Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm still chillin' on the Yale waitlist to see what will come of it. I have no intent of matriculating there if I get pulled off... I'm just curious to see if I will.

Am I a tool?

Probably. But at least you have, uh...self-awareness.

I was doing the same with Jeff's WL, but I just withdrew today. I think, if I had expressed any interest in being accepted, sent updates, etc. (they love that stuff) that they would have taken me, but I haven't since I loved Temple so much. I'd honestly rather withdraw than get rejected. That might be even more toolish. 😳

Howdy!

Rogue, I'm now officially following your blog. You're welcome. (You've totally changed my view on unicorns btw.)

So I'm running a 5K tomorrow. I know this race isn't a big deal for most people, but I'm a swimmer not a runner, so this will be my first non-swimming race ever. Woohoo!

Meh, I don't think that's toolish.

This is what I did for one of the schools I was waitlisted at. Like a little "eff you, I don't even want to go here anyway." 😎

Since you are going to reject it immediately if they ever offer you an acceptance, no...it will be nice to know just so you won't wonder about it

The tools are the people who are 99% sure they don't want to go somewhere but they still take the acceptance off the waitlist that other people are waiting for just to dramatically agonize about it for a few days and backdoor-brag about their multiple acceptances in a ________ vs. ________ school specific discussion thread

@cole, yea, a bit.

I will be sure to start one of these threads if I somehow get accepted.

I haven't communicated with the office once since my interview, and they have these "calling hours" where I'm guessing you're supposed to more or less kiss ass that I also haven't utilized. I really don't expect to get pulled off. But it's a social experiment of sorts and would create quite an upheavel in the SDN theory of getting off waitlists if I did manage to get pulled off with no letters of interest/intent/silliness.

Bleargh has a blog???! edit: found it.

Maubs and others, I still haven't taken myself off the Rush waitlist. Don't know why - out of laziness and interest. They really want update letters but I am not sending any. I wouldn't even go there anyways. The kids felt too preppy for me on my interview day.... of course the school I am ending up going to looks like it is its own ghetto. haha.

Whereas I am going there because I secretly long to be one of the preppy kids.

I seriously could have written this ENTIRE post, word for word, about Jeff and Temple.

I knew it!

I do plan on studying with you over at the rush library BTW. You are my in! If you do study there...

UIC's med student area is a dungeon. aka in the basement and falling apart.

and smells of death.... (not)

How long do you spend on those Paint drawings?
the more involved ones take ~30-45 mins? something like this takes about 15 mins

whereas this

CycleJerk.jpg

takes a bit longer because i have to actually look up what the hell a motorcycle looks like to draw it out. i'm a pretty poor artist in general so it's a bit of a challenge. all told i aim to spend ~ 2 hrs per post

I feel like you deserve some type of monetary compensation for your efforts.

But not from me.

I'd like to make a celebrity post on the bleargh blog at some point, but I have to 1. find a topic to rant about and 2. brush up on my Paint skills

Temple is its own ghetto? (I don't know anything about where it is.)

I don't know if you could say it's in its OWN ghetto, but it's in the ghetto. I'd say the area where main campus is located is a bit worse than the health science campus (about a mile north the same major road in Philly) but they are both in one of the worst parts of town. They keep the campuses well-lit at all hours and the police force is very diligent about keeping the area safe, but once you go beyond the campus borders it starts to go downhill fast.

That said, pretty much all North Philly trauma rolls into Temple's ER, and since the area is a lower SEC there are also a lot of people coming to the hospital that have waited too long to seek medical attention and are really sick. So, we'll get to see some pretty cool stuff. They match a pretty high percentage of people into EM and I think it mostly has to do with what the students see during their EM rotation (which is a requirement at Temple, I don't know if that's the case everywhere).

Cole - I just realized you are the face of cigarettes

I feel so silly for not realizing this earlier....
I'm super impressed!

geek - UIC is def it's own ghetto right next to a ghetto. It was the most falling apart school that I saw during the interview trial.

Oh! Gotcha. Yeah, Temple's kind of funny. If you look up a safety map of the city there is a greeen square in a sea of red where the main campus is. The health science campus doesn't show up on this map, though, I'm guessing because it's so much smaller.

You reminded me to go back and check the crime incidents map for Chicago (and specifically where I'm moving to). No big surprises for a city, but then I think about how soft living in suburbia has made me. 🙁

However, their abbreviation for "dangerous" is funny.

That's pretty much the same for USC. The LA private school runs the public hospital (go figure) so I'm expecting to see some crazy stuff. East LA is kind of an unsavory area, but I've never been scared of being there.

WAIT!

Maubs! you ended up in Little Italy!

As South Park would say "you b-****"

In my neighborhood - only 3 people got robbed this past week.

Nick - If you are living around Hyde Park, I am jealous. My pediatrician use to live right next toUofC hospital and his home was gorgeous. Of course.. I ideally want to live in Stony Island... which has the most gorgeous homes, but is riddled with gangs. 🙁

Yeah, I ended up banding together with a couple of other M1s from teh Facebook group. In the end, it turned way better than getting a craptacular studio for the same amount of money I'm plonking down for rent. You're going to be in the neighborhood, no?

yep - in that apartment building you sent me the craigslist ad for. Though I do still need to sign the lease

I'm right next to the Three Aces pub - for drinking.

I sent an email to one of my team leads, one of our principal engineers who's been with the Company for God knows how long and a very senior guy in our organization, notifying him of my last day and transition plans. I closed the email with "if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know." He replied with "Of course I am concerned. You have been a great contributor, someone to be relied on and someone whose opinion I respect."

I has a sad.

Aww. That's so nice to read, though, isn't it? One of my coworkers told me she's tying me to my chair.

It was rather reaffirming. He's fairly hard to get a read on sometimes.

Tying you to your chair, eh? Sounds kinky. 😉 But yeah. At least I've given most of my co-workers enough time to get used to the idea of me leaving.

At lunch we talked about more people leaving for other pastures. So many people getting out ahead of me--don't they know there's a line for the exit? :meanie: And there's a hiring freeze (well, it always feels like there's a hiring freeze), so replacing everyone would suck for the business. *shrug* Not my concern, I guess.

Kind of what's happening to the 2016 thread.

FB chat has destroyed the magic.

I don't think we even have that excuse right now (not that I bothered to involve myself too much in teh chatting).

I'm still never in on this gchat business. I can never stay on one website long enough. I always accidentally close gmail, because it's an utterly worthless waste of a tab for me 😎

Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuys!
Taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalk!

Rereading this made me sad as I imagined a lonely Geekchick. I think this month I'm going to be very predisposed to finding everything sad.
