlier on in the year and what I realized I should have done when I was rethinking over the interviews today. =\

I think we all second guess our responses and think we could have answered atleast one question better. However, the goal is to create a positive impression, and one question will not tank an otherwise superb interview. Give yourself a break! 🙂

Earlier today I mentioned enjoying this ruckus during the raider vs. steeler game. Now it is up on youtube:

Flowrate-- i'm sure your answer was fine. so don't second guess yourself. Maybe in the future mention though how you believe the major will help prepare you to be a better physician.

I have a weird second major in the humanities that interviews also comment on. I also state that 1. I knew I was going to medical school so I wanted to use college as a time to broaden my horizon (which is the point, isn't it?). 2. I think of myself as a Renaissance Woman. (I believe a jack of all trades will help if I decide to be a hospitalist -- though I usually don't state this.) 3. It will help me be a better physician for so and so reasons -- usually cultural understanding and communication skills, in my case.

Yeah, I studied two completely random things besides the basic bio, but they're both actually important to medicine so I made sure to talk about the relation in my interview. I'm sure you're fine Flow 🙂

Yay for the short work week and then GOBBLEGOBBLEGOBBLE! (and paid time off!)

One more looooong day of work, then I'm free!!!

I am doing ride alongs this week. Police department tomorrow and fire department on Wednesday. I'm excited🙂

Also...I will pay one of you to force me to write an update letter tonight. Seriously. Big cash money. Over 9,000 dollars.

Get to work!!!

I'm trying to decide if we should get Chicklet a tricycle for Christmas (right after she turns 2, but she won't be able to really ride it until the spring when she's more like 2 years and 3 or 4 months) or go straight to a tiny bike with training wheels.

This bike alone makes me want to forego the trike. Cutest. Thing. Ever.

haha, oh fair enough. that was a good game because both teams played terribly and kept it interesting with turnovers. if the eagles receivers would've brought their hands to the game it would've been a blow out at half time.

it was too many.

what happened to that guy that left on the stretcher? is he ok?

Neck injury, but the X-rays were negative. He missed the second half of last season after neck surgery so there's obviously extra cause for concern. Apparently he came back to the sidelines by the fourth quarter (at which point I was watching the second showing of Dexter). He should be okay.

get the training wheels. the kids learn faster than you think, and it's probably more efficient than having to buy another bike in 6 months

...and make sure it has a little horn too

Finished my first interview! Really wasn't bad at all. It went by so fast it's all a blur. Time to relax and eat some candy!

Thanks guys 🙂

I didn't really see the city, so I'm not sure I'm qualified to answer if I like it. The students I talked to for some reason weren't the biggest fans. Not sure why.

That's great Duckie! And I love that bike Geeks! I'm kinda jealous my own parents never gave me such an awesome looking one.

I'm soooo excited for Thursday! These next few days of work until then are gonna seem so slow I think. Meh.

Congrats Ducky! I'm sure you blew the interviewers away 🙂

GC - That bike is adorable. I was a huge tomboy when I was little, so I had a TMNT bike :d

Definitely a horn and streamers! 😀

I agree with the training wheels + little bike combo. Although, the Bobby's World style trikes are +100 awesome points. I'd totally ride one around if I wasn't 1) too big and 2) numb from the thighs down

Well, she already identifies Iron Man, Spider-man, and sometimes Wolverine and Yoda. 😛 That's my girl. But she also loves Disney Fairies, "princess" movies (Princess and the Frog, Beauty and the Beast) and thinks bright pink is really pretty (My pretty dress! Mommy's pretty shirt, etc.). Besides, they don't have a lot of TMNT stuff right now, let alone the smallest size bike.

Ducky, that school is in, from what I understand, a pretty bland part of the city (never really been there). Philly grows on ya, though.

Be jealous guys, Duck meets me (as well as the hubster and Chicklet) tonight.
