Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Dammit, Cliff, I really wanted top post today. I order you to delete your post and allow me to take top post (I'm assuming you can delete as a bronze donor, no?).

SDN's been fine for me today.
my SDN just fixed itself.

i would be more than happy to do that for you if i was still a donor. my donation expired and they want more monies from me! proof that SDN is a woman's world (no offense Lee, assuming you're a male).

Now that secondaries are coming out, I keep checking to see the exact moment when the 2011-2012 school specific forum passes our school specific forum for the number of current viewers... To me, that will be the official end of our cycle. Ohhhh this is so exciting! But it's also a little unsettling to not feel any stress at this time of year...

Oh, well. I'm outta here. Time to face the music :d.

Enjoy the rest of the summer 2015ers 😍.

That sucks, man. 🙁
It's all good, just a PITA. Turns out I'm all kinds of lucky this year, what with the almost not graduating and then stealthily catching TB hahaha.

(really not a big deal, gonna cost me a grand total of like $50 to get this TB business taken care of, whatevs. it's better than the dormant beast killing me from the inside one day!)

What? Did you not have a chest x-ray done? Or was that positive as well?
CX-R was negative. Dormant TB. Apparently active TB is like 4+ antibiotics for 9 mo + hospitalization for 1.
Holy crap... you been traveling recently?
Nope. no clue how/when I got it. My previous PPD's have looked/felt the same, but apparently should have been read as positive. Might have potentially had this for a while. I still wonder if it's possible that my (very sensitive) skin is just inflamed, but IDK.

It's not super red/inflamed like most of the positive results I see online. =\

I'm sure you'll be all right, Flow. Have you seen what modern medicine can do? 😉

Yeah I don't think I'm really at risk for it... Maybe I should get a 2nd opinion or something.
Yeah, I'd try to get out of that extremely long abx course. I think it's pretty common for doctors (esp. pulmonologists) to have dormant TB and not have to do anything about it.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nerdgasm!!!!!!
Ya know, tbh, I'm not really a fan of the movies (blasphemy!!).

I love the books and I'm pretty sure I've got every word of every book memorized, but I don't know, I just don't enjoy the movies. The thing I do like about the movies is Emma Watson! 😉

Edit: Flow, did you get a chest x-ray? I've also heard that if that shows up negative, you don't have to do anything.

I freakin' love that literally unbelievable site. I saw it for the first time a couple weeks ago.

That's weird. I had a friend that had a positive PPD, negative x-ray and didn't have to do anything.

I had a questionable PPD once (it didn't look like a real positive but had more of a reaction than you'd expect from a negative test). I had to have a CXR, which came out negative and I didn't need to do anything after that.

TIL Positive TB test = 9 mo of antibiotics.

I've always wondered if the test should be adjusted for people with really pale skin like us. Due to volunteering and med school and research I've had to get 3 series of TB tests over the past 3 years and each time the reaction has been close to measuring >10mm or w/e the cutoff is. A reaction that is apparently stronger than normal isn't necessarily stronger than normal...

I'm so pale that I sometimes look blue... and every time I get a TB shot, it's dispeared within an hour. Nothing. Not even a small internal bump. 😛

Hmm, why do you even react to it so strongly? I doubt your pale skin could have that much of an effect on the diameter of the reaction...You shouldn't one to begin with (in general)..When I get a PPD, it goes away within a few hours....

I always have a positive PPD because I was vaccinated as a child in Africa. I end up having to get a chest X-ray which is always normal.

Are you sure you weren't vaccinated with BCG as a child, FlowRate?

That's what happened on my first one. But between volunteering, research, and now med school, this is like my 4th TB skin test and each time it gets bigger, which is normal...or so a NP told me

Hmmph, that's strange. I too have had 4 PPDs and each time I haven't reacted. Maybe you're being given misinformation by a nurse, I mean, what do they know?! 😛 (jk jk...SERIOUSLY!)

Nurse just tried to correct me. Really? When you are president of the biochemistry club, let's talk. Until then, recognize.

Lol guess I gotta follow him on Twitter and keep my eye out for that ****. 🙂

Thanks Kaushik! Feels soooo good to be here. But of course you already know that 😉

Yesterday I got the second "mailing" (basically packets of info) from Pritzker which largely contained information on anatomy. The course director suggested getting some flash cards and reviewing those over the course of the summer to make the transition less painful. :scared:

That also made this whole med school thing seem real.

That reminds me of one time I presented research to a panel of student government hacks. The one kid said "first of all, I don't believe (point I was proving)" I was like "what? there's pubmed research on this that i linked you to. Multiple papers."

this kid says "trust me, I'm a biochemistry major."

I was bored and trolling so I said.

"I'm a med student."

lulz (I def don't even consider myself a med student until sometime during 1st year when I know something about the human body haha)

Progressive TB indoctrination? hehe

Pretty sure. =\ That's a good point tho.. I'll look through my old shot records instead of the state-issued online ones.

I think it turns out that, to comply with MA immuno law, I have to do the abx course or I get in trouble w/ my school. =\

I keep thinking that I should review the anatomy flashcards that my parents bought me one year. I dunno if they're med-school-detailed, but it would probably be a good idea to have a familiarization with anatomy, given that I never took the course in ug. =\

My school requires a 2 part TB test. First one disappeared immediately. A week later my 2nd one was still negative but lingered and had a much larger radius than any I remember having previously.

Also confused about flow's doc's response to the negative chest xray. I have 2 friends that tested positive on the skin test and negative on xray, and they didn't have to do anything. Negative Xray was always enough. Also, if you tested positive with the skin test make sure you let docs know in the future so they can just do an xray. I've heard it's not a good idea to keep doing skin tests and you'll need proof yearly for the hospitals.

I iz premedz. I noze everything! <insert cute cat that I am too lazy to find>

You're welcome!

I bought a set of Netter's flash cards today...

Yay! I just bought my tickets to the midnight premiere. 😎

I kinda want to buy my copy of Netters (and maybe flashcards, seems like a good idea), but I've decided I'm gonna wait until I move. I figure the fewer things I have to schlep cross-country, the better.

So you doing some pre-studying there Mr. Naylor? 😉
