How many of you would take Robyn Young, the 2010 SDN scholar, out on a date?

I think this line of questioning is a bit inappropriate and stalkerish...

Seems like an interesting young lady and congrats to her.

That's an interesting take on the question.

I don't think whimsical is going to go stalk Robyn now.

I hate when family members ask to borrow money. Though Im sure they hate asking...

Totally rooting for Mexico tomorrow!

I didn't mean it like that lol.

I just thought it was awkward to be discussing whether we'd date someone who's from an article on SDN. Must be flattering to her nonetheless lol.

Yeah, I was about to say... :meanie:

No, but I get that the question's a little weird. As long as we all say nice things. 🙂

mexico isnt til tuesday

Man, France has imploded or what? Madness in that camp.

My picks for tomorrow:
Portugal 2-0 over North Korea (though I'd love for Portugal to lose)
Chile 1-1 Switzerland, these two teams will cancel each other out
Spain 3-1 Honduras, Spanish rebound after their abysmal display

man I'm just having a bad day.

After my lil argument with Rhino (hopefully no hard feelings there), I went home to find that one of my fish had died in the tank and the other jumped out of the tank and died (two separate tanks). 🙁

I don't really talk to anyone about my med school plans but I confided this weekend to one of my all time favorite moonlight doctors, a pulmonology/intensivist fellow. On the outside it appears that she loves her job and she's very very smart. I just found out that she actually feels betrayed, mislead, trapped, etc. She encouraged me to think really hard and ask around a lot. God. I hate all those threads where people say negative stuff like this but I was honestly shocked by her comments. Now I feel really sad.

Hoody,

I think a lot of physicians who make these posts are sometimes naive. While there are many "cake" jobs out there, almost every profession has very difficult challenges and many people who hate the job. Many of these people have been medicine forever (like the SDN High School club... lol, I could never imagine SDN'ing since high school).

Especially jobs that pay over 100k a year. Of course there are those few jobs that are amazing and low stress but if you asked a bunch of engineers in challenging positions what their thoughts were, you would find just as many who hate it... lawyers, same. We could go on all day.

Typically happiness isn't dependent on your profession, but instead on the type of person you are.

And the people who are in specialties that are so demanding... If you knew that XYZ specialty was twice as demanding as another specialty, then why not take the lighter load? Why go into a time intensive specialty if you don't handle a lot of stress/responsibility?

Last note: The complainers are always louder than the satisfied. Rarely do the satisfied people come make a thread, they are enjoying life.

If there's anything that I've learned, it's that there are always going to be people who are unhappy and those who are thrilled with their career choices (in any field). I think it's good to listen to the objective things that people are saying, listen to their descriptions of what's going on, what their career is like, etc. But also know that you are at least going in with eyes open about what this is really going to be like, and that can't be said of everyone. So many people go in with little to no idea of what the day-to-day of being a physician is like and are shocked when they find that this isn't what they thought it is.

Honestly, there are negative things about medicine. But finding a career is a lot like dating (at least, in my perspective). You're never going to find something perfect and flawless. What you do find is something, or someone, with the flaws that you can deal with, and go from there. So, you may be happy, you may be unhappy - to an extent, there's no way to know for sure right now. The best you can do is gather opinions (with a healthy grain of salt), look at the big picture, evaluate how you feel, what you want, and what you need, and go from there. That's all any of us can do. :luck: We all still love you (even if we disagree just slightly about things. Though it would be interesting to talk with you about all that stuff one-on-one sometime) either way.

Absolutely! Better take care of business and make it to the next round.

That goal they called off was BS.

And the guy running FIFA basically said, "Oh, I'm happy they screwed up the call and no one knows why. Americans are more into soccer now."

What???????

seriously?

I did find out at the University of Colorado just added 22 accredited resident positions and another 12 fellowship spots. Stoked my fire a little...

You never know, I may be a creeper.
I love that you said "creeper"!!! My Biochem lab partner used to say that. We had a "creeper" list, and 5 levels of creepers in our class. It was our little inside joke. I miss her now🙁

I'm so sorry🙁 If you want to talk about it, I would love to know why she feels betrayed, misled and trapped. The trapped can make sense in almost any career/scenario but the others are interesting. Sad, but interesting. I'd like to know what she didn't know beforehand that she has learned now.

Cougar - this is my last week of Calc 1 (final on friday! 😱). What about you?

The plastics doc txted this morning and said that the vuvuzelas have been making him dizzy.

I thought I remembered them (the vuvuzelas) from previous world cups (and regular soccer games). I don't get what the big stink is all about now...? 😕

Kill me.

I want to throat-punch the parent that sent their kid to daycare still contagious from this hellish stomach flu. Then puke on them.

It would be awesome if you had one of those snow white dresses like all the little girls wear, but in an adult size obviously. 🙂

I'm actually a little surprised I haven't seen that at disneyland before...
There used to be a website called People of the Park....bit I think Disney got wind of it and shut it down. However, this blog mentions it and it has the exact picture that I wanted to show you on it .....🙂

halfway there....4 more weeks. Bombed the last test, but it gets dropped. Any words of encouragement that I can still pull off an A would be appreciated🙂 with the dropped grade I have an A with a test, two quizzes (one of which will
be dropped) and the final to go

I think it's because EVERYONE has one and uses it ALL the time now.

It is traditionally an African thing, specifically South Africa, which is why vendors have been selling them for quite cheap to the spectators. I believe some South and Central American countries also use similar horns. However, you would never see these in Europe or from the European fans at any other world cup. European fans do orchestrated chants and songs (some which are prideful, many which are just cheeky), some continental countries wave flags, while the British Isles, Northern and Eastern Europe hold up scarves. Or whats really cool, in typical Prussian or Eastern European organization, during the national anthem hold up placards to recreate their nation's flag in the section their sitting in (or during the Germany World cup, the entire stadium).

Sadly, we're being overwhelmed by vuvuzuelas so we aren't seeing any of these cultural displays by other nations. While it is giving this world cup its own flavor, with the local culture, many people are finding the incessant B flat hum of the vuvuzuelas to be annoying, particularly when some of though go sharp and out of tune with the others.
