Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
lol i never ever want anymore kids. One is more then enough for a lifetime. I think geek is crazy with her 3 kids idea or w/e!

as far as fav movie...i think anchorman ranks up there for me. Its a classic 🙂

Oh, I KNOW I'm crazy.

And we've always talked about 4. I wouldn't be opposed to 5, and I'm sure we won't stop at any less than three. Really, I get the impression that you'll know when your family feels complete.

So my non-science letter writer is officially a week late (actually more like a month late compared to when he originally told me it would be uploaded...) I still hate this part of the process and I'm sure I'll hate it 4 years from now, too.

Perfect time to send a gushing thank you note with a Coffee Bean gift card inside to "gently" remind him.

Word, man. My advisor got all of the letters for my composite by April 29th. I sent him the request THAT day. Then I asked him a week ago and he said he never got it (I know he did). I sent it again, he said the letter was already done and that he'd upload this past week. Did he? No.

I know we don't need it yet, but it pisses me off.

Now my transcripts are another story. I threw the requests in the mail a week and a half ago. As far as I can tell, either AMCAS or AACOMAS got them yet. WTF? Really? I get to call and bitch at every school on Monday.

Yeah, the transcript thing is so annoying. One of my grad schools REFUSES to accept requests via fax, so it is either snail mail them with a check (and I refuse to write a check for 5 dollars) or go in person. So, I make the 70 mile trek because even when I go in person, and they PROMISE it is going out in today's mail, theirs always arrives last of the 7. Every. Freaking. Time. This time, every other transcript hit AMCAS within 5 days. Theirs took 22. WTF.

Why doesn't AMCAS have a "real" address to accept FedEx? It would solve a lot of my problems if I could point to the FedEx tracking number and say "See?? This is why you SUCK".

It if takes 22 days I am going to have to cutabitch, seriously.

I'm calling all of the schools tomorrow and ask them WTF is up. I checked the box on one of my transcript request forms to be e-mailed both when they received it and when they mailed the transcript. I've gotten nothing, but judging the way they handled getting a transcript to ME, I wouldn't be surprised if they got it and just didn't send it. I mailed the stuff the Wednesday before Memorial Day.

I love getting PMs from people that are either complementary, or thanking me for a link I posted or some advice I gave. It gives me the warm fuzzies.

Grazie! I really appreciate that.

Alrighty, I'm falling asleep at the wheel here. G'night, everyone!

Yeah, I'm not a fan. My solution has been to ask for the letters way early and to request more than I actually need. I still have a letter missing, but since it's nonessential I'm a little less stressed.

I second the motion for a motivational gift.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

My AMCAS is pretty much done. I may throw one more EC on there but other than that, I've completed it. I don't have my LOR's yet, but I know I don't need them to submit.

I also know I don't need my transcripts to submit (right?) but it won't be verified until they receive them. But do you think if I submit before they have them, there's a better chance of my app being verified sooner? Or do you think they won't even add me to the queue til they have them all?

I doubt they will put you in the queue to be verified until your transcripts are received 🙁, because it seems like that is the only thing they actually verify. You can call and ask though, I talked to the amcas folks a few times and in general they are pretty helpful.

I know for a fact that whether or not you designate your LOR before or after they are recieved makes no difference. They also told me that once you add a LOR it is made available to the schools basically instantaneously (so you don't have to wait to be "re-verified" once you add the letters 👍). So not having your LOR before you submit makes no difference.

Edit: That probably didn't shed light on things the way you were hoping... but this whole process is like navigating deep space with a pen light and a walkie talkie.

haha, yeah I'm ~65% sure I don't want anymore kids. I'll be 38 by the time my son turns 18 and goes off to college. I'm ready to travel and have some fun after that happens. Plus I should actually be making money by then 🙂.

don't forget about our practice.

msb, we need to do these in our practice... http://drbugbee.com/
This guys does these where I work... it is pretty awesome. Basically instead of a prosthetic joint they implant donor bone/cartilage. Cutting edge stuff that lets this guy travel around the world and lecture.

Firstly, at the bolded section.

Secondly, thanks, man. That's kinda what I figured. Wishful thinking that submitting before my transcripts are in will affect how quickly it gets verified once they are. I can't wait to not have to be bothered with these old schools anymore.

Okay, another question maybe some of you can answer from experience. Did you request your transcripts via snail mail or fax? Does the AMCAS/AACOMAS accept faxed copies of their request form that's supposed to be mail with the transcripts?

I went in person to all my schools except one. To that one, I faxed (I highly recommend the same, since you get a sort of 'receipt') the AMCAS form as well as the internal form, immediately after I spoke on the phone with a person at the registrar's office telling them I need the AMCAS form attached. Worked well enough

i did it all in person except one school which i faxed. I never had any issues so i feel bad for you geekmama🙁. That was probably the least painful part of the app process. And unless mine was a fluke, yes they accept faxed copies.

thanks, Elijah. It's really infuriating.

