Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
pretty much. the articles were talking about all of these justifications that smokers have for why they smoke and why it's not effecting them like it does other people etc. the people that didnt have such negative results on the tests were more likely to want to quit smoking. silly smokers.

Guys smoke b/c it's cool....

... until you die. Or until you have to push oxygen around the grocery store with you and it takes you 5 minutes to gasp out that you want your wife to put a box of cheerios in the basket on the front of your rascal scooter.

i bet most long term smokers have to resort to cialis/viagra/etc..

dude I think everyone eventually has to resort to viagra.
my old PI used to tell me how he didnt understand why people used it recreationally, and that if he had an erection for too long he was annoyed... dude was healthy as a horse at 63. i'm confident he'll never need it.

👍

The funniest viagra scene was from the movie "I think I love my wife"

It isn't the whole clip, but it start ~36 seconds in...

I legitimately think old men need viagara because of their partners. I can't imagine me being in my 40's and not being aroused by an attractive female.

I've quit smoking twice. Although I do still smoke while I drink except now it's illegal to smoke in bars (f*** granholm) and I hate having to go outside and come back in especially when there's a cover fee etc. so I don't do it as often.

I quit smoking 6 years ago. It has been illegal to smoke indoors in CA since before I was 18. I vaguely remember non-smoking sections in restaurants when I was a kid.

Funny... I quit smoking b/c I was planning to be a firefighter.

I noticed myself resorting to this today:

I have now started to avoid starting conversations about school and the future and careers with women and instead strictly try to stick to conversation that shows their personality to make sure I match up with them from a personality standpoint because if I find out a girl has big dreams or is really smart it gets me excited and I start to like them without actually knowing if they would be a good fit for me or not.

^^^ I hate how analytical I've become about relationships.

Weren't you the one who wanted a trophy wife? Successful women won't put up with that ****... or are you planning to crush one's dreams and mold her into your perfect mate?

haha yeah we are the slimfast/avocado/granola state! I am surprised it took this long for smoking to be banned in NC! I thought every state was smoke free inside. wow.

This is true as well. Although I've noticed in the Winter I go to more parties (strangely) and in the summer I don't party nearly as much but I go to a bar like once a month. In the summer all my friends from my christian high school come back to town and when they throw parties there's no drinking and no grass. Like we'll have a bonfire, and we'll all be sober (except I go drunk because I can't stand that crowd). It's not that bad though, you can still have fun when you're not drinking. Not gonna lie though, it's hella awkward sometimes when people's parents realize how inebriated you are at their home.

That's good that you quit though. I quit in high school because football season started back up and I quit recently because I hated coughing up phlegm in the morning.

Still smoke hooka once in a while though, it tastes like candy.

They don't stamp your hand or give you a wrist band? Jeez, paying cover twice to smoke sounds nuts.. especially for such an expensive habit to begin with.

(full disclosure: non-smoker)

sounds like a cue to 1) find new friends or 2) forget about those people... either way, you win.

The trophy wife was a little sarcastic lol, I just feel it necessary because my mom may be a trophy wife and because of the whole future doctor thing.

Not gonna lie though, everytime I see a milf my first thought always is, "I wouldn't mind my wife looking like that at her age". And due to my dating history, neither I nor those who know me would be surprised if I did end up marrying a woman classified as a trophy wife because I would rather have a stay-at-home wife than a working wife and I've been known to have exquisite taste in women.

On a side note, it's crazy how many girls have nude pics on the internet. I feel like every girl has nude pics on the internet and you just have to look real hard to find them.

Kinda weird looking for a wife like your mom dude

By any chance will you be going into plastic surgery, dermatology, or cardiology?

They do the stamp, but who remembers to get stamped when their smashed? Plus usually when there is a cover I feel like there's a line outside (maybe just certain places) and I hate watching the people stand outside in the cold waiting in line while they want to be inside and I'm actually going outside even though I'm allowed inside. It's like the guy who bought the PS3 and went outside and smashed it in front of everyone waiting in line.

sounds like a cue to 1) find new friends or 2) forget about those people... either way, you win.

They are good people. I like good people. I just wish some of the females weren't as stuck up and prude. Example: We are all celebrating a friend's birthday and I bring cigars. We are in one of the girls backyards and she flips a s**t at me for bringing cigars. Every guy wanted to have one, but was too scared due to the nature of these females. Me? I lit up my stogy because I don't actually care what these 4-5 girls think of me.

That brings the realization that I really like my male friends from high school and have a strong distaste for my female friends from back then.

just remind them that their parents aren't virgins.

I don't think I could do plastics, but derm and cardio all day.

I wonder what the ratio of girls who go to college and end up as stay at home moms are compared to the girls who go to college and work full-time even after they have kids? For that matter either sex, is it worth going to college if you are going to stay at home?

Like if I spend $60k on a degree for a 60k a year job. And work 2-3 years until I have kids. That's $180k I will have made before I stay at home minus the $60k it cost for the degree. So $120k. If I skip college and just work full-time at minimum wage-ish and bring home $35k a year for 7 years that's $210k over the same amount of time...

I'm pretty sure some people that I know should have saved their money and not gone to school. Especially people getting a degree in communications or other degrees that they don't know what kind've job they will actually get with.

Haha. What's funny is that one of the girl's parents started dating in high school and stayed together (never broke up ever) and got married and are together until now. I'm pretty sure they expected their daughter to do the same, so whenever a guy started talking to the girl they would get really weirded out by her parents talking about marriage etc.

