This is so, so true. For all you beginners out there, IPAs and EPAs are not the place to start. Try a Pilsner or some kind of wheat beer...Leinie's Honeyweiss is good for beginners who think they don't like beer. Belgian whites are good too...pretty smooth, slightly wheaty, kind of sweet, but very flavorful.
When you feel ready to join the big leagues, find a place near you with lots of microbrews on tap (hipster bars near college campuses are usually the place for this) and try a bunch! The bartender will almost always let you sample beers...just remember to give him/her a tip for the trouble.