Only 2 of my schools are a sane driving distance. One of which I did drop it off in person, the other I mailed because I wouldn't have a chance to make the drive when they were open for a few days anyway. The other two are in NYC and the main campus (where the transcript needs to be sent) is 4 hours or so away.

So it looks like I'm calling Monday and if I need to send them again, I'm faxing them on Tuesday as soon as I get to work.

I faxed 4 of mine and they were the ones that got there first. A couple of them call immediately after they get the fax to verify which is nice, and tell me when they are going out. On the transcript form I reiterate that the additional I am faxing with it must be attached to the transcripts. Then I say thank you with a bunch of exclamation points and put a smiley face at the bottom🙂

Somehow, the faxed ones usually get there faster than the in person ones. I guess I make a better fax impression.🙂 Or it could be that I fax at 7am so it is the first thing they see in the morning and they take care of it right away.

woot. guess i'll throw myself in the mix. submitted my amcas yesterday morning so that makes me *hopefully* a future 2015-er.

aaand as for transcripts. i did 2 in person, and since the last was 3,000 miles away i used the online transcript request for the school and didn't attach the amcas cover sheet. that worked out though. guess i got lucky!! :luck:

with this and dr. andrews, i think we'll be fine. haha
This thread needs some serious work. WE MUST BEAT 2014.
you have the most beautiful signature on sdn.

I had 5 schools I had to request transcripts from. Only 1 of which I used the AMCAS form. The rest had an option of requesting my transcripts online and they were far away, which is why I didn't use the AMCAS form. I actually called AMCAS too, and they said that using their request form is optional and not required. All of my transcripts made it to AMCAS and were associated with my app fairly quickly.

If you end up not using the AMCAS form for any school (or even if you do) I would suggest adding your school ID #'s to your app in the optional ID # section. That way it makes it easier to match your transcripts if the form isn't included (even if you send it you never know if the school actually uses it... you already know some people are incompetent).

have you guys ever partied with old people and had a really good time and then thought to yourself "dammit, this means i'm getting old..." haha

You know we spend way too much time on SDN when we remember exactly when Oak said that haha. I could think of a few other gems that he said that could be used as signatures as well.

Wonder where that guy has been... and curbye... and artimacia...

oakland has probably been trying to mack at church functions

 yeah I've had that thought before, but I'm of the opinion that when you get older you are more practiced at having fun and you usually have the financial means to do so.

yeah, this is true. having the means to have fun makes a huge difference.

I've got one last tip for filling out AMCAS for people still waiting on letters. Go through and designate your LOR before they arrive (as long as you are sure your writers will eventually send them out). It took me ~2 hours to review all of the school websites to make sure I was meeting their requirements, so it is worth while doing it ahead of time. When I did it I was still waiting on 1 letter (the original letter wasn't signed so it had to be fixed). Then once the LOR arrived, it was nice being done and having my app complete without having to anything else. My advice is to do everything that you can on your end right away, even if you have to wait on other people.

absurd.

hows your weekend been?

meh, I'm taking my finals monday & tuesday so I've been studying... plus I got called into work last night from 6-midnight. I'll be happy once I'm done with these classes, they were pretty rough this quarter... mostly b/c I submitted my transcripts without them ----> senioritis to the max

How about you?

word. i feel you on the senioritis. i had a bad case of it in the fall, but somehow forced myself to study my ass off for finals. pretty good weekend though just hung out at friends houses which was a good change of pace and saved a lot of money compared to going out.

I'm all about saving money lately, b/c AMCAS is robbing me. I know, I know it is an investment in myself 🙄. I feel like Scrooge Mcduck though.

Did you already do your re-take or are you still studying? ... or decide to roll with what you got?

Crap, damn, fart! If I had known it was optional, I would have requested some of them entirely online. Balls.

Oh well, can't find out anything about it today. Gonna save the stressing for tomorrow.

there is an outside shot i'll get love with what i've got, but i'm retaking in july. tomorrow i'm getting back to the hardcore studying... ewwww. i needed this time off though and just de-stress and change my approach and relax.

damn there is a big audience in here right now. what's good folks!?

Yeah amcas makes it sound like the form is mandatory while you're filling out the app 👎

That is a bummer... I hope those people get off their azzes for you. I'm sure you will be 100% fine though 🙂

This is my first day off in almost 3 weeks.

I can't seem to get out of bed🙂
that's how i've been for about a week now. there's too many things in limbo for me to be motivated... its starting to suck.

it supposedly makes the matching easier, and you KNOW they're really starting to come in now..

Hey, is anyone in this thread from Philly/lived in Philly? I had a really interesting convo about Philly and diversity yesterday. I would be curious to get more opinions. I really don't want to go to school in a segregated place again.