I love the mindset of kids that grew up in really really really rich households. I mean, it would be hypocritical of me to say I didn't grow up rich in Obama's standard of a rich household, but at the same time, my parents didn't have real money until I started high school. But it's crazy how hard some of these kids' parents work, yet their kids are lazy and don't want to do anything significant in their lives. Yet the ones who got made fun of for having financial aid to our high school are the ones who are busting their butts and getting the $10k/summer job and the internships in Washington D.C. etc.

These days it seems like a two income family is required. However, I live in CA and **** is crazy out here.

Especially in the U.S. going to college is about more than what you learn and how much you will make as a result... people want "the college experience."

I agree that a lot of the things you could get a degree in don't automatically result in high paying jobs ---> I'm looking at you history & communications majors 😛

Rh1no, I like the point you brought up with the inequality thread.

I think realistically, if my parents made $30k a year or something around there I would feel inclined to begin working immediately to help them out if their not making it or to raise our standard of living etc. But when you see your parents making 6 figures and you have no monetary worries, it's easy to go to school for 8 years and put yourself in $200k debt because you know that your parents will be able to take care of you if **** hits the fan.

At the same time, people who make 6 figures can send their children to better high schools and better colleges which help prepare the students more. I don't think kids that come from wealthy families are more intelligent than kids that don't, but I think that there is a possibility that they score higher on standardized tests just due to better preparation. When I moved from the public school system to a private school I got my s**t rocked and had to catch up with everyone else and realized that the classes moved at a much faster pace and covered much more material. And this was just the difference between 2 high schools in the same neighborhood, one costing being private and one being public.

Thanks... it was something that I've thought about. I think that if you come from an affluent background it provides you certain advantages. I don't begrudge anyone anything though, because that persons parents (or relative) had to sacrifice to provide those things for their child... and I would do the same in that position. However, I think that just the cost of applying is ridiculous and puts the less fortunate at a disadvantage.

I agree with the whole pursuit of the college experience. At the same time, a school like mine doesn't have the college experience, more than 80% of the students commute. That may explain why so many people drop out after first semester or transfer.

I just think there is a lot of pressure to go to college. I really don't think college is for everyone, I think certain people do need to pickup a trade such as plumbing or being an auto mechanic. It probably sounds really mean, but I can tell you of at least 20 students who I had thought wouldn't last a year in college and it sucks because only 1-2 of them are actually still in college. The same goes for the kids from the class of 2009 in high school, (I was class of 08), I was asked to go back to my high school and talk about pre-med pre-professional and I told them there has to be some sacrifice made in order to receive good grades etc. Yet the couple kids that came to Oakland didn't study at all and ruined their GPAs. It's a shame.

You are talking about ambition and social class, two different things.

And yes, more opportunity may lead to better results. Sure.

I agree, the costs are ridiculous and it seems as though they actually want to weed out people who cannot afford tuition for some reason.

Another crazy stat on the MSAR is the average debt of the graduating med-student from each school. Some of these schools have tuition of 40-60k a year, yet their average debt is $100k... And you know they don't give away that many scholarships.

I think a small but significant percentage is students whose parents are doctors. They go to medical school and their parents make a good amount.

But yeah I agree, if I was in the situation where my parents didn't have money in the bank and I had to take loans just to get money for secondary fees and to pay for my MCAT I probably would be really demoralized or discouraged.

Yeah Freud said a lot of crazy ****... but even a broken clock is right twice a day... and apparently he was right in Oaks case.

Haha Freud. I don't think I want a wife like my mother as much as I want to be as big of a bo$$ as my father.

You are talking about ambition and social class, two different things.

Ambition and social class are different this is true. I know all people work different too, I just find it interesting. Like me personally, when I see people studying and working hard it motivates me to do the same. When I see my parents pulling long hours it makes me appreciate their work and makes me want to work harder for my grades. I guess other people may take those things for granted or view them from a different perspective.

True... then the Paris Hiltons and Kim Kardashians show that even money can't keep you from being a... eh hem... less than classy person or independently successful.

Oak was commenting on my thread that discussed the average medical students parental income is $164K and the median household income (for 4 people) is $70K... big disparity, which the MSAR says amcas would like to correct. I just pointed out that by charging a ridiculous amount to apply they are failing... miserably.

It is because for every student taking out loans there is a student whose parents foot the bill... they average 200K & 0.00 = 100K

I do think the fees are ridiculous.

I hope that when they say they are trying to correct the disparity it doesn't mean that I end up being the worst possible applicant because I'm not a URM and my parents are wealthy lol.

It makes sense when the average income is 160k. That's still pretty crazy though.

Edit: that was probably inappropriate.

I would be really excited if my parents decided to spot me $200k for med-school.

I don't think you have anything to worry about bro... the rich people reserve the option to discriminate as they see fit.... nobody gets to discriminate against them b/c they have all of the power.

lol.

The weirdest Freudian thing is the kid wanting to bang his mom and being jealous of his father. I don't get how he can understand that people subconsciously think that.

I didn't know that, but am not surprised. AMCAS doesn't really want to correct it, the expectations of the applicant are ridiculously high and higher income individuals will be better able to meet those expectations.

The applicant has and continues to evolve.

Watch them put another type of URM on the app. UROW, Under Represented On Welfare.

Realistically I don't think they should at all judge an applicant by their parents salary unless they were truly burdened by having who parents who did not make an adequate salary. But I hope that they never start choosing applicants based on things they can't personally control (well I guess no one can control race, but things other than race). Like it's not my fault my parents make bank, I still think I would have the same GPA in college and probably would've had a higher one in high school had I gone to a public school.

Really? Maybe you should re-read your post above.

Nawww dude, jealousy and respect are two different things.

Plus he said something along the lines of wanting to kill your father. Man when I was a kid I loved going fishing and camping with the pops.
