Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A ~3.6 GPA and ~33 on the MCAT garners an 83% acceptance rate (according to the last 3 year aggregate of data). This is regardless of time turned in. So if you completed in September with these #'s you still have an 80% chance. Early is good but it won't significantly change your chances (my guess? ~5% max affect; negligible). Truth is, it's everyone best guess as each adcom is different. There is no data that strongly supports either opinion.

Most of what you said is understood. What I quoted is wrong. Guaranteed. No I don't have "hard data" for you, but I have 110% certainty.

Now I just need to rock the MCAT tomorrow.....

Dang......I sorta had high hopes for Spain.

and yellow cards in stoppage time? PLEASE. 🙄

Verified. I submitted 6/6...You should be next Geekchick921!

I hope so! I submitted a week ago, but they didn't get all of my transcripts until yesterday, so we'll see.

WOOT! When did you submit again?

6/7 at 9pm, so it took just about a week. felt longer though... gonna be a looooooong year

sweetness.

sort of. they counted one of my classes as BCPM that i marked down as HEAL, which brought down my sci GPA by a lot. so i'm kinda annoyed, will at least appeal it.

Congrats! now it's time to :scared: 😀

ugh. ferreals

any of you beautiful people want to read over a couple of secondary responses for me?

I hate that studying lately is about getting an A instead of learning🙁

If I get an A on my math test tomorrow I can fail the third test (which will then be dropped) relieving a little pressure. Of course I would never fail it, but I can get a B, which takes the pressure off.

But all I want to be doing right now is writing secondaries. Please remind me that 48 more hours will not make a difference. Nicely, of course🙂

Also, if anyone is a verbal learner and understands calculus really well and is willing to talk to me on the phone for 15 mins or so about translating what you know about f(x) to f'(x) in graph form....PM me🙂 I am not a visual person and I am having trouble understanding the concepts. I can do the math....I just am not connecting with it.

also for the next month or so while im not in school if any of you needed 2ndaries read/feedback id be glad to help. I work 2 jobs but literally for 12 hours a day or so at work im just doing nothing since my jobs are boring and actually often require me to do nothing. Gotta love retail! I know its odd lol but regardless it gives me something to do at work so i dont mind helping🙂. Hopefully i dont suck at it, maybe cliff can tell you if i suck at it and you shouldnt have me read them lol 😛

And yoga i hear you on the classes part. The process makes you into a memorizing machine more then anything. There are several classes where i wanted to go more in depth and actually learn but couldnt. No one cares on the adcom if you leanred, they just care you can memorize/prioritize your time enough to get As 🙁. Too bad im a loser at math or id help you . I defiantly short term memorized calc, that stuff is long gone i dont even remember anything from calc except the word limit, derivative, and integral

I will totally take you up on that. My other reader gets a happy hour drink and snack for every 2 apps she reads for me. Do you require the same?🙂

well have to work out something like that! 😛. If its like last year, next week you should be getting some 2ndaries i believe.

You've got to trust your instinct
And let go of regret
You've got to bet on yourself now starrrr
'Cause that's your best bet

Watch me now with a wicked and wild and I said
We come with the funky style that gets us known for the show
And we'll mix the hip hop reggae if we say it is so

And **** the naysayers cause they don't mean a thing
Cause this is what style we bring

Now it's morning but last night's on my mind
There's something I need to get off my chest
And no matter what may come to shine
The dream will always be mine

All mixed up, you don't know what to do
Next thing you turn around and find the person is you
Thought a freak might be the thing
But the first could be the last, so just get off of your ass.

That is one of my karaoke songs 😍

Well, he's slightly off. It's 80.6% acceptance rate for students with a 3.60 to 3.79 GPA and a 33-35 MCAT.
http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/applicantmatriculant/table24-mcatgpagridall2007-09.pdf

you're right, I had the 05-07 chart up (where my #'s came from).👍

Most of what you said is understood. What I quoted is wrong. Guaranteed. No I don't have "hard data" for you, but I have 110% certainty.

Certainty is a feeling, if you had 80% certainty it wouldn't make you more or less correct. My only contention was that, for most schools (this can be read as, >50%), there is no difference in completing in mid-August or July. You can say your certain, and I can say I'm certain. My info is from a guy who ran admissions for over a decade at a school I'm applying to (retired guys love to talk).

