oh hey bookfreak, trying to sneak your way to the top I see. Well it aint happening on my watch
Can't fault me for trying. 😀
How was your day?
I wonder if all your posts are in this thread? Haven't seen you post anywhere else much.
Real busy, volunteering in the morning, work in the afternoon, AMCAS in the evening. Thought things would get easier after the MCAT, I thought wrong.
What about you?
I took a long hiatus from the site when I first joined because it was incredibly negative and I wasn't really ready to apply yet. Came back because there was some good here and I was also really ready to start the whole app process too.
I've got some stuff dispersed throughout the board but I would think the majority is in 2016.
I had volunteering and AMCAS today as well. Still have some big chunks to finish up (Work/Activities & PS = 🙁), but I'm sooooo tired.
Agreed with the bolded. I thought once my exams were over, my life would be much simpler....nope, especially with (self-imposed) pressure to finish up my primary and submit it.
i just checked, I have like 277 posts in this thread (counting this one) so yep, most of my posts are in this thread
Wait...prewriting or you already got them?
Dang, I thought secondaries weren't usually going out until July!
How do you check how many posts you have in this thread?
I'm stuck on the same two things as well, which sucks because my letter writers want the personal statement as a part of their writing process. I don't want to give them a sloppy PS, but I really need to get them started with writing ASAP.
So stressful
hover your mouse over the red paper icon with an arrow over it in the thread topics page (to show that you've posted in the thread) it should tell you the number of posts you've made in that thread.
Yea a few sent them really early. I got three on the first day! I didn't pre-write specifically, but I knew that many asked "Is there anything else you'd like us to know?", so I wrote that one. I explained why my GPA dropped the year I transferred, which I think is my obvious weak point application-wise. I got an e-mail from Mayo asking for money as well, but they do a screen to ask for LORs I believe. They just want $100 for walkin'-around money.
That sucks big time. Do you have an autobiography or something that you can give them instead of your PS? Do they want to incorporate some aspect of your PS into their letters or do they just want to get a sense of why you want to do medicine?
Now, I want to hit 1,000 posts in this thread.
wait, so for Mayo, you send the money in for the primary, money in their email (which I presume might constitute a secondary) and then more money after you're screened for LOR? I don't plan on applying to Mayo (I'd have no chance) but could you clarify if I'm wrong.
an autobiography of myself would be the most boring thing known to mankind, so I'm glad that I don't have one. 🙄 I have a very rough draft from like 2 years ago that was only seen by one person and hasn't had any edits done to it other than ones by that person. Its terrible though and I don't want to give it to them.

then spam my friend, spam like the wind!
I don't even know man. One should be guaranteed acceptance if they figure it all out before it happens. I think they want the money to initiate the screen, then if you pass they request LORs, then if you pass they interview you via phone or in person. I don't know...In any case, here's the email:
Dear (Vandypremed 😉),
Mayo Medical School has recently received your application from the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). Thank you for choosing Mayo as one of the schools you are interested in attending. We sincerely appreciate your application and your interest in our school.
A non-refundable $100 fee payable in United States currency is required to initiate the review process of your AMCAS application. Electronic payment should be submitted at http://www.mayo.edu/mms/epayments.html.
*Snip snip*
Thank you again for your interest in Mayo Medical School and best wishes as you pursue your interest in medicine.
Sincerely,
Susan A. Romanski, M.D.
Assistant Dean for Admissions
Mayo Medical School
Makes sense. Are you just focusing on your PS for now?
They want 3 payments?!?!
AMCAS, Post-AMCAS, and Secondary? 😱
Ridiculous.
Lol no. I think it's just AMCAS and the $100.
I would hope so, I guess I got a bit confused considering Mayo's unique application process.
yeah, I've got tons of resumes in my comp to help with my ECs and adding why they're the most memorable shouldnt be too hard. Its not having them be repeated in the PS that will be the tough part. Which is why the PS is so difficult for me. Not to mention that my formal essay writing skills have declined since my last writing class 3 years ago
Lol no. I think it's just AMCAS and the $100.
