Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
lol, maybe we can't be roommates in med school then. whenever my friends were on diets, they'd get really bitchy/snarky at me as i ate gallons of pasta in front of them. 🙁 I'M SORRY, I LIKE BEING PUDGY AND HAPPY.

but seriously, you don't seem late-night mean! maybe you will be the exception to the rule.

maybe. otherwise, i will have to hide from you after hours. :zip: :whoa:

no omg DON'T TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME! Haha I usually take the frustration out on myself, rather on others. I'll just lie on the couch, pretending to waste away, wishing I had a hot, greasy slice of pizza in front of me. Besides, I believe more in portion control rather than complete deprivation. It's only during these beginning stages that I'm trying to stay away more 🙂

TAKE ME BACK PLEASE MEG!

can you have that though, I'm pretty sure there's gluten somewhere in all that amazingness

no gluten in the queso fundido itself, it's all meat and cheese and grease, but the tortillas...yes probsies.

she could have gluten free tortillas though 🙂

I remember not liking mushrooms for the longest time, hated them really. Then I had this wondrous mushroom swiss burger from a hole in the wall burger joint back home, and now I love mushrooms. Maybe all WYS needs is some amaziness in veggie form to get him to like it.

Mushrooms are magical. 😍😉

yeah i hated onions until i was about 10, and we had maui sweet onions in hawaii, and i learned i could get caramelized onions at in n out....game over from there. i hated mayo / whipped cream until college...i hated mustard/pickles up until a few years ago....and i hated olives up until last year.

i still hate licorice. i don't think i'll ever make myself like that.

same with me and mayo and watermelon ugh. The smell of watermelon literally makes me nauseous.

but licorice is amazeballs especially twizzlers how can you not like that? candy is universally loved.

mushrooms and onions are my favorite veggies. i can eat a whole onion chopped and caramelized, all on its own. but i prefer to mix it into yogurt then and make french onion dip 🙂

ditto with mushrooms...i'll eat them grilled on their own, but i'd like mixing it into heavy cream, adding spices and make some cream of mushroom soup.

i still hate black licorice. i don't think i'll ever make myself like that. blechhhhhhhh. i also still don't love melons (honeydew/cantaloupe) or banana, but i'll eat them because they're healthy.

ewwwwwwwww black licorice

i like twizzlers alright. red licorice is fine. it's black licorice i can't stand. goddamn anise. THAT IS THE DEVIL.

I use corn tortillas for quesadillas all the time. I like them better for that purpose than flour tortillas.

oooh, actually i think tradition is to use corn tortillas for queso fundido, so it's win win!

lol <3 hey, i'm willing to give everyone a chance. besides, we can bake jessica seinfeld's cookbook and go running / do yoga together 🙂

Technically licorice and anise are unrelated, though they do taste similar (and so does fennel).

Without anise there would be no ouzo, no absinthe, no jagermeister, no sambuca, ... 🙁

i'm so sleepy. i could totally go for some vietnamese iced coffee right now.

yeah, i know they're unrelated. fennel's alright to me since it's much milder a flavor and usually combined with a myriad of other spices/veggies that complement/hide the "licorice".

and truth be told, i have tried all of those liquors, and i do NOT like drinking any of them on their own. i had ouzo because a friend brought it back from greece, i tried absinthe at la fee vert in paris, jager...i went to college after all....and sambuca in baked goods, a statue of liberty shot and other drinks.

you cannot make me like it. i can't even make me like it. just won't. happen. ever.

Ahh I always thought there was fennel extract in licorice.

i should clarify...i will still drink them on occasion, especially when challenged...but i won't like it. 🙁

I just had a whole Arizona Tea Arnold Palmer Zero Half and Half. Delicious. My boss thought I was drinking a beer at work because the can is huge (23 fl oz)

arnold palmers are the greatest. i love them. i also like "black and blues" - guinness and blue moon... mmmmmm

Not really a fan of Jäger because of the licorice taste, but I've always wanted to try absinthe. Are you saying they taste the same?

they do. at least absinthe has the sugar cube and the fire. that is, if you get it at the right places.

also, add Colombian aguardiente to the list.

blechhhhhhhhh

i'm a "try anything once" sort of girl, but

BLECHHHHHHHHH 🙁

Black and tans (Guinness and pale ale) are also very tasty if done right. If not, they taste burnt for some reason 😕

I think it is largely environmental. Ouzo is awesome on a hot afternoon in a greek taberna, Sambuca after a hearty paella, jager is meant for ski lodges, and I think you already have the absinthe thing down.

Thinking of these drinks outside of their proper environments is kind of gross, now that I think of it.

what if i challenged you to like it?

I love all those drinks, aw jager takes me back, and both sambuca and absinthe remind me of my time in Europe

Mushrooms used to freak me out, being a fungus and all. Now I LOVE mushroom caps, especially when cooked in a bouillon based broth 😍

oooh, i like pale ales.

I knew there was a reason we didn't get along....

WELL THEN I SEE HOW IT IS....

hmph. 😡

honestly, i think I'd prefer ice cold water in the first situation, Sangria in the second, hot chocolate, or caramel apple cider in the third, and in france? omg, wine and champagne. good years of beaujolais nouveau and dom ruinart ftw.

honestly, i can think of a ton of awesome alcoholic / nonalcoholic beverages that DON'T taste like licorice, or the devil's butt. 😛

what if i challenged you to like it?

lol, no. sorry, never gonna happen. believe you me, it hasn't been for lack of trying.

also, did you ever eat celery with peanut butter? or carrots with ranch dip or hummus?

No, but I will eat peanut butter right out of the jar. I eat carrots, but no dip please.

man. i'm totally enamored with red meat, don't get me wrong, but i'm still astonished by the idea of life without veggies....
It's not so bad, trust me!

also, you eat stinky tofu....don't you eat the pickled cabbage that goes with it?
They don't call the dish stink tofu with pickled cabbage, do they?

do you get tomato sauce on your pasta? or will you pick out chunks of tomato/otherveggiesinthere?
TOMATOES ARE A FRUIT.

when you get burritos, do you not like any veggies in there? no grilled peppers or onions? what about guacamole and salsa???
Nope, nope, and...... nope.

AND WHAT ABOUT SPINACH AND ARTICHOKE DIP???
Spinach is fine (I want to be like Popeye!). Artichoke..... never had it, but I probably won't eat it.

CREAM OF MUSHROOM SOUP?
As long as I don't eat any mushroom pieces.

AUGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