I think you're certain that early is best (no one would argue with that), the problem is that SDN's definition of early in June 1st, while the rest of the world is around in August when school starts up (this is actually when lots start going over the apps).

I respectfully disagree and we can end it there, I don't expect you to agree with me.

On a side note, if I had to say what the admissions pie looked like, I would say 50% #'s (GPA/MCAT) ~40% (You: Interview/PS/looks/personality/secondaries/ECs) and ~10% application timing (saying september'ish latest).

As for you FlowRate, I honestly believe with your stats and assuming you have a decently well rounded app, that if you submitted in late September you would still gain 80-90%+ of the acceptances you gain.

My post length has really increased since I realized that, when posting I can avoid studying for the MCAT.

f'(x) at x will be the slope of f(x) at x

(I don't want to complicate it any more by saying anything else unless you have more questions lol)

You misunderstand and I'm only arguing because what I quoted was advice/"fact" that was incorrect and, more importantly, potentially dangerously misleading.

You said that submitting in September would give you the same chance as submitting in early June. I contend and feel entirely sure (again, I don't have data, but that doesn't matter--I have the plural of anecdote which IS data) that this is not true at all.

So anyone who read Don's earlier post and thought "hey I can just wait until September": Be submitted by early July if possible. You want to be verified and complete before mid August.

(the diff b/t submitting in late july and early august is obviously less substantial, but that's not the point)

Edit: I don't mean this post disrespectfully at all, I just don't want other people getting bad ideas and losing at the admissions game for silly reasons.

If you read my whole post, the recommendation was early-mid August.

I did state that September would be similar chances (my own opinion). I'm using the term "complete" where you are using submitted. You can't complete in early June at most schools (if not all?). Your submission date doesn't really come into play here.

No disrespect taken. I respect your intentions.

I'm trying to do the same thing as you. I don't want people to feel bad if they submit early/mid-August.

Not in what I replied to earlier. (see above B+U)

I edited. I did see myself slip the word September in (my point there was that your chances would have dropped from my original 83% #'s I stated but not significantly, i.e. ~5%). But again, the post read in entirety was recommending early-mid August if you read it again.

Good luck bro.

Btw, I think it's funny that the people most hyped about time I've seen on here are the 4.0/40 club (like you, 3.9 / 39). Which I am definitely not a member of.

It's like super model chicks that are constantly worried out about how fat they are.

Back to MCAT. You will probably get accepted to like 10 schools.

I posted this in the Columbia App thread, but maybe someone here knows the answer....

For those of you who have filled out this secondary before, have any of you had the issue where you attended the same school twice with a large gap? Like, a courses at a community college or something? Do I list the school twice with two different dates of attendance like on AMCAS, or do I list it once with one huge date range? The secondary does not have a lot of space for schools, and I would hate to unnecessarily upload a separate document listing schools attended.

i spent two different chunks of time at my degree granting institution because of a transfer. i just listed the time as one big gap though.

Thanks.

14 years at one school sure looks weird though....🙂

 Just a little.

But honestly, I'm sure they'll figure it out. 🙂 Also, do you plan to submit the Columbia app before you get the e-mail?

Nah....both because of time and politeness. I hope to be done so that the moment I get the email, I can submit though🙂

I cant find my new horseshoe crab. 🙁

Thanks.

you list it as one school or one gap. It looks weird but they get it trust me. Most 2ndaries ask you to explain gaps in education anyways. If it makes you worry less, according to my amcas application, i spent 8 years in community college before lol. I took 2 classes in HS then a large gap before reattending the same school before transferring. No one cared really doubt it matters🙂.

Thanks guys🙂

I am having a high stress day...someone please remind me not to post or READ outside of this thread. Ever. Ever ever.

:nono: Don't do it, Yoga!

It's bad for your health.

no wai, mixing it up with the schmucks is where the entertainment comes from
I don't need that kind of entertainment🙂

I left my dog out while I ran to the store and she ate a bag of hot dog buns. Totally my fault, but still. Not sure if I should feed her dinner or not. She still is pretending she is hungry.
