Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What's up in 2015 land? Been busy the last month with work and what not. Full ride scholarship, hollaaaaa'.

I haven't been on facebook in like a year. Too many random acquaintances.

Welcome back and congrats!!! That's serious awesomeness!

Sweet, Torr is joining the facebook group. Awesome.

:lame: Don't believe the hype.

I've never been the jealous type, but now's a good a time as any to start. 😛

I guess I'll make a terrible doctor.

Same here 😀.

With pics please, thanks.

Grrrrrr...

@Torr and @Asyouwereatrio Thx. All the hard work paid off, or maybe that person who helped me with my PS was onto something, lol.

Btw, I hope you are doing well! You've always been one of my favorites. I enjoyed your acceptance day almost as much as my own.

I will continue to cheer for you from the SDN sidelines.🙂
Thanks! Don't be such a stranger around here 🙂 Will it ever be publicly known where you're going to school?

Dude, I understand. I was posting all over those "Is an MD worth 300k" threads. I went through denial, anger, bargaining, depression, then acceptance... then I got a nice award letter. Holllaaaa.😀

Heh. Seriously, that's awesome, though. Just don't go believing in the Rapture some years later. 😉

FINALLY got my financial aid award notice!! 👍

... now I'm kind of nauseous. More than double what I took in all of undergrad, all in one year. aaaaah.

I really wish you hadn't worded it that way, because I'm practically in the same boat (almost double instead of more than) and I didn't even think of it like that until right now. *Gag*

Same here, glass. My first year costs are the equivalent of half of a reasonably nice house, it's galling.

Congrats on your scholarship, MCAT guy! Very jelly.

Nearly double what I took in all of undergrad, equivalent to my entire post-bac. =/ It sucks any way you put it.

But now to spin it to the positive, I'll probably me making at least 10 times what I make now once it's all over and done with. That counts for something, right? 🙂

The visceral reactions we're all having is amusing, though, isn't it? It's not like we didn't know our chosen career paths were going to cost an arm and a leg up-front. 😉

"How do you sleep at night?"
"On top of a pile of money with many beautiful ladies."

I know, but it's different to see an actual number and actually sign the agreements to repay and all that crap. Yipes!

And LOL! What is that from?

ETA: NM, I googled it. Rainier Wolfcastle.

For sure!

Hahaha!

I definitely knew going in it'd be bad - my school isn't quite Tufts but it's still one of the most expensive schools in the country. And Tufts might have more scholarship money to throw around. My problem is only that it's fresh - just looked at my aid award this morning online. I'll be okay once it's settled in. And much more motivated to rock med school.

Yeah, the shock kind of hurts. I think I need a doctor.

All this loan talk -- and I just spent last night figuring out how much I already have in loans and trying to figure how much i need to budget for living expenses.

All my loans from undergrad are for the most part below 2.5%. It is not fair that it will soon be 6.8% and above. But unless I get a scholarship (please please please), it looks like I will be in the 300k club for getting my MD.

Is that for 10 or 12 months? If it's 10, that sounds pretty awesome depending on where you'll be. Our budget is slightly under $23k for Chicago for 10 months.
My Chicago living expenses are just over $20k for 9/10months.
15k for housing/food.
2.5k for personal expenses.
1.5k for transportation.
1.5k for books/supplies.

I'm hoping to somehow only spend 10k with minimal parent support. but then I remembered I might actually need to purchase books (I haven't done that since 10th grade)

The field I'm interested in (and heavily involved in regarding bench research) is radiation oncology. So, my oral presentation will be at the annual American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) meeting this October in Miami Beach! 🙂
Glad I'm not the only one who plans on skipping out on med school for a conference! D.C. in November!

Jealous! Congrats on your award letter! 🙂

Did SDN just have a 3 hour brain freeze?

I'm having some serious Cliff withdrawal today 🙁

Joining the FB group would at least give you an alternative when SDN craps out. Just sayin'.

If it makes you guys feel better, I had no loans from undergrad, so any amount of loan is literally infinitely larger =/

I'm closer to 250, between med school and undergrad/post-bacc. But if it's any consolation, the hubster and I just took on a mortgage between $150 and $200K.

I may have hit a new level of procrastination...

What's the price difference between MCW and Rush?

My back-of-the-envelope math puts MCW at $16k cheaper than Rush ($51k w/in-state resident credit vs $67k). *shrug* In the end, I'd probably go with Hyooston also, but I'd be damned if I said it was an easy decision to make.

I feel like the OP staying on the wait list at GW even until now meant that she'd go there if accepted. That would then make me question why the hell she went through the business of getting an apartment with her BF and letting him find a job in Houston in the first place.

If you guys are bored, there's a pretty nice freak-out moment in response to MCAT guy making a small joke in the "ask an anesthesia resident anything" thread. It's a classic "Internet: srs business" example.

Thanks for the tip-off. How did you know I was bored out of my mind?

SDN really needs more funny.

All medicine, ALL THE TIME.

Awesome! Congrats!

Yea, the conference >>>>>> whatever med school has going on that week. I doubt that the faculty will be mad at me for missing class/whatever to present research stuff. I do kinda wish that the conference was more in the winter though, so I could have a nice escape from the Chicago winter. But I'm not complaining! 🙂
