My last comment about Poundtown....Thanks Raffle for the hopeful thoughts, but I doubt I'll be heading into town anytime soon. I am pretty picky and like to only head there with "my type of guy"...which doesn't exist around here ..or anywhere haha. :scared:

So, I thought..maybe I should go in and do a few hours of work after all. So I got up, showered, got some takeout to take with me, and got on the freeway......
Turns out there was an accident that was going to double my trip time. So I came home. :shrug:

I take it as a sign. Hope the noisy neighbors don't make me regret my decision....

Anyone else around tonight?
 
Yes, but I had just enough beer to make me sleepy.

...and now that my iPod's done syncing to provide me with some driving music for tomorrow morning, I'm off to be a Viking. Don't stay up too late, y'all. 😉

i am in the hizzle. my roomates are out for the night, but i didnt feel like doing anything.
doing some late night house cleaning cuz the landlord wants to show the house to some prospects tomorrowzz. its been a really chill friday night all in all. 🙂

btw.. i like eating bean sprouts like chips. that weird??

I could see myself doing that if I got popcorn slathered in butter or coated with salt or otherwise greasy. I think that's most of the microwave popcorn out there (I haven't had microwave popcorn in *ages*). But let's face it--if I could, I'd eat popcorn using the giant scoop things that they use to transfer the popcorn into the bag or bucket.

I had never heard of that Bruno Mars song before....despite the fact that it has 41 million hits on youtube. It is my new favorite song.


Also...how come when *I* bring up meeting up it is creepy, yet when raffle and Daisy do it, it is cool? :cry: It is because I didn't know the Bruno Mars song, isn't it?

I'm stuck at home dogsitting tonight. I'm drinking the most putrid merlot... why oh why do my parents have such terrible taste in alcohol?
 
We have almost no booze in the house. Just one bottle of wine. I don't even know if it's red or white. I keep thinking I need to buy some (just amaretto, dammit, to go in my Sprite) but I never remember when I'm actually at a place that might sell it.
 
I just think its weird that family medicine and internal medicine do virtually the same three year residency (other than internal medicine doesn't generally rotate through OB unless they take it an elective) yet family medicine cannot sub specialize in anything like internal meds do.


medicine can be straight up ******ed silly. :shrug:

Can family med definitely not subspecialize? It's weird cuz I know an EM who was offered a cards fellowship, so I figured FM could pick up that sort of stuff too.

According to my bf (so take this with a grain of salt) FM can specialize in sports medicine, peds, adolescent, geriatrics (including palliative), ob or sleep medidicne. This is way more than I thought, but still silly when IM can do so much more. It is my firm belief that no sub specialized physician outside of FM/IM should be allowed to be a "primary" doctor. In other words, you shouldnt be seeing your urologist as a primary, or your OB/GYN as your primary. But thats another convo....

An ER doctor at my hospital is rotating through the ICU as we are short some intinsitvists...that's really the first time I have heard anyone switching up specialties without having to repeat residency.

We have a 3rd year FM resident who is applying to the 2011 Match...she hoping for ER or OB/GYN. She said if she doesn't match, she will be forced to scramble. 😱. so odd.

With the Veterans Affairs, the rules are looser. FM can work ER and/or IM. They bend the traditional "rules" in so many ways but I guess since they are the feddy govt, they can.

I always thought the purpose of family medicine was to have a strong general knowledge of everything that might walk into a clinic, while IM is who receives complex patients. My mom is a specialized IM doc, and her specialty is nothing that would be taken care of in a FM setting.

As far as why FM can't specialize, I dunno... maybe they want to keep primary care docs doing primary care?
 
But I am definitely going to look into the cards thing. My man is looking into changing positions (he currently is FM/ER with one day or so/month IM).

It would be nice to be able to do a fellowship versus having to repeat a whole IM residency to then sub specialize in something like cards or GI. He said that most programs will give him one year credit for his previous residency. Ideally he would do this while I was in school.

not sure what gets more complex than a ten minute appointment with a 50 year old with 10+ comorbities who is generally non compliant with everything. expext for maybe the 45 year old after him with 15 comorbities. 🙂. But obviously sub specialized care, like interventional cards, or GI, is not within the FM realm (thought some are trained to drop scopes and learn line placement, etc).

my thoughts exactly, Daisy....they used to have more options but those have been cut off over the years.

and i think everyone has hinted at their choice specialty at one time or another, except Cougs. What it be Cougar?

That's a bummer. I'm not a big fan of rules in general. The only up side of random rules in medicine is that it keeps the supply of doctors artificially low. Unfortunately they also control our pay. Meh, don't feel like talking about that much more right now tho.
