Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wow...they started it a year ago? Haha

Anyway, I'm back with mcat studying, anyone know what book I should get to help with physics, I just really suck at it and I'm torn between buying EK 1001 physics and TBR physics. I know this isn't the mcat board, but no one ever talks on 4/10 😡 and I know some of you here have taken it before.

I'm hoping NOVA will set me straight after stumbling through EK 🙁

Well its safe to say physics is the pits for me haha. I've never had a good physics teacher and my physics teacher in college loved to talk about how he used physics over the weekend to figure out how to rewire his house... SWEET DUDE, is that on the test? Oh it's not... so why are you telling me this?

I read somewhere that ek 1001 physics was to drill basics into your head, but not good for realistic physics questions on the exam, whereas TBR is one of the best physics setup, but includes content review. Just not sure which to go with, or if I should just get both (sorry for mcat questions haha)

id go with berkeley. I used EK and didnt find the physics to be to helpful for my mcat. in general tbr is one of the better mcat study sets out there.

EK Verbal 101 is one of the best out there though.

Ok, thanks guys 🙂 I have the old ek 101 verbal (with the 60 problems and 9 passages) so there's a lot of practice with that. I'll more than likely go with TBR

I used the EK books and it is a pretty good review. I think that the real MCAT passages were tougher though. I think the biggest difference in the books is really how in depth they go into the material, so which one you get depends on how much time you have to prep.

I don't think any of the problems are like the real things. The best problems to work are the ones on the AAMC exams. Get whichever book you like and do as many of the tests possible.

I probably just had bad luck but all of my teachers and my review book told me not to worry about the names of laws, just know the concepts. Then on the exam I had two separate questions that asked me to name the law after providing the description (boyles law, hess' law, charles' law etc).

Lesson: Just b/c the review book says it isn't emphasized know it anyway.

I have NO idea why the new Kaplan review books are getting such heat. I'm using the NEW 2010 Kaplan books in color, and they are amazing. They are like a glorified version of examkrackers, with a few more details, but still simplistic enough that it won't drive you nuts.

TBR is great for passages though, I'm using that.

Ok 🙂

So, as I usually ask, what's everyone up to tonight? I think I'll get back to mcat studying, finish up any hw I forgot for tomorrow. I also found out today I got picked as 1 of 12 honors students (out of like 200) to be one of the representative for science at a faculty-student panel! Sweet haha

Wow, that's awesome. Congratulations! Just another thing you can add to your long list of accomplishments. 😉

I'm having a good day today too cause I found out that I got hired for a great job opportunity that I wanted! Well, it's back to mcat studying 😴

Yay! Congrats!

I'm about to stop studying molecular biology to go to the lecture for my o-chem lab. It's only a 50 min lecture, but I've got to drive there and it is raining here in socal

In the end it really doesnt matter what books you use as longa s you put in the study time and do practice tests. youll fine tons of people who scored high using all the books.

skip it!!🙂

haha That is definitely the class I'm most likely to skip but we've got a test tomorrow in lab and half the class took it this morning. I'm mostly going so I can get some tips on what to expect from my boy.

In bioengineering. Bored. PChem Pre-lab write up to do tonight. Reading for every class to do. fml.

there there, if it makes u feel any better i havent gone to physio class since the new year started and im really behind on my readings in enviro bio. not to mention i have 6 courses this semester. so ur not alone my friend! but u are alone on the fact that u have to work tonight, i got some starcraft to play =D

I hate TBR verbal! Passages, question stems, and answers are too long.

Pchem lab...what an awful class. 🙁 I feel for you.

Oh, I meant TBR review for physics, but I've decided to get both EK and tbr for physics.

Everytime some of you mention you're in class, I forget that you guys are usually on the other side of the country and I think "Why are they heading to class at 9PM?" haha gotta take a moment and think

Also TPR has good stuff, I took TPR prep class, and it was very helpful.

TBR was awesome - helped me pull up my PS by 3 points.

Me too! A score over 15 would be sweet 😎

/Light hearted not trying to be a dick/

lol pshh...pure luck haha

man, I wish I was just naturally smart with this exam

I had advocated TBR a bunch but now I think their content sections are way too long winded and full of unnecessary info.

TBR - passages = domination
TBR - content section = excessive

I have textbooks to read up deeper on stuff I don't understand. EK/TPR are 100 times better content review... but yeah, TBR passages are amazing.

TPR content is so much clearer and simpler for PS. EK Bio = good review book.

If you guys haven't checked out the new 2010 Kaplan review books in color, at least see if you can check them out from a friend who has them or something. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I seriously think their new Bio book is as good, if not slightly better than EK bio.

I wouldn't be surprised at this. There are Kaplan haters on this site but Kaplan is a great company.

What does Kaplan do?

1. Get all the necessary info in a concise manner
2. Know all the highly tested concepts

After that it is on the TEST TAKER to improve... yes BR passages are the best, but in the end you need to know concepts and then navigate passages. Prep companies are there to make sure you know all the stuff/give you practice.

Kaplan is tip top.

I want the TBR physics stuff, but I feel like its too late to get them since they take so long to ship stuff out etc. Anyone have old TBR physics they want to get rid of?

It shouldn't take more than a week to ship.

Oh, from my understanding I thought it took about 3 weeks for the whole process of ordering til delivery because they only accept check/money order. Is that incorrect?

My memory is fuzzy on this, but when I ordered TBR verbal, I think it took no more than 2 weeks for everything. It certainly didn't take 3 weeks and I live on the east coast. The check thing sucks. I don't understand why they don't make it more efficient and accept credit cards online.

It took me only 1 week to get TBR supplies. Just be very polite with them, that is the key, from my experience.

First things first... WE ARE ON THE SECOND PAGE PEOPLE!!

Second, I just orderd TBR with a money order and it took them a week to receive and process then ship the order. Not too bad considering I mailed it on a Wednesday.

I've heard many great things about TBR so I decided to join the band wagon and buy their books.

I was thinking that if all of us are already posting on the class of 2015 thread, then we should all be the ones submitting the first day/week. No excuses.

Earlier the better.

From reading a lot of threads I noticed that you and Elijah05 applied to a lot of schools. Just curious if there is anywhere you interviewed/checked out that really impressed you (especially if it is a school most people would not think of).

For real, it seems like everyone here will be complete early. Ask for your references, sign up for the MCAT in May or earlier, and do your personal statement before June - and you submit early. Doesn't seem too ambitious, why don't more people apply earlier, am i missing something?

The difference between submitting june 1st and june 8th or w/e is nothing at all. As long as its in june you are fine. If you fill it out all the first day, id recomend waiting a day or two to stay away from it so you can recheck and make sure its all good. I double checked my app before submitting, and I was in the mentality that it HAD to be submitted asap. Then i submitted it on the very 1st day. A week later found a fairly major mistake on it. In the end it didnt hurt me too much but i certianly stressed over it a ton and wish i would have just taken a day or two off from my app before submitting. Submitting June 1st or june 8th is all the same to amcas🙂
