Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I mean, you'll probably be alright - not that many schools screen.

I'm not so much writing anything specific as I am thinking of ways I'm diverse and writing about a difficult situation. And crying over the aforementioned Duke essays.

And by writing I mean thinking of writing. My secondary essays are pretty much a blinking cursor on a white screen right now.

that was me on my PS for a week

good luck not that you need it with your sick mcat. 🙂

dude i know. All us cali kids not only get arguably some of the worst pre med advising (from all UC schools), but we also have to kiss ass and get individual letters since packets dont exist for us 🙁.

I don't understand why the UCs leave us hanging. There are tons of applicants from the UC system... they need to invest in a decent committee and/or letter service. I think it is a ridiculous expectation that we would get to really know 3+ professors well when our classes are 300-500 people per class. We also don't have designated advisors... every time I go to talk to someone it is somebody different (and they're usually incompetent bureaucrats). It's funny too, b/c most of the kids I see buddying up to the profs are the same kids asking stupid question after stupid question in class...

The UCs offer great opportunities with little/no personal attention 👎

I'm not thrilled about my PoS but I don't care. That's me. That's how I wound up decided on medical school. Take it or leave it.

Poll time: What do you think are the 2 or 3 strongest and weakest parts of your app?

Strongest: MCAT, a lot of clinical experience, and the fact that I'm a non-trad with an unconventional undergraduate major.

Weakest: Not a lot of research or volunteering. No official shadowing (I got to observe a lot during clinical experience, though, and I tried to make that clear in the description). I don't even want to KNOW what my AO-GPA is.

weakest - definitely my MCAT...stupid test. one day i will work on that committee and change things; also maybe my GPA, although its not that bad (thanks to a few classes that pretty much screwed it all up)
strongest - volunteering, research, and maybe my ECs? I think my personal statement is pretty good too but who knows how much weight that has

strongest: mcat, ECs (esp research), pretty different life story
weakest. gpa, gpa, gpa.

strongest: gpa, volunteering, non-science major/year off between undergrad and applying (word is OHSU really likes that)

weakest: MCAT, only research experience is in psychology

I've been going through a lot of threads today. It really sucks you in. Now I'm trying not to get overwhelmed lol.

Strongest: leadership, research, and being "well-rounded"

Weakest: I'm a little bit concerned about my clinical experience in comparison to some people with 500+ hours. I've spent a lot of time in the hospital, but since a lot has been with my rents I think they'll count it less. Also, with such a research-heavy app I think they might want to know why I'm not applying MD/PhD.

Strongest: Great sGPA & cGPA, really diverse and extensive ECs (covering: clinical 5000+ hours, research 1000+ hours, & volunteering 1000+ hours), and non-trad 👍

Weakest: low 30's mcat, 2 semester withdrawals from 10 years ago, and 3 D's in autoshop in high school which was affiliated with a cc (I was a dummy back then) 👎

strongest: leadership, clinical experience, MCAT
weakest: gpa, research, non medical volunteering

Weakest: I have to think about this one a bit, let me get back to you.

man, im not taking a year off but i hope OHSU looks passed that. I think im mature enough not to need a year off, not to mention i'm graduating early

Nice.

Now I'm gonna have to go scope out your school list to see where I don't have a chance. 🙂

I'm sure that would come through in your interview. I think it's more they want to see that you've thought your decision to apply through.

you guys will be surprised how little of these weaknesses may matter after you finish and get past the whole nervous/freakout moment of applying/interviewing🙂.

That being said while it doesnt matter for me im bored at work so...

strongest : very unique/interesting story that they rarely, if ever see (i remember at one interview she told me my story should be an inspirational disney movie haha), tons of clinical exp (near 10k hours? Idk i did a ton becuase i did clinical research for 2 years) that experience was far more then research and def put me over the top i think, at least thats what i was told at a few schools. Lastly, i guess a strong upward GPA for 4 years.

weaknesses: A million haha...i guess no publications even though research for 2 years in same lab, <30 mcat, almost no non clinical volunteering (though tons of clinical) outside of a 3 month activity, little leadership really.

Your pep talks are always so helpful. 🙂

1. Strongest - Clinical experience, LORs, ECs
2. Weakest - GPA, (no) research, (no) mcat (score yet)

🙁

Strongest: MCAT, Science and Post-Bacc GPAs, interesting and diverse ECs, Great LORs

Weakest: Undergrad GPA and overall stink, so does my clinical experience.

Nice.

haha, I'm probably not applying to the prestigious places you are 🙂

how early are you graduating? i'm one semester

i'm on a quarter system, so after taking a summer class, i should be finished in the fall quarter....depending on how i feel when it gets closer, i might push it back and take an easy fall and winter quarter and just smooth sail senior year.

Pop Ice is one of the best inventions evvva.

verizon phones are down in my area....getting really annoying. :lame:

How are we all doing this beautiful summer night?
Good! Nightly chores are done. We just ordered HBO so we can watch True Blood (season 2 on demand, then season 3) then we'll probably cancel it again in a few months. HA!

Love HBO... 😍

Sex in the City
Sopranos
Tudors
Entourage
The Wire
Real Sex
Taxi Cap Confessions
The Bunny Ranch
Life stories: Families in Crisis
all the documentaries....

For the record, I would like to state that the timing of the degradation of conversation to sexual topics with my arrival in this thread is purely coincidental.

oh no no no, you simply amplified it, but nice try taking credit lol

I cannot WAIT for HBO to go the way of the internet....we will get to pay a lot monthly fee to subscribe to HBO shows and watch them online. It will be glorious.

you can watch almost any of these shows online if you don't mind breaking the law :scared:

My doctor says I am not allowed to eat food that comes off of trucks. Or engage in activities where balls are flying at my face.

anyone know a way of bypassing megavideo's 72 minute viewing limit? I intend to watch only extended user-created content.

Just finished watching season 1 and starting on season 2. I LOVE this show. Even though most of the time I don't understand half of what's going on. I also enjoy how Dominic West is British, and you can sometimes hear his accent.
